"Five Debuts In Search Of An Asylum II: Electric Boogaloo" PPV
BEFORE:
"You know," says Claire with a shake of the head, "I really DON'T know why it's taken so long for me to get a shot in the big leagues. But, I've got one now, and, I'm going to show everyone what they were missing."
"She might play a queen on TV," says Ariel with a smirk, "But, she's about to find out that, around here, she's not queen of anything."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's..
McCarthy: "That's pretty GOOD! I LIKE that song! What IS it?"
Tess: "I'm surprised you don't KNOW that one, Mac. It's from YOUR era..."
Cassie: "Right. That came out when you were in high school..."
O'Dell: "The song in question is, 'She Didn't Say Nothin' At All' by Johnnie Ray..."
McCarthy: "THAT SONG CAME OUT IN 1951! I WAS NOT IN HIGH SCHOOOOOLLLLLLL!"
Tess: "NOW she looks at the prep material."
O'Dell (sighing): "And, that tune, which was on the soundtrack to 'The Crown' is the theme music for the young lady making her way to the ring right now, the star of that series, Queen Claire Foy!"
Cassie: "Foy making her FCBA and big league debut tonight, as she's also never had a fight at home in the BBU."
O'Dell: "Claire into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a berry red number and a body that's clearly been prepared for this one. And, that's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' pounding through the arena, and that can only mean that the singer you hear covering that tune, Ariel 'Dangerous Curves' Winter is on her way to the ring."
Cassie: "Winter has done very well since signing on to Front Street, but, as we've said, Uncle Wiz's flyweight division has gotten pretty crowded lately, and she needs to keep performing well to keep up."
O'Dell: "Ariel into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that white number that shows off the dangerous curves very, very well. Ladies about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Ariel. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Again, an opponent with no FCBA wins. Winter."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "First begins with Winter looking to come forward. Ariel, of course, likes to fight inside. Claire wants some space, wants to box, moving the feet well, giving some ground, picking off Winter with a nice combination, then circling away. Ariel resolute, determined to close and get physical...."
McCarthy: "And gets picked off AGAIN with a nice combination. Foy showing some good hands right now."
O'Dell: "Winter stopped cold yet again by Claire. Foy's got the range early, and she's forcing the younger woman to eat plenty of solid shot as she tries to get inside. Ariel still coming forward, but less aggressively. Good combination from Foy yet again! That one snapped Winter's head back..."
Tess: "This is not a good start for Ariel at all."
O'Dell: "And it's getting WORSE! Foy backs the younger woman up with a three-punch combination and forces her to cover up. Claire feeling it now, stepping to and backing Ariel up again! Ten seconds to go in the first. One more flurry from Claire and there's the bell. Foy wide in the first."
Cassie: "Definitely did not see that coming..."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with Winter aggressive again, walking forward, looking to close and bang and GETTING DROPPED! Foy a right hand and Winter dropped to her knees! This place is going crazy as Claire bounces to a neutral corner all smiles and the referee begins the count..."
Cassie: "Wow. Just. Wow."
O'Dell: "Ariel looking up at the referee as the count reaches three. Four. Five. Six. Winter to her feet at seven. She'll take the mandatory and the ref will waive Claire forward. Foy now looking to finish. She's stepping into punches, forcing the younger woman back into the ropes and having at her..."
Tess: "Ariel has got to get busy. She's just taking and the referee isn't going to watch much more of this..."
O'Dell: "Foy throwing punches in bunches as Winter covers up along the ropes. Front Streeter jabbing back in spots now, but mostly trying to run clock and see if she can get this nightmare to end. Twenty seconds to go. GOOD right hand from Claire. Ariel throws a flurry of her own but mostly misses and there's the bell. Foy's up big, 20-17."
McCarthy: "And yet another of Weirdo's hot flyweight prospects may be going the way of Spears, Seyfried, and all the rest."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third begins with Foy back to boxing. She's using the left jab and the feet to create and maintain distance, make Winter work to close and bang. Ariel working forward, though, angling more now, moving the head more. This is much sounder stuff than what we saw in the first round, ladies..."
Cassie: "Definitely. Winter wasn't showing much respect to Foy early, just trying to walk right through her. She's maybe learned a lesson now."
O'Dell: "And, Foy's still teaching. Claire getting that left hand home, and, when she does, she follows on with hard rights, slowing Winter. Ariel getting to her spots some now, though, and landing some good shots of her own to both the head and body. Claire keeping those opportunities short, though...
McCarthy: "She is, and she's doing it with good footwork. She's making Winter chase."
O'Dell: "Thirty seconds to go in the third. First two-way round we've seen tonight. Foy a good combination. Winter steps to and hooks the body. Foy quickly circles away. Five seconds left. Sharp exchange there, and there's the bell. Closest round of the fight by far, but Foy claims it again."
Tess: "And, Winter's in a DEEP hole, 30-26."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins on the same terms as the third ended, with Foy looking to box at range and Winter looking to close and bang. Again, both ladies getting some, but not all of what they want. Claire able to score as Winter works forward, but Ariel doing a better job of avoiding those punches and getting past them..."
Tess: "And, when she does, she's getting VERY busy, mostly to the body."
O'Dell: "Indeed, she is. Again, Foy working to keep the inside exchanges short, keeping the feet moving, circling away. Winter wants to cut ring now, pen Claire up, but the Brit mostly avoiding that, staying in open ocean. Good right hook to the body by Winter. No question Claire felt that one."
Cassie: "And, these are going to start adding up. But, Claire's showing she's a good boxer and she's built a nice lead, so..."
O'Dell: "Exactly. The question is, are they going to add up quickly enough. We're into the final twenty seconds of round number four. Winter again closing and working some body, lands a nice uppercut that backs Claire up before Foy circles away to open canvas. Five seconds left, and there's the bell. Close. Ariel."
McCarthy: "But, Foy still up big, 39-36."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Heading for the halfway point in what's been an excellent FCBA debut for Claire Foy. Brit beauty working that left jab, moving the feet, making the younger woman work hard to close. Ariel angling, using excellent footwork, moving the head, getting past the defenses to bang some body."
McCarthy: "Really a classic contrast in styles here. Usually, these kinds of fights are all about who can enforce terms. But that hasn't been the case so far in this one."
O'Dell: "Not to this point, because of Foy's strong early start. And she's still got a nice cushion, leaving Winter very little room for error on the cards. Good combination, Claire. Ariel slips forward and tenderizes more body. No question Foy is feeling this leather to the midsection and ribs, but, she's taking it well."
Tess: "Definitely is. You have to be impressed with Foy so far. It's a shame it's taken her to age 33 to break into the bigs. She's got some ability."
O'Dell: "Down the stretch in another good, two-way round. Winter cutting the ring and getting off with some solid shot now. Foy ties her up, slips away. Ariel right back after the older woman, but Claire maintaining distance with the jab and the feet right to the bell. Another close round to Winter."
Cassie: "And, she's gotten back in the fight, though she's still down 48-46 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Second half begins and the terms are clearly set. Both women want what they want, and that isn't going to change. Claire jabbing, circling, making Ariel turn and work hard not only to penetrate but to square. Winter slipping past, thumping some body and ROCKING FOY WITH A RIGHT HOOK..."
Tess: "NASTY shot!"
O'Dell: "Claire wobbles and covers up and now Winter going all in. She's winging away, backing Foy up, battering the Brit into the ropes. Claire with the guard high, rolling with, blocking punches, putting the body on sale, but Winter not buying. Younger woman going for the kill now..."
Cassie: "Ought to go body, try to bring that guard down."
O'Dell: "Might not be a bad idea, but it's not in the plans. Thirty seconds left. Ariel lands a hard right. Claire jabbing back in spots, hanging on, looks to be getting some leg back as she's getting more active late in the round. Five seconds left. NICE exchange at the bell. Winter, wide."
McCarthy: "But, not only is Foy still standing, she's still leading 57-56."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Foy seems to have shaken most of the damage as we start the seventh. She's moving the feet pretty well, working the jab, again making it hard for the younger woman to square her up or close distance. If anybody had any doubts about whether Claire Foy could box, those have been answered, Mac..."
McCarthy: "No doubt about it. She's got good hands, good feet, and she knows what she's doing."
O'Dell: "Good combination by Claire, slows Winter as she steps to. Ariel immediately going body when she gets into the phone booth. Foy ties her up, slips away before too much damage can be done. Claire circling, staying in open canvas, not allowing the younger woman to cut the ring."
Cassie: "Ariel sounder now, though. She was sloppy early. Too aggressive. Now, she's moving the head and feet, being patient."
O'Dell: "Final twenty seconds of another two-way round. Foy a nice combination again. Winter slowed, but not stopped. Ariel stepping to, banging body again and going back upstairs. Claire ties up, circles away. Ariel forward again and there's the bell. Close one, but Claire's going to claim the points."
Tess: "And, Foy's up two, 67-65, with just three to go."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Ariel showing a bit more aggression early. Remaining sound, but she's showing a bit more urgency here. She's been told she's still behind and needs to get moving, and that's what she's trying to do. Foy knows exactly what situation she's in. Get a round out of these next three and stay on her feet and she's going to have a win in her first FCBA fight..."
McCarthy: "Exactly. Just have to be smart here."
O'Dell: "Winter steps to, works that midsection. Claire tying her up, circling away. Ariel right back forward, takes a nice right hand, but keeps coming. Right back to the midsection. Foy again tying up and GOING DOWN! DOWN GOES CLAIRE AFTER A RIGHT UPPERCUT FROM WINTER!"
Cassie: "Wow, did she time that. Foy tied up and Ariel found a little opening and just SLAMMED that glove through it."
O'Dell: "And she dropped a stunned Claire to her back. Winter to a neutral corner. Foy staring up at the referee, head lolling from side to side. Count at three, four, five. Claire trying to shake the cobwebs. Six. Seven. Eight. Not going to happen. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Claire still down on her back and it's OVER and your winner by KO8 is Ariel 'Dangerous Curves' Winter!"
Tess: "Not the greatest performance from Ariel, but she'll take the win."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Ariel Winter, and, Ariel, not a good start..."
Ariel (shaking her head): "I got sloppy and she made me pay for it. I was too aggressive early. Didn't show her enough respect. And, I got myself in a hole."
Tess: "But, you climbed out of it."
Ariel (nodding): "I did. But, I've got to be better than I was those first few rounds. Take nothing from her. She can box and she's not easy to handle. But, I needed to be better and smarter. And, next time, I will be." |
