Natalie Dormer vs Minka Kelly

BEFORE: The emergence of Kaya Scodelario as an elite contender has seriously affected Natalie Dormer's quest to remain the top British fighter in the bantamweight division. The Reading blonde actually hasn't won a fight since stopping Hall of Famer Britney Spears back in August 2014 but keeps booking nothing but top shelf opposition and Lioness Club's Minka Kelly is hardly an exception from this rule.

The California brunette enters tonight's contest on the heels of back-to-back defeats to fellow divisional champions Emily VanCamp and Claire Holt and BLONDE! Magazine suggests that Dormer's cold streak serves as a platform to snap Minka's own lousy series however since when losing to the likes of EVC and Holt can be described as being "lousy"? Minka pushed these elite performers all the way and remains in contention for another championship run in the foreseeable future. Moreover Natalie's scalp looks great on anyone's resume considering her high-profile movie & TV career.

Round 1:
Natalie flies out of the gate and tries to upstage the brunette with her initial jabbing drive that meets a stubborn guard at first but then forces Minka to cover up in close range as the blonde rips punches up the middle in hurry-up mode. Durability and defense are Minka's biggest values in the ring and she rarely loses her temper and turns up the aggressive heat so early in a fight which plays into Dormer's strenghts during the opening round tonight. The British girl keeps raining punches as if the sheer effort would be enough to overwhelm the Irish-American however the accuracy of these strikes drops as we head into the final minute and Kelly halts the blonde's charge while working the jabs off the front (right) leg. For all her aggression, Natalie was unable to pin the older woman onto the ropes and things will probably only get more challenging once the brunette kicks into a higher gear.

Round 2:
Plenty of smoke but little fire from Dormer again... she throws multiple jabs at the brunette seemingly trying to engage her in a close range tussle but Kelly sticks to her gameplan and avoids the offensive rush until she sets up a solid counterpunching platform herself. Natalie skims off the high guard with majority of her efforts and makes little progress while the brunette picks her off from behind the guard in effective if unspectacular fashion. The lukewarm back & forth action continues until the bell with Natalie unable to enforce the aggressive streak and Minka apparently unwilling to do so. The lack of proper punching success leaves the blonde visibly angry at the bell but Minka was supposed to dominate the defensive drills regardless.

Round 3:
Dormer starts another round on a high note working from the inside against Kelly's midriff but a scything left cross on the jaw halts her in the tracks and allows the Lioness veteran to add a rapid follow up series that knocks the blonde's head back on the spot. Natalie gets trapped in a close range aerial attack and doesn't have the mobility to escape the heat which results in more crisp strikes crashing through her leaky guard. Ugh! Natalie begins to scowl in pain as she's getting pounded and Minka moves up a gear to reel her onto the ropes where she switches downstairs and completes the wrecking job by hauling more blows to the body. Dormer's defense is gone here and she has trouble even clinching the fired up opponent who has clearly pulled away on the performance level. Minka's so committed to pounding the blonde's body, she fails to acknowledge the bell and has to be wrestled back by the ref.

Round 4:
If the Reading woman was upset over the lack of offensive success early on, she has to be downright mad at the defensive struggles and Minka just picks up the pace in the fourth to dismantle the blonde's high guard straight off the bell. Another close range tussle pins Natalie on her heels when she eats a right/left combo on the mouth and fails to react to a quick switch on the liver area. Ugh! Kelly just wades in through the truly dismal guard and one has to wonder if Natalie' best years are behind her now despite plenty of fanfare in the media. She gets blasted to the body and Minka's power supply drives her butt-in-ropes where she keeps soaking up abuse to the point she screams out in pain... however the brunette's charge doesn't stop there and she leans on the subdued blonde so much she almost head-butts her in the nose alas she shuts down Natalie's efforts to punch herself out of the trap alltogether. The midsection drive in the second minute leaves Dormer rocking on somewhat jelly legs and another brutally accurate hook finally pierces her liver area early in the third. Ugh! The blonde cries out her loudest and SPINS DOWN TO THE CANVAS hugging her wounded area. She bends forward to rest her head against the canvas and remains in embrional position all the way through the count. KO4 Minka Kelly!!!

AFTER: This was a much easier victory for Minka than the entire LCA entourage had anticipated. The left-handed veteran only got going in the third round and still wrecked the blonde to the body in a matter of minutes. This tells a separate story about Natalie's current form - or lack thereof - but that's not Kelly's or coach Claudia Schiffer's problem. In fact, the Irish-American looks a little upset she couldn't pound away at the blonde beyond the fourth. She's been through a proper durability test against VanCamp and Holt lately but one always wants to see the other girl suffer mentally as well as physically if possible. Dormer showed zero response to the offensive upgrade from the brunette and her claims to challenge Kaya Scodelario for the British bantamweight supremacy look absolutely dead on arrival based on tonight's performance.
