VICTORIA'S SECRET WAR IN HEAVEN PRELIMINARY ROUND 2

3. Irina Shayk vs Monika Jagaciak

BEFORE:
This is a classic Eastern European match-up, however there's more than national pride at stake between Irina and Monika tonight as they both try to bounce back into winning contention, having struggled for results ever since joining FCBA. Irina Shayk has won just once in five attempts and comes off a painful beach boxing defeat to another fellow Slavic girl Karolina Kurkova back in July. Meanwhile, Monika Jagaciak has racked up two defeats including a nasty lesson from the highly-touted Nina Agdal. In fact the Danish model on the VIXENs service represents the target both Irina and Monika would like to achieve. She also entered the FCBA via a losing streak before rolling along until Brooklyn Decker finally stopped her vicious run.

The beach crowd doesn't have a designated favorite in this contest so both girls receive a very warm ovation and it's fair to wonder whether a potential brutal KO is the only thing that drives this explosive support? Well, let's find out!

Irina Shayk wears a navy blue bikini set and white gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a curly ponytail. Monika Jagaciak wears a pink bikini set and silver gloves. Long dark blonde hair tied in a loose braid. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.

ROUND 1:
Both girls are exactly 5'10" tall so there's nothing to choose between them early on apart from Irina's visible aggression that gives the Polish blonde plenty of trouble in the process. For every Monika punch, Irina lands three or four and outworks her foe in close range, before landing more aerial shots on target as Jagaciak struggles to find her range. The Polish model just can't match the Russian's intensity and lacks the speed which opens up more holes in her defense as she gets picked off from point-blank range and pummeled around the ring down the stretch. The constant retreat is simply a woeful display of boxing but Shayk remains in hassling mode until the bell and prevents the younger girl from making any counterpunching inroads possible.

ROUND 2:
Monika just lets it go early on and lands a lucky punch on the nose that stacks Irina up and allows the blonde to send in some crisp shots to the body. For all the Shayk advantage in the opener, she didn't really hurt the Polish woman, albeit she made her look a little spooked out there. No such problems in the second as Monika drives her mitts into the brunette's midsection and kicks up a storm as she rumbles through the loose surface and drives the older model butt-in-ropes come the second minute. Irina's defense is hardly elite and Monika needs to find more courage in her efforts if she wants to score that elusive maiden victory. She does well enough to trap the Russian on the ropes but then gets clinched and both models wrestle for supremacy in the corner which runs the clock down in highly ineffective fashion.

ROUND 3:
Jagaciak finds more speed in her execution and beats the Russian for a quick overhand but then adds a nasty follow up on the navel and bends her foe forward. She splits Irina's mitts with a bursting uppercut and sinks her on soft knees before a left hook finds the ear and sends the Russian tripping back to the ropes. Suddenly it's a carbon copy of the opener however with Monika doing all the hasslin'. She tracks Shayk down and fires over the top, then switches downstairs where she found so much success in the previous round. Irina riffles several hooks away from target and has lost all her accuracy in the ring but at least she keeps the inexperienced opponent on her toes. Monika leans too much on her and eats a left hook on the nose but then drives through the high guard and clatters into the brunette's lips... Ugh! Irina screams out in pain and drops to the ropes - she dekes to the left at the last second but Jagaciak still nails her with a crisp hook right at the bell and that one makes Shayk gurgle in anger as she bumps the blonde off while crossing the ring. Ugh! The girls give each other a long stare and maybe, just maybe there's some grudge script brewing out there!

ROUND 4:
Monika looks to resume the offensive hassling but Irina storms out of her stool and when both girls meet in the middle it's a hammer & tongs exchange that would make most of the flyweights proud! The blonde bursts into the Russian's lips and squashes them like a bug however Shayk's aerial attack nails the Pole on both ears and wobbles her into a jaw-cleaning uppercut! Ugh! Monika slides onto her heels and commits the cardinal mistake of trying to swing one from the back foot... the punch goes nowhere and Irina counters her with a brutal hook on the jaw on the spot... Oi, Monika!!! The Polish girl goes flying into the ropes and it's a miracle she doesn't go down here! However Shayk rumbles through the noise and traps her against the turnbuckle where she hammers in more leather on the body before flirting with another uppercut drive. Geez, it's like Irina wants to break Monika's jaw on purpose but even with the Polish girl aching out from behind the guard, she survives the Russian onslaught in one piece. Shayk screams out in delight at the bell and she's secured the most impressive round to date however there's more work required since the blonde displayed better than expected punching resistance in the process.

ROUND 5:
Monika has soaked up a ton of pressure in the fourth and that reflects in her sluggish approach here as she loses the initial tangle with Irina hauling in a couple of nasty jabs up the middle before a follow up hook finds the temple and sends the blonde into a retreat. Shayk is quick enough to match the Pole's escape though and lands more crippling shots as she dominates the opening minute and pounds her rival into the ropes. Monika begins to groan in pain but she can't respond with a counter-punching flurry and loses another tangle which only fuels the brunette's desire to knock her out right here and right now. Jagaciak disappears behind a tight earmuff come the final minute and if only Irina could steer her shots a little better... the lack of regular ring exposure possibly contributes to the Russian's dwindling precision however she does more than enough to keep the younger model stuffed in the corner when the bell rings. The beach audience applauds her push for glory but Irina herself looks annoyed and she knows best that she let the Polish girl off the hook and quite frankly should have scored a knockdown at this stage at the very least!

ROUND 6:
Monika's punching resistance was impressive in the early stages but the strikes simply begin to stack up now and a belting hook that nails her during another feisty tangle cripples her into spasms and allows Irina to finally land the proper juice... she smacks Jagaciak's braid into a tailspin with a double uppercut combo and sinks her on jelly knees with a left hook on the solar plexus... oh dear, Monika shimmy shakes to the side and rolls down the windows with her arms but Irina plants all her force on the right leg and lands the haymaker of the night (a left hook that is) which slams the blonde on the nasal ridge AND HALF-SPINS HER FACE-DOWN ON THE SAND!!! Oh my! And that one cooks the proud Polish model raw as she stays face down on the sand during the count and can't stop sobbing her heart out when it's all over! KO6 Irina Shayk in serviceable fashion!!!

AFTER:
Ugh! That was long time coming but Irina finally put the younger model down even though she won't be winning the artistic impression elite marks following this uneven performance. She dominated the last three rounds of this fight but left way too much on the table and quite frankly should have finished Jagaciak off much sooner! There's a reason she doesn't belong to the lightweight elite right now - or even the Victoria's Secret top shelf - and if Gigi Hadid manages to take Elsa Hosk down next, then the Russian's presence in the tournament bracket might come to an end after just two fights. Still, a win's a win and Irina plants her foot on Monika's butt which keeps the Polish model pressed against the hard canvas and enduring more humiliation as the brunette flexes her muscles for the camera. A smile is one for the front covers however most pundits agree that she'll have to improve a lot if she wants to go beyond Monika Jagaciak in this tournament.
