Kaya Scodelario vs. Elodie Frege
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

Kaya's, no doubt, a girl on the rise these days, having translated success in the BBU to even more in the FCBA, claiming victories over girls like Fonseca, Morrison, Vandervoort and Glau. So, it's no surprise Ms. Scodelario is rolling into her fight with Frenchwoman Elodie Frege expecting to come out a winner, but, the level of that confidence has to raise an eyebrow or three. "She's not in my league," says Kaya contemptuously. "I'm not sure what her management was thinking putting her in a ring with me, but there's no doubt how this is going to come out. I'll just decide how many rounds I want to get in and then finish her."

Frege more than a little taken aback by the attitude of her younger foe. Elodie's a veteran who's beaten girls like Cruz and Alba and even Hall of Famer Pressly. "If she thinks I can not beat her," says Frege with more than a little fire in her eyes, "then she is in for a big surprise tonight. A big surprise."

ROUND ONE:

Kaya moving in the first. She has excellent feet and she's using them. First surprise of the night comes with the tactics Elodie uses. The Frenchwoman is a slick boxer, who often likes to go to the pocket, but, not in the first. She's moving with, boxing with, and holding her own pretty well with a woman a decade her junior. Yes, Kaya's quicker, and she's sometimes getting off first, but Frege, as pocket fighters are, is a master of the counter, and she's using those to score plenty of solid shot against the brunette. Scodelario taken aback both by Frege's tactics and her success using them. The Brit adjusts pretty quickly, though, and slowly begins to gain an edge in the round. Frege's still scoring, but Scodelario's getting more done, doubling and tripling up on her jab to keep the French beauty on the defensive. At the bell, it's close, but it's Kaya with the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Kaya looking for another round of movement, but Elodie not biting. Now the Frenchwoman goes to the pocket and sets up her defenses. Scodelario clearly ready for this, immediately begins the siege. She's obviously been training against this technique a good deal. And, just as obviously, that training isn't doing much good. The problem isn't that the Brit isn't attacking the French defenses properly, it's just that Frege is too good and too slick for that to matter. She's slipping and dipping and blocking and taking punches on her shoulders, all while issuing stinging rejoinders that often snap back the head of the younger fighter and always add points to Elodie's side of the ledger. And, it just gets worse as the round goes on. Scodelario gets frustrated and sloppy and Frege makes her pay again and again in the counter. At the bell, it's Elodie wide and we're even at 19.

ROUND THREE:

More pocket action from Elodie, and, again, it's effective. Kaya just can't find any weaknesses in the French defenses. She's more reticent in her attacks this round, and that means fewer opportunities for Frege to counter...but, it also means fewer opportunities for Kaya to score. The Brit is spending too much time feinting and bouncing around trying to create openings and not nearly enough time actually punching. Corner's screaming "Get off! Punch, Kaya! Let your hands go!", but Scodelario's gun shy, and Elodie's again controlling the round, filling every opening with accurate leather, touching up the younger woman and pulling out to a solid lead on the cards. Down the stretch, Kaya does get busier, but it doesn't matter. She can't solve the puzzle and it's Elodie who claims her second round in a row and now leads 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Scodelario gets a stern talking to in the corner. "We WORKED on this! Get AFTER her ass!" Kaya gets after her ass. She's aggressively after Elodie from the opening bell, laying down tons of suppressive fire aimed at the French woman's defenses. Idea is to stay on offense, keep Frege from countering due to the sheer volume of leather coming at her. It takes a very, very high work rate, but Scodelario's up to it. She's a buzz saw of flying leather, flurry after flurry after flurry, and, yes, there are opportunities for Elodie to counter, and, when they come, the Frenchwoman does so effectively. But, they are too few and too far between. Kaya's taken control of this thing, and she's in command from the first second of the round to the last. When the bell finally rings, it's Scodelario wide and we're even at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Kaya continuing with the suppression. Question now is, how long can she keep it up? Sure, she's only 25 and isn't going to wear down like an older fighter might, but the kind of work rate she's involved in is arm-killing stuff. Eventually, she's going to slow down, and, what then? Thing is, Kaya has no intention of finding out. About a minute in, Scodelario lands a three-punch combination that ends with a vicious short right hook and FREGE IS HURT! Elodie wobbles, nearly goes down and Kaya goes nuclear! Scodelario empties the magazines firing everything she has at Elodie and DOWN GOES FREGE! It's no one punch that does the damage but the cumulative effort of a dozen hard shots that sends Elodie slumping to her right side to crash, parallel to the ropes. Kaya quickly to a neutral corner, watching and waiting, chest heaving. Elodie rolls to her belly, pushes to her hands and knees and then SLUMPS BACK TO THE CANVAS! It's OVER! That quickly, it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 in BRUTAL fashion is Kaya Scodelario!

AFTER:

Scodelario all "I told you so" in the aftermath. "I knew what she'd do," says the brunette beauty with a nod. "She was going to try all that pocket nonsense, try to bait me, but I wasn't going for it. I knew how to get her and, like I said, all I did was decide when I'd had enough work and then finished her. She's not in my league, and, that's not a knock on her. It's just that I'm as good as any bantamweight on the planet. Don't believe me? Just keep watching."
