Priyanka Chopra vs. Nina Dobrev
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)
BEFORE:
A pair of athletic brunettes square off in this one, and, while Nina has much more FCBA experience, it's clear Priyanka isn't concerned about that. "This fight isn't going to come down to experience. It's going to come down to physicality. And, in this division, there's no one more physical than ME."
"If Priyanka thinks she's going to come in here and bully me around," says a hard-eyed Nina, "She's making a mistake. Of course, she's already made a mistake by signing to fight me."
ROUND ONE:
Indian beauty is as good as her word, getting physical early. She's after the Bulgarian beauty from the opening bell, backing her up with hard, heavy shot. Dobrev fires back hard, but it's Chopra who's getting the better of the exchanges, and, fairly quickly, Nina's on the defensive, covering up, giving ground in chunks. Priyanka grabs all the canvas she can get, keeping the pressure on Dobrev, who's taking a solid beating and can't seem to find a way to slow her rival down. And, then, things get worse. With about a minute to go, Chopra lands a short right hand and Nina's legs do a shimmy! Dobrev's hurt and Chopra's all in, thumping away with both hands, trapping Nina in a corner and letting her have it for the remainder of the round. At the bell, the Bulgarian's wobbling, but still on her feet, and Chopra has the round wide and the 10-9 lead on the cards.
ROUND TWO:
Chopra rolling. She's got Nina buzzed and she's taking full advantage, sitting down on her punches, getting lots of heavy leather on target. Dobrev in survival mode. She's giving up ground, keeping the guard high, trying to play for time to get the legs back. But, the Bulgarian is nothing if not opportunistic. And, about a minute in, an opportunity presents itself and Nina keyholes a right-hand counter and PRIYANKA'S HURT! That quickly, the tables have turned as Dobrev goes all in, battering the Indian back into the ropes and hammering away with both hands. Chopra's listing badly, looking ready to go as Nina doubles down on the punishment, determined to finish her rival off before the round comes to a close. Despite her best efforts, however, she can't get the job done. For the second straight round, someone's wobbling but still standing at the bell. This time, that's Chopra and it's Nina who's won the round wide to even things at 19.
ROUND THREE:
Dobrev very aggressive early, determined to consolidate her advantage. She's REEFING heavy shot at a retreating Priyanka right up to the point where she WALKS INTO A RIGHT HAND! Dobrev staggers, nearly goes down, and now the Indian switches gears and goes over to the offensive. She still doesn't have the legs all the way back, but, with Nina a stationary target, Chopra is able to get plenty of leather home, even if it's not as heavy as it would be if she had her legs completely under her. She slowly backs the Bulgarian up, pinning her to the ropes in the final minute of the round and absolutely abusing her. Nina's hanging on, doing just enough to keep the referee at bay while Priyanka piles up tons of points. In the final seconds a NASTY combination from Chopra shakes Dobrev who almost goes down, but, before the referee can step in, the bell rings stopping the punishment. It's Chopra wide in the third, and the Indian is back on top 29-28.
ROUND FOUR:
Priyanka in command. Indian beauty has the Bulgarian hurt, and she's taking advantage of it. Nothing rushed about what Chopra's doing at the moment. She's finished the clean up and now she's consolidating, all the while looking for the finisher. For Nina's part, again, it survival mode. She's simply trying to stay on her feet, and, several times in the first minute and a half she nearly doesn't, as Chopra lands hard right hands that wobble her against and again. Referee keeping a close eye on Dobrev in the second half of the round, as Priyanka begins carving her up. There's very little a shaky-legged Nina can do other than give ground, cover up, and try to counter here and there. In the end, she's backed to the cables again, taking fire, but, again, she's able to last out the round. At the bell, Chopra's pitched a shutout to extend her lead to 39-37, but the cards are looking plenty academic.
ROUND FIVE:
More aggression from the dominant Priyanka as she's immediately after Neens to start the fifth. Priyanka looking to end things now, backing Dobrev up, firing heavy leather, WALKING INTO A RIGHT HAND! Nina pulls a page from Chopra's own book and catches her clean with a counter. Indian wobbles and Nina quickly follows up with a blizzard of leather. Chopra staggers backward and only the ropes prevent her from going down! Dobrev now all in and she's got the entire round in front of her. She's firing every gun she has at the listing S.S. Priyanka looking to send her down, but, Chopra's shipping the shell and holding on desperately. Referee again looking closely as Priyanka's not doing much. Nina, meanwhile, emptying the magazines as her rival leans back in the ropes taking shot after shot. Finally, mercifully, the bell. It's a shutout Dobrev and Chopra's lead is again a single point, 48-47.
ROUND SIX:
Now it's Nina looking to finish. Both women have had control and chances to end things, and both have been unable to cash those opportunities and seen their fortunes reversed as a result, and now Dobrev is determined to stop the Indian and stop her now. Priyanka's awesome legs are wobbly and she's clearly buzzed, but the athletic beauty is game, trying to hold canvas and fire back as Dobrev slowly backs her up with even more heavy leather. Thirty seconds in a hard right staggers Chopra and she nearly goes down again. Nina follows on with a blizzard of punches that send Priyanka stumbling and a vicious straight right and DOWN GOES PRIYANKA! Chopra crashes flat to her back as Dobrev raises her hands and stalks to a neutral corner. Indian beauty wrecked, staring dazed at the referee as he counts. She rolls to her belly at five, pushes to hands and knees and sinks back down. She's FINISHED. It's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Nina Dobrev!
AFTER:
Dobrev looks like she needs to utter the classic line "You should have seen the other guy." It's clear the Bulgarian's been in quite the fight. She's puffed and scuffed, but that doesn't stop the smile. "I told you all before this fight. You can't get in there and bully me around. That's what she tried. And, that's why she ended up flat on her back. I'm as physical as any bantam in the FCBA. And, I'm coming those belts!
