Geri Halliwell (England) vs Lacey Chabert (USA) (Lioness Club vs Mirage Boxing) (16-11-1, 12 KO vs 41-31-3, 34 KO) Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: The Lioness Club front office has made it official, this will be Geri Halliwell's farewell FCBA bout. The former Spice Girls lead vocallist turns 45 in a little over week's time and that's a very advanced age for a fighter competing in the flyweight division. Her opponent - perhaps not surprisingly - is also a veteran in her own right but still full ten years her junior, Lacey Chabert. The buxom brunette has become a popular target among the Lioness management lately, since she last stepped into the ring against another British singer, the notorious Cheryl Cole who knocked her out in six rounds last time out. Perhaps Kate Garraway and her team hope for a suitable repeat of that performance on Geri's farewell night?
Geri Halliwell wears her trademark Union Jack bikini and red gloves. Long strawberry blonde hair loose, tucked behind the ears. Lacey Chabert wears a black bikini set with white trim and white gloves. Long black hair tied in a loose bun at the back of her head. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1: This is a classic flyweight bash from the word go as these two veterans give each other no quarter and dish out heavy punishment during a frantic opening period. Actually Geri manages to land her shots a little better and snaps the brunette's head back repeatedly before stacking her efforts down along the waistline. Chabert jabs confidently in the phone booth-like working space but gets caught out several times by the redhead's attacks and wobbles back onto her heels just as Halliwell blasts her across the lips and traps along the ropes in the final minute. Lacey barks in anger over this but fails to match the English veteran's intensity and gets nailed on the nose twice again as Geri runs away with the opener in a very promising fashion!
Round 2: Tractorpull's Tess Valmore has said that Lacey should retire from the FCBA in case she loses against the Hertfordshire cougar tonight and the anger over losing that opening round allows the brunette to channel the red mist mode into something positive. She tackles the redhead from the onset of the second and pummels through the English guard as Geri lacks strenght to deal with the up-tempo swarming at this stage of her career. She refuses to yield real estate at first but after getting knocked back through a double jabbing combo on the lips, she dances to the left and tries to catch Chabert on the counter. That doesn't work as the actress keeps her well within her range and hassles around the ring until she lands a nasty hook on the left eye and dumps Halliwell butt-in-ropes. She connects with the singer's boobs during another bumper car exchange and lands a vicious uppercut on the jaw right at the bell to pull even on the cards.
Round 3: Another see-saw display in the ring as both women lock the proverbial horns in the center of the ring but this time it's Geri's jug muggin' tactics that prevail as she nails the brunette with an uppercut drive and lifts 'em boobs against the slumping chin. Lacey just didn't see it coming and then slips at a crucial moment so that she bangs her chin against the redhead's shoulder. Halliwell just digs her mitts into the brunette's cleavage and wraps her into a phone booth-like jabbing drive that dumps Chabert onto the ropes and allows the singer to dominate the vicious close range slugging that follows. Both women groan in their efforts but Lacey adds that painful shriek to it and disappears behind a high earmuff come the final minute when she's unable to fight through the English heat. Thankfully for her, Geri runs out of steam to finish her off or knock her down... a notorious sign of times at the brink of turning 45 next week!
Round 4: Yup, Geri needs a little extra breather after just three rounds and that's despite the regular break to boost her chances. She fumbles the golden opportunity to really knock the wind out of Chabert and pays a heavy price as the dark-haired foe outworks her in another close range tussle and begins to wreck havoc inside her cleavage as well. Halliwell's rack travels a little too far on a couple of occasions and she only moans herself through this painful experience while losing all the momentum that allows Lacey to stick plenty of juice upstairs. Geri's head rocks back forth as she struggles to keep her balance and sends the counter punches sky high while the American leans on the front (left) leg and dishes out the punishment upstairs. She pounds a helpless singer back to the turnbuckle and enjoys thumping her up the middle until the bell halts her charge. Ugh! Geri slumps on the ropes and she's barely capable of lasting the odd five rounds here now. Not what you'd expect from someone of her pedigree but then again, you just can't fool Father Time anymore.
Round 5: Geri is dead on her legs after getting knocked around in the fourth and Lacey has no mercy here tonight as she chases that important victory. She wraps the aching singer in another bumper car boxing but Halliwell's mitts stay down by her breasts and she just gets hammered into stupor and trips back to the ropes when the brunette connects with a solid left/right combo. Another left hook finds the jaw and Geri bellows out into spasms... this is one bridge too far territory now but Lioness coach Claudia Schiffer refuses to throw in the towel... so Lacey duly takes care of business and lands another left on the mouth, another right on the eye... another left on the temple... AND THAT SENDS THE SINGER CRASHING DOWN IN A HEAP... Halliwell is almost knocked out of her senses and there's just no way she can mount a comeback here anymore. The farewell bout ends in a terrible fashion but at least it happened in front of a packed PPV audience and not in some shopping mall parking lot over in Nebraska! KO5 Lacey Chabert!!!
AFTER: Lacey keeps it strictly business and vows to keep her career going regardless of the critics: "I'm gonna decide when I retire, not some goofy journalist down in Nashville!" However the crowd's focus soon turns to the once formidable Spice Girls front singer who pushed her luck a little too far tonight. Beating fellow 40+ cougar Kylie Minogue is one thing but Lacey was simply too much for her and made sure Haliwell's FCBA swan song ends on a sour note. It was to be expected though and Geri's BBU future doesn't look much better either. There's simply very little demand for flyweights of her age anymore and some of the fighters breaking through on the big stage are young enough to be her daughters. That's probably the straw that breaks the camel's back - unless your name is Kristen Stewart - however Geri has received zero interest from the Philadelphia-based stable and bids farewell to her FCBA career tonight. It was a lot of fun while it lasted! 16 wins in 29 fights is truly much more fun than some of the current BBU crossover girls could even dream of...
Final result: Lacey Chabert def. Geri Halliwell KO5.
