BEFORE:
"You know," says Alexis with a shake of the head, "I'm getting a little tired of people asking me when I'm going to get my first FCBA win. So, I've decided to DO something about it, and, what I'm going to do is knock out Jane Levy tonight!"
"It's nice to set goals," says Jane with just the hint of a smile. "But, the thing is, you want to set REALISTIC goals, you know?"
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'She's Gonna Break Soon' by Less Than Jake..."
Tess: "Wasn't that some sitcom from about a decade ago, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Shut UP, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Gonna start early, boys. Drink up as you watch the lovely Alexis Bledel from Houston, Texas, make her way to ringside."
McCarthy: "Bledel, who has NO FCBA wins and just ADMITTED IT HERSELF!"
Cassie: "Um, it's not a state secret, Mac. Anyone can see her FCBA record just by going to the FCBA website..."
McCarthy: "Well, if I didn't have a SINGLE FCBA win, I sure wouldn't talk about it!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Bledel into the ring and helped off with the robe. She's wearing that black number we've seen before. And, that's 'Pleasant Nightmare' by Alih Jey you hear behind us, and that can only mean that 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy, is on her way to the ring..."
Tess: "We talked early this year about the fact that Jane had a chance to take a big step forward this year, and, despite one slip up here at Asylum, she's done that with wins over quality fighters like Song and Holt."
Cassie: "She's definitely putting pressure on Kristen Stewart at the top of Front Street's flyweight division."
O'Dell: "Levy into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that peach bikini we've seen before. Ladies about ready. Time for some picks. Tess favors Jane. Mac?"
McCarthy: "I'm just going to record this. NO FCBA wins! Levy!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "The ladies are unanimous. Let's see if they're right. Bledel looking to work the long jab early, and this isn't a surprise. She's got height and reach on Levy and could do well by using that to her advantage. Jane bobbing the head, moving the feet, looking to angle at the moment..."
Cassie: "Levy not a pure pressure fighter. She can and has worked inside, worked body, but she's very athletic and she likes to box and move."
O'Dell: "And, that's what she's doing right now. Bledel, however, doing it better. Alexis very accurate with that left jab, and that's playing for her in a big way. She's stopping Jane with it, holding her, setting her up for right hands. Brunette fighting lead right now, despite Levy's best efforts..."
Tess: "Definitely making it hard for Jane to get any offense going. Bledel not landing some ridiculously high percentage or anything, but she's piling up a lead, because Jane isn't getting off."
O'Dell: "Exactly, and nothing's changing as we head for the bell. Brunette's been very, very solid this round, showing an excellent fight plan and an ability to execute it. Ten seconds to go, and Bledel going to jab out the round. There's the bell. Alexis solid in the first, and she's got the early 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second underway and Bledel right back to that long left jab. Alexis a tall flyweight, no question of that, and she's using that height very, very well early. Redhead again trying to angle, trying to get to spots, but she's simply been unable to do it. Bledel in control with the jab."
McCarthy: "You know, I sometimes feel BAD for Weirdo's Dancing Hookers. Since they have no management or trainers who know what they're doing, stuff like this happens to them..."
Tess: "Stuff like what, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Stuff like a girl just STIFFING you with a jab and you don't know how to counter it...something a REAL trainer, like me, would have told her how to do between rounds..."
O'Dell: "About half way through the second. Bledel in control. Levy not hurt, but she's definitely taking the worst of it so far. Alexis just very accurate with the left hand, and, again, that's setting up everything else. Jane not on the defensive, exactly, but she's spending too much time trying to get to spots."
Cassie: "That's exactly it, Jenny. She's just not able to get where she needs to be to punch at the moment."
O'Dell: "Thirty seconds to go in the second. Bledel just continuing to ride the snappy left hand. Levy trying to work around it, but just can't get it done. Ten seconds to go. GOOD right hand Alexis! Best punch of the fight. Levy not hurt, but that got her attention for sure. And, there's the bell. Solid gain to the brunette."
Tess: "And, Bledel now up 20-18 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Into the third and we're seeing a tactical change from Levy. Redhead now wants to come forward. She's working past the jab, instead of trying to avoid it, and then going to work on the body. Alexis tying up when she does that, looking to create breaks so that she can send Levy back to the outside..."
McCarthy: "Smart stuff by Bledel. HER people apparently know what they're doing."
O'Dell: "Levy working forward again, bobbing the head, moving the feet, now going body. Bledel again tying up, but Jane punching free, banging away in there. Alexis responding in kind, but Levy having the better of it on these terms. GOOD right hand from Jane, her best punch of the fight..."
Cassie: "Bledel does not want to be in there with Levy."
O'Dell: "And, she's able to tie up and force the break. Jane right back forward, however. Redhead, a former college soccer player, has great feet and you're seeing that now, as she's past the defenses and working body again, right to the bell. Best round of the fight for Jane. Still close, but Levy gets the points."
Tess: "And, it's now 29-28 for Alexis."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Levy sticking with the adjustment early in the fourth. She's continuing to come forward, close, bang, putting the pressure on Bledel. Alexis able to slow her with that accurate jab, but, eventually, Jane's past it and working body. Brunette doing the best she can to counter when that happens, but..."
Cassie: "As I said last round, Bledel does NOT want to be in there with Levy."
O'Dell: "Jane tenderizing meat in there, thumping ribs and midsection, going upstairs, then coming right back down. Alexis tying up, trying to slow the redhead down, but Jane punching free and she BACKED UP BLEDEL WITH THAT RIGHT HOOK! Alexis covering up now as Jane lets the hands go..."
McCarthy: "Bledel's hurt, no doubt about it."
O'Dell: "And, Levy just all OVER her right now. She's gone from the body to the head as she thumps away with both hands, working Alexis to the ropes, where she goes back to the body to try to bring the guard down. Twenty seconds to go. Alexis keeping the mitts high as Jane just HAMMERS the midsection to the bell. Levy. Wide.
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth begins with more aggression from Levy. Jane all about bringing Alexis to battle now, getting into that phone booth and banging away. Bledel seems to have the legs back, so she's moving, jabbing, trying to maintain distance, but Jane again slipping past her gloves and going to work..."
Tess: "Has to be frustrating for Bledel. She was doing well at range, but she can't stay there."
O'Dell: "Can't get the space, because the redhead simply isn't willing to let her have it. Alexis banging back in close. She's game, but she's definitely coming off second best. There's a left hook that backs Bledel up a step and a RIGHT UPPERCUT AND DOWN GOES ALEXIS!"
McCarthy: "Wow! Just ragdolled to the canvas!"
Cassie (singing): "Turn out the liiiiigggghhhhhtttssss. The party's oooooovvveerrrrrr...."
O'Dell: "Alexis just crumpled to her back arms outstretched at her sides, eyes closed. Jane to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Bledel not moving at all, ladies. Seven. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! That quickly, it is OVER! And your winner by KO5 is 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Jane Levy, and, Jane, little bit of a rough start, but you turned it around..."
Jane (nodding): "She can box and, with that length she has, that caused a problem for me for awhile. Finally, I realized I couldn't box with and I was going to have to get after her."
Tess: "And, when you did that, the advantage shifted."
Jane (smiling): "Sure did. She wasn't going to stand up to me inside. I've got too much power for her in there, and it was just a matter of time before I got her."
