TEXAS INVASION AT THE ASYLUM

Results: Lookout     Writing: The Wiz

BEFORE:

"It's great to be back in the ring," says Jill with a smile. "It's been a while, but, not so long that I'm not ready for Gemma. We've gone around before. And, I was the one who came out on top. Tonight won't be any different."

"Oh, she's good," says a hard-eyed Gems. "She's beaten a lot of good fighters and she's had a ton of success here at Asylum. And, yes, some of that success came against me. But, tonight, I get a chance to get that win back, and that's exactly what I plan to do."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'London Calling' booming through the arena, and here comes 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton!"

Cassie: "Uncle Wiz, as always, showing class and giving the honors to Jilly Wags, since she won the first time these two fighters met."

McCarthy: "Weirdo wouldn't know class if someone dropped him into the middle of one."

Tess: "Front Street has had a stacked lightweight division for some time, and, while it's smaller since the reboot, it's as stacked as ever, and Gemma's right at the top of it."

McCarthy: "And, aside from Torv, none of them are fit to carry Palicki's bikini top..."

O'Dell: "Arterton into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that violet bikini she likes and the fans also appreciate. And that's 'In The Hall of the Mountain King' by Edvard Grieg, and that can only mean that the lovely Jill Wagner of the Bazz Fight Club is on her way down the aisle..."

Cassie: "Jilly WAGS! Jilly WAGS! Jilly WAGS!"

Tess: "And, as both fighters mentioned, Jill has had great success here at Asylum, boasting a 3-1 record, and one of those wins was against the girl she's going to face tonight."

O'Dell: "Wagner into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal that zebra striped bikini we've seen before and she's looking mighty good as always. Ladies look to be ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Gemma. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Wagner beat her once. She'll beat her again."

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "Jilly Wags!"

O'Dell: "And, there's the bell. Wagner all movement early and that's no surprise. Jill one of the most athletic lights in the FCBA and she's an excellent boxer. Add those two things together, and she can cause problems for anyone in the division, as Gemma found out the first time they fought."

Tess: "Arterton going to eventually look to cut the ring, I suspect, but, for the moment, she's willing to move with Jill."

O'Dell: "Gems plenty athletic herself, as you can see as she matches footwork, forces exchanges. Jill keeping those short. Knows Arterton has the advantage in weight of shot, so long firefights are not the game she wants to play. Instead, Wagner want to stick, move, stop and pop..."

Cassie: "And, you can see how effective she is at this kind of boxing. She's got great hands and great feet."

O'Dell: "Final twenty seconds of the first round. Wagner jabbing, circling, reversing, resetting. She's here and there, everywhere and nowhere. Arterton's seen all this before. She's continuing to pursue, looking to set up those exchanges. Five seconds left and there's the bell. Close first to Wagner."

McCarthy: "If you'll recall, Jill won the first fight by a single point, so that 10-9 lead she just grabbed could be big."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second begins the way the first ended. Wagner moving, Arterton looking to match footwork, bring her to battle. Jill very, very slick, though. She's staying in open canvas, giving herself places to move to so that she can keep the heavy-fire exchanges short. Arterton resolute. Keeps working the feet..."

Cassie: "Gemma getting a little more done this round. She's getting the left on a little more effectively."

O'Dell: "And, that's allowing her to score more consistently. Meanwhile, Wagner continuing to set the tone with the movement. She's jabbing, circling, only stopping to pop here and there. For the second consecutive stanza, we've got two-way action without a lot in it as we head down the stretch."

McCarthy: "Wagner's doing just what she needs to do to win this fight. She keeps doing this, Arterton's going to lose."

O'Dell: "That's yet to be determined, but, for the moment, Jill's doing a lot of what she did the first time, and she DID win that fight. Twenty seconds to go in the round. Arterton a solid combination there, her best punches of the fight. Wagner circles away, jabs, dances as Gems tries to close, and there's the bell. Close. Arterton."

Tess: "And we're even at 19 after two."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Pattern pretty well set now. Wagner's going to move, Arterton's going to move with. Note, I don't use the term 'stalk', because that's not really the case. Both fighters looking to box, Jill just wants to do it on the move. Wagner circling, stopping, popping, and GETTING ROCKED! Arterton staggers Jill with a right hand..."

Tess: "And she absolutely timed it perfectly. Had to to land it!"

O'Dell: "Wagner covers up as Gems goes all in now. Arterton letting the hands go, battering her fellow brunette back into the ropes and then getting the heavy guns sighted. Wagner in a tight guard, leaning back in the ropes, taking heavy fire from all directions as Gemma looks to find the finisher..."

Cassie: "No panic in Jilly Wags. She's rolling with, blocking, slipping, playing solid defense."

O'Dell: "That, she is, but Gemma's still getting hard shot home and the question is, how much more of it can Wagner take and how much more of it will the referee allow her to take before he steps in. We're down to just twenty seconds in the round. BIG flurry by Gemma, but Jill now fires back. Ten seconds. Another solid exchange and there's the bell. Arterton, wide. But Wagner's still alive."

McCarthy: "And looking like she's far from finished, even if she is down 29-28."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Arterton wants to consolidate to start the fourth. She's right after Wagner as Jill gives some ground, counters in spots and LANDS A BIG RIGHT HAND! Wagner shows two can play at the timing game and she wobbles Gemma with a counter! And now it's Jill who's all in!"

Cassie: "That's Jilly Wags right THERE!"

O'Dell: "Wagner letting the hands go, battering a wobbly Arterton. Gemma giving ground, being backed to the ropes by Wagner just as she backed Jill up last round. Wagner digging some body trying to bring the guard down, then going back upstairs with a solid right hand. Ref again looking in closely..."

McCarthy: "Wagner has time and she's being patient."

O'Dell: "Indeed, she is, setting up her punches, working hard but smart like the veteran she is. Twenty seconds to go. Jilly banging away looking for the finisher, but being denied just like she denied Gemma last round. Five seconds left and there's the bell. Wagner and wide, but, like last round, an opportunity to finish missed."

Tess: "And, we're even at 38."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Into the fifth and now it's Wagner pressing the advantage, but Gemma has some legs back and she's firing back hard. Jill quickly and smartly changing tactics here, back to the war of movement. Wagner going to use HER legs and make Gemma try hers out as a result..."

Cassie: "Again, that's Jilly Wags...as smart as anyone in the FCBA."

O'Dell: "Arterton showing that her own gams are in good shape. She's moving well, looking to match footwork and square, set up exchanges. Brit having the better of those in most cases due to weight of shot, but Wagner holding her own and keeping them short, staying in open canvas."

Tess: "This is a fun fight to watch if you like good, technical boxing, because both of these fighters are very, very good at it."

O'Dell: "Final 30 seconds of the round. Arterton lands a good combination and Wagner responds. Jill circles away. Gemma quickly stepping to for another flurry, but Jill's gone quickly, moving into the open, scoring with the left hand, slipping a response from Gems and then legging out the remainder of the round. Close. Arterton."

McCarthy: "And that puts Gemma back ahead 48-47 at the half."

ROUND SIX:

O'Dell: "Wagner again on the move to start the sixth. Jill very quick and also very smooth. Everything flows together with Wagner the footwork, the jab, the resulting combinations, and, when she's got it going like she does right now, she's very, very tough to deal with, as Arterton is finding out."

Cassie: "Jill has the range and timing at the moment. She's getting that left in Gemma's face, stopping her for enough time to follow with the right. Then, she's gone before Arterton can fire back."

O'Dell: "Gems resolute as always, working the legs, looking to square and force exchanges. Wagner making that very, very difficult. Another good flurry from Jill and DOWN SHE GOES! Arterton with that split-second right hand again and Wagner dropped to her rump by it!"

McCarthy: "Lucky!"

O'Dell: "Arterton to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Jill to her feet. Referee gives her the mandatory and waives Gemma forward. Arterton now throwing everything in the magazine at Wagner. She's got her on the ropes and she's letting her have it with both hands. BIG right from Gems staggers Jill and there's ANOTHER and a NASTY left hook and IT'S OVER! Referee leaping in and waiving it off and it's OVER! And your winner by TKO6 is Gemma Arterton!"

Tess: "Heck of a fight. Heck of a fight."

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Gemma Arterton, and, Gems, a tough one tonight..."

Gemma (nodding): "Always is with her. She gives you nothing. Everything you get, you have to work hard for. Every single thing."

Tess: "You had a chance to finish her and then she had a chance to finish you and when you got your second chance, you made no mistake..."

Gemma: "Couldn't. I've been down this road with her. Go to the cards against her and you might not like what you hear when they read the decision. Let her off the hook in the sixth, and we might have been going there. No, thanks. Been there, and didn't like that.
