BEFORE:
"It's true that I haven't won an FCBA fight," says Jessie with a shake of the head, "But, after all, the only one I've had was against Lawley, and it's not like many people have beaten HER..."
"Jessie's got size," says Antje, "She can hit. She's athletic. She's got what it takes to compete in this division. What she hasn't got is what it takes to beat ME."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Bang Bang', and coming down to the ring is the singer of that little ditty, the lovely Jessie J!"
McCarthy: "What kind of a last name is 'J'? You know, it's bad enough Weirdo keeps bringing in these tomato cans without FCBA wins...he could at least make sure they have actual NAMES. What's next, Mary M? Tracy T? Gunilla G?"
Tess: "J-Mac..."
McCarthy: "That's just a nickname and you KNOW it! I HAVE a full name and it's Jennifer Ann McCarthy!"
Cassie: "So does Jessie and it's Jessica Ellen Cornish."
McCarthy: "Jessica Ell...WHERE DOES THE OTHER 'J' COME FROM? That's just STUPID!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Jessie into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a black number that shows she's in great shape for this one, and that's 'Heads Will Roll' by the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, and here comes 'The Scandinavian Stunner', Antje Utgaard!"
Tess: "And, while the internal competition has gotten lighter for most members of Front Street since the reorg, the same can not be said of Utgaard. Antje had the division to herself back in April, and now she's got Charlotte McKinney to compete with."
O'Dell: "Antje into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that stars and stripes bikini and the crowd is absolutely loving it..."
McCarthy: "Again, not bad, but not PLAYMATE material..."
Cassie: "Get those cataracts checked..."
McCarthy: "Cata...YOU LITTLE..."
O'Dell: "Aaaaaannnndddddd the ladies are about ready, so let's get some picks. Tess likes Antje. Mac?"
McCarthy: "NO FCBA wins. Utgaard."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, we're underway. Both girls plenty rangy, so it's no surprise that they want to work at range early. Antje the taller of the two and she has the reach advantage, but Jessie using some angles and footwork to get to where she can land her own jabs, and we're getting that ranged boxing you so often see at the higher weights."
McCarthy: "And, this is one of the MANY ways to beat a Dancing Hooker. If you can make them fight technically, you can beat them, because they are ALL technically deficient."
O'Dell: "Ladies getting more comfortable as the round goes on, starting to drop in hard right hands after the initial range finding. Not a lot of girls who can hit with Utgaard, who's one of the biggest women in the FCBA, but Jessie holding her own pretty well. The Brit banging back with gusto."
Tess: "I doubt we're going to see a firefight this early, but, one between two girls who can hit like this might be short, but it would be a lot of fun."
O'Dell: "Not developing yet, though, as the two ladies are more about some feeling out and getting into rhythm. We're headed down the stretch in the first without a lot in it. Jessie doubling up the jab, dipping the head, showing good movement to stay off square. Five seconds left and there's the bell. Close. Jessie, who leads 10-9 after one."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Right back to range in round two. Again, Jessie doing a good job of angling to offset the reach advantage the younger woman has. Ladies jabbing and following on equal terms at the moment. Both using the feet, and the result is a slow circle as the two welters look to hit their spots and then their respective opponents."
Tess: "Good stuff from both fighters right now. Both are showing they're among the welters who can box."
O'Dell: "And both showing some good defensive abilities, too. Heads and hands moving along with the feet. Utgaard landing a solid combination there, best of the fight and Jessie fires right back with one of her own. Brit not at all intimidated by the bigger American, is she, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Doesn't look that way, and that's important, because if you go in there afraid of somebody's power, you're toast."
O'Dell: "Down the stretch in the second. It's another good, two-way round that's seen both fighters land their share of solid shot and nobody get hurt. Ten seconds to go in this one. Another good one-two from Antje and there's the bell. Second in the books. Close again, but Utgaard this time."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "A little change here from the Front Streeter as we start the third. Antje now coming forward behind that jab, looking to grab canvas from Jessie. Brit trying to hold ground, but she's being backed up all of a sudden. Singer firing back hard, trying to stem the advance, but not having any success."
Cassie: "And there's that size and power we talked about. Utgaard starting to walk Jessie down right now, and that's not easy to do at this weight."
O'Dell: "It isn't, but she's doing it. Key, I think, is that heavy Front Street jab that's snapping back Jessie's head at times. That's getting her on her back foot and Utgaard can then back her up with those big follow on rights. Singer actually covering up now. Not hurt, but she's taking a TON of fire..."
McCarthy: "Got to punch for respect here. Keep this girl off."
O'Dell: "And, while that's what the Brit is TRYING to do, she's not having any success. Instead, it's Utgaard who's taken complete command of this thing. She's got Jessie up against the ropes and she is LETTING HER HAVE IT with both barrels. Fifteen seconds to go in the round. Antje just REEFING punches at the older woman right to the bell. Utgaard wide."
Tess: "And, it's 29-28 after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins with Utgaard again on the attack. Antje walking down Jessie J right now, backing her up with hard shots with both hands. Jessie forced to play defense, keep the guard up, try to counter in spots, as Utgaard fights lead and takes control of the bout."
McCarthy: "Jessie's got to set her feet and CLOCK this girl a couple of times. She can't keep getting bullied around the ring."
O'Dell: "Brit definitely trying to slow Antje down, but Utgaard not having it. She's got the aggression dialed up to '11' at the moment, and it's working for her, as she brings all that size and power to bear on a girl who has quite a bit of it herself. GOOD right hand counter Jessie and DOWN SHE GOES!"
Cassie (singing): "Turn out the liiiigggghhhhhttttssss, the party's ooooooverrrrrrr...."
O'Dell: "Jessie ragdolled to her back by a BOOMING right hand from Antje! Utgaard to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Jessie not moving at all, just lying on her back, arms above her head. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And, your winner by KO4 in frightening one-punch fashion is 'The Scandinavian Stunner', Antje Utgaard!"
Tess: "I'm not sure anybody in the FCBA was getting up from that one. In fact, I'm pretty sure no one would have."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Antje Utgaard, and, Antje, it was a fight for a couple of rounds there, then you started imposing will."
Antje: "She's a big, strong girl, Tess, and she can hit. At some point, I decided it was time to see if I couldn't get after her and get her out of there before she got me. And, that's what I did."
Tess: "You really took control in the third. Didn't look like she could handle your power."
Antje: "Well, I'm as big and strong and hit as hard as anyone in the FCBA. Anyone. As you just saw."
