BEFORE:
"No," says Charli with a shake of the head, "I haven't won in the FCBA yet, but, I've shown I can fight. And, no disrespect, but, every girl I've been in with in my career is better than SHE is..."
"I absolutely respect her as an opponent," says Hunter with a nod. "After all, she has more FCBA experience than I do. But, that's not going to stop me from beating her."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Boom, Clap' you hear thundering through the arena, and that can only mean that the lovely Charli XCX is headed down to ringside!"
Tess: "Charli's been to Asylum before. In fact, she made her debut here in 2015 against the since-departed Leven Rambin..."
McCarthy: "Just one of MANY Dancing Hookers we won't MISS around here!"
O'Dell: "Charli down the aisle and into the ring. Helped off with the robe to reveal that tiger print bikini we've seen before, and that's 'Shake It Out' by Florence and the Machine, fronted by another British singer, Florence Welch..."
McCarthy: "Is this 'HBO's Boxing At The Asylum' or 'American Bandstand'?"
Cassie: "Well, 'Bandstand' DID originate here in Philadelphia..."
McCarthy: "Shut UP, Scabbo!"
O'Dell: "A-HEM! And, coming down the aisle to that song is 'The Ventura County Volcano', Hunter King!"
McCarthy: "Which used to be the stupidest among a bunch of stupid nicknames in this stable...until McKinney and 'Agent 00DDD'!"
O'Dell: "King into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that aqua bikini she fills out awfully well, and we're about ready for some picks. Tess favors King. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Typical Dancing Hooker opponent. NO FCBA wins. King."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "It's unanimous. Let's see if the ladies are right. Charli getting to work with the legs early. No surprise, as this girl is athletic and can definitely move. King staying at range. She has some reach here and wants to use it. The goal for the blonde looks to be to get the jab on..."
McCarthy: "That's exactly what a lot of girls used to try to do against ME, because I was ALWAYS the quicker and more athletic fighter. They needed to try to slow me down. But, they always failed!"
Tess: "BFF, is it too early to mention how many times Neve Campbell succeeded?"
Cassie: "Much..."
McCarthy: "I. WAS. ROBBED!"
O'Dell (sighing): "King working the left hand. Charli hard to find right now, jabbing, circling, making Hunter work the feet. King can move, too, though. She's trying to match footwork and get square. Not having a ton of success, but, when she can, when she can get the left on, she follows with hard rights..."
Cassie: "Hunter very, very solid in all aspects of her game for a fighter with as little FCBA experience as she has."
McCarthy: "Kid must be getting it by osmosis, because she CAN'T be learning anything at Front Street."
O'Dell: "Final seconds of the round. Charli circling wide, jabbing, slipping into range and landing a combination. Hunter locating with the left, looking to drop in right hands. Five seconds to go. Good flurry from the brunette and there's the bell. Close round goes to Charli, who takes the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Charli back on the move to start the second, but King's coming forward now. Blonde wants to cut the angles and the ring down and bring the singer to battle. Brunette slipping away, back to open ocean, but Hunter right back forward and HURTS HER WITH A RIGHT HOOK!"
Cassie: "Charli did VERY well to stay on her feet. That was a NASTY punch!"
O'Dell: "And King all in on the follow up. She drives the Brit immediately to the ropes and gets to work, banging both head and body. Charli keeping the gloves high, going ahead and putting the body on sale. Hunter buying some, but not in bulk. She's looking for the knockout blow..."
McCarthy: "Give the Limey credit, she's rolling with, jabbing back, knows what she's doing defensively."
O'Dell: "And, she needs all of that knowledge, because King is absolutely WINGING away right now, stepping in to everything, knows one more good shot could do it. She's out of time, though. Just five seconds to go. Good left hook from Hunter, but there's the bell. King wide, but the brunette survives."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Hunter looking to pressure to start the third. Charli seems to have some leg back, though not all. King able to corral her, but the brunette ties up, hooks body with the free hand. Hunter shoving off, but Charli ties up again, running a little clock here. Blonde shoves off and the brunette slips away to open canvas."
McCarthy: "That's pretty slick stuff from Charli. This kid is WAAAAYYYY smarter than the Dancing Hooker, not that it takes much."
Tess: "Just got a Tweet from an alert listener who points out that Mac actually used the word 'osmosis' in the first round and we let that pass..."
Cassie: "That, dear viewer, is what's called 'stunned silence'..."
McCarthy: "Shut UP, Scabbo!"
O'Dell: "Half way through the third, and Charli's defensive tactics have slowed down Hunter. King still holding her own in the round, but she's been unable to clean up or even follow up on last round's big punch. Charli again tying up the blonde, then, when Hunter wrestles free, slipping away to circle."
Tess: "Brunette's legs looking to be all the way back now, and, I checked, there IS a bingo square that says 'Mac Uses A Scientific Term Correctly'. If you have it, mark your card..."
Cassie: "I'm willing to bet the my pay check for this evening that said square has NEVER been marked before..."
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, SCABBO!"
O'Dell: "We're going for the record. And, we're also going for the end of round three. It's been a nip-and-tuck affair, with the Brit's defensive tactics frustrating the America's attempts at offensive. Ten seconds to go. SHARP exchange there, best of the round. And, there's the bell. Close. Charli."
Cassie: "And, the brunette's back up by one, 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins with Charli working the legs again. Hunter moving her feet well, cutting the ring, bringing the brunette to battle and then getting off quickly. Brit tying up, slipping away, keeping the exchanges short. King right back after her, banging body now, then working her way upstairs."
McCarthy: "Lot of aggression from the blonde right now, and that comes from the most aggressive blonde who's ever been in an FCBA ring!"
Cassie: "I threw up in my mouth a little..."
O'Dell: "King getting very, very physical now. She's backing up Charli, thumping away with both hands, landing a HARD right hand there that got the brunette's attention. Singer again tying up, but King punching free and backing her up with another hard right hand! Hunter loading up at the moment, ladies..."
Tess: "And you can tell this girl's been working with Neve Campbell when you watch that sustained body attack."
McCarthy: "Now I threw up in MY mouth a little..."
O'Dell: "King backing Charli up again with a hard flurry. Brunette covering up and Hunter going body again, banging away the ribs and midsection. Charli tying up, but Hunter shoves her off and digs some more body. Ten seconds to go in the round. BIG right hand from King and there's the bell! Hunter wide in the fourth."
Cassie: "And, we're all even at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "King looking to press the action as we start the fifth. She's stepping to, backing Charli up with those heavy hands. Brunette again wants to fight a war of movement, but Hunter not giving her any room to move. She's right in the Brit's grill, thumping body and then working her way up top..."
Cassie: "Just a little different strategy from King right now. She's a girl who can fight well at range, but this is Neve Campbell/Allison Mack stuff right here..."
McCarthy: "Now, I'm going to blow chunks all over the table..."
O'Dell: "King just working the brunette over right now, body, head, body. Charli trying to bang back, give as good as she gets, but that's not happening. Hunter's having much the better of things and THERE'S A RIGHT HAND, KING! A short right hook and Charli's HURT! Blonde letting the hands go now and DOWN GOES THE BRUNETTE!"
Tess: "Another right hook, and that might have done it!"
O'Dell: "It just might have. Landed right on the button! Hunter to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Charli curled up on her right side, not moving at all. Six. Seven. Brunette looking to be both down and out. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is 'The Ventura County Volcano', Hunter King!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Hunter King, and, Hunter, a lot of aggression from you in those last couple of rounds."
Hunter: "Well, she's pretty slick in there and pretty tough, too. My corner told me to get after her, get physical, so, that's what I did, and it worked out pretty well."
Tess: "Management has to be pretty pleased with how things are going for you so far, and I'm imagining you are, too..."
Hunter (nodding): "I'm learning every day and every time I step in the ring. That's what this is about now. Learning and getting better, and, as long as I'm doing that, I'm happy."
