BEFORE:
"I won't say Anna's been ducking me," says Jessica with the hint of a smile. "Because, it's not just Anna. This whole DIVISION has been ducking me, which is why I've had ONE fight in the last two years! And, after I beat Torv tonight, my phone may be quiet for the next decade."
"I DO believe some people have been ducking her," says Anna with a nod. "She's a talented fighter and she's proven it. There are a lot of easier wins around than Jessica Pare. But. I'm fine doing things the hard way."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Zou Bisou Bisou'..."
McCarthy: "Zouzou? Isn't she a HUNDRED by now?"
O'Dell: "Not Zouzou..."
McCarthy: "I remember her from that James Coburn movie with the hang gliders."
Cassie: "Fans, Mac is referring to the film 'Sky Riders', which did, indeed, star James Coburn and was released back in 1976, when Mac was in her 20s..."
McCarthy: "In MY...I was FOUR...you LITTLE..."
O'Dell: "WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT A MOVIE FROM 1976? ? The song is 'Zou Bisou Bisou' and was featured in 'Mad Men', which aired in THIS millennium and was sung by the lovely brunette now coming to the ring, Jessica Pare!"
Tess: "'Sky Riders' also starred Susannah York, Robert Culp, and Harry Andrews and was filmed in Meteora in Greece, where the finale of the James Bond movie 'For Your Eyes Only' was set."
Cassie: "Interestingly, producers Sandy Howard and Terry Morse, Jr., were actually imprisoned by the Greek military government after a Greek electrician was killed in an explosion on the set. They had to bribe Greek officials to secure their release and make certain the crew member at fault wasn't imprisoned in Greece."
Tess: "Also, 'Sky Riders' was the first English-language film ever seen by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan..."
O'Dell: "IF you two are finished, Pare is into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a blue flowered bikini and a body that gets quite the reaction from the crowd."
McCarthy: "Philly. Low standards."
O'Dell: "And, that's 'The Pain and the Passion' and that can only mean that 'The Aussie Enforcer', Anna Torv is on her way to the ring."
McCarthy: "FINALLY! A REAL fighter."
O'Dell: "Anna taps glove to fist with Mac on the way by. Climbs into the ring and is helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that black bikini we've seen before. And, the ladies are ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Anna. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Torv, of course."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, there's the bell. Ladies assume a boxing posture, and that's no surprise. Both of these ladies know how to box at range, and that's clearly the plan early. Anna using that educated left hand of hers to pop into the face of the brunette, bouncing her head back just a bit every time..."
McCarthy: "Torv DOES have a heavy jab."
O'Dell: "She does, indeed, and she's using it very well. Meanwhile, Pare showing some solid boxing skills of her own. She's getting punches put together, getting right hands on target, scoring well with both hands. This is very good stuff, early, ladies. Not much feeling out happening..."
Cassie: "Two veterans. They know what they're doing and what they need to do."
O'Dell: "Final thirty seconds of the first. Ladies still working the jabs, dropping in the right hands, really putting combinations together well. Lots of good defense being shown, too, as lots of punches are being slipped and picked off. It's back and forth stuff to the bell. Close. Torv."
Tess: "And, Anna leads 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second underway and we're seeing more of what we saw in the first. Back and forth stuff between blonde and brunette. These two ladies know how to box, and they're using every bit of that knowledge right now. Neither really able to take control of this thing. Both getting stuff done, though..."
McCarthy: "Keep doing this and Anna wins. Pare isn't out-boxing Torv."
O'Dell: "Well, right now, she's boxing with her. We're headed for the half way point of the second round and there's just not much in it. The ladies both having their moments, but neither able to gain an edge. Good right hand, Anna, there. Best punch of the fight but a SOLID combination in response from Pare..."
Cassie: "All Pare's needed has been work. She's got the goods as she's shown. She's just never had consistent work."
O'Dell: "Twenty seconds to go. GOOD exchange there! Both fighters landed solid shot and there's ANOTHER FLURRY! Sweat flying in that one as MORE good punches land. Five seconds to go. One MORE big exchange and there's the bell. Nothing in it. Even round< i think, ladies."
Tess: "Meaning Torv still has the lead, 20-19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Ranged boxing the name of the game as we begin the third. Blonde and brunette both showing plenty of skill. Great timing. Putting things together well. Everything setting up everything else, and, again, not much in it either way. SOLID right from Torv there and a GREAT COUNTER BY PARE AND DOWN GOES ANNA!"
Cassie: "Wow! She keyholed that right hand!"
O'Dell: "And Torv takes a knee as a result! Pare to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Anna to her feet at six. Referee gives her the mandatory and ON COMES JESSICA! Brunette working for the finish now. Not hurried. Clinical. Backing Anna up with heavy fire. Landing solid shot with both hands..."
McCarthy: "Torv very slick on defense. She's picking off a lot of this."
Tess: "But, plenty's getting through as well."
O'Dell: "No doubt about that. Coming down the stretch in the third and Torv still in plenty of trouble. Pare a SOLID right hand that shook the blonde. Anna pinned to the cables now. Fifteen seconds to go. She's just trying to run clock in a high guard as Jessica goes to town right to the bell. HUGE round for Pare."
Cassie: "And, with the 10-8, she's up 29-28 after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Everything's changed with that one punch from the Canadian. Brunette now in control of the fight. She's coming forward behind the jab, at the blonde aggressively. Aussie trying to mount a fighting retreat, but it's mainly just a retreat at the moment. Pare keeping her on the defensive with suppressive fire..."
Tess: "Torv continuing to try to hold canvas, but, right now, she can't get it done."
O'Dell: "Doesn't have the legs all the way back under her at the moment, it appears. And, Jessica knows it. Pare a SOLID combination forces Torv to cover up. Anna lands a nice counter, but another flurry from Jessica backs her up again. Canadian's really got it going right now, Mac..."
McCarthy: "Torv's managing it pretty well, though. She'll get out of the round and turn this thing around."
O'Dell: "Final twenty seconds of the fourth. Canadian has controlled it completely. Torv managing some offense here and there, but it's Pare who's getting the points scored, getting the leather home. Ten seconds left. NICE exchange saw good punches land from both fighters and there's the bell. Pare. Wide."
Cassie: "39-37, Jessica after four."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth begins with more aggression from Pare. She's forward again, but, now Torv able to firm up her defenses, hold canvas, fire back with solid shot and we're seeing a serious FIREFIGHT right now! Ladies trading bombs in the middle of the ring and TORV ROCKS THE BRUNETTE!"
McCarthy: "You can't stand in front of Anna Torv like that!"
O'Dell: "And, now it's Pare backing and covering as Anna lets the hands go. Torv landing hard right hands being set up by that heavy left jab of hers. Jessica now working in counter. She's giving ground, but able to land rejoinders here and there, and, more importantly, able to stay off the ropes."
Cassie: "Torv piling up plenty of points, though."
O'Dell: "That, she's is. She's grabbed control of the fight now, and she's punishing the Canadian, no question of that. But, Jessica hanging tough, shaking the worst of the cobwebs and firing back more as we approach the end of the round. One more sharp exchange and there's the bell. Anna. Wide."
Tess: "But, Pare still up 48-47 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Torv forward behind that left to start the second half of the fight. Pare looks to have the legs back, but it doesn't matter at the moment, because the Aussie has found the range with that left, and she is touching up the Canadian at the moment. Jessica being forced to the defensive again..."
McCarthy: "This is why I say Weirdo ought to get rid of all those other lights and push THIS girl. She's the best he has, by far."
O'Dell: "She's looking plenty good at the moment. This is great technical stuff, as Torv continues to find openings for that left, setting up hard right hands. Pare not hurt now, but she's getting forced backward by the sheer volume of hard shot coming from the blonde. GOOD right hand there for Torv and Pare covers up..."
Tess: "This is impressive stuff from Anna. We've seen it before, but, it makes you shake your head every time."
O'Dell: "When Torv gets it humming on all cylinders like this it IS something to see, but it's not nearly as much fun for the girl in the ring with her. Pare taking a licking right now. She's still ticking as we go down the stretch, but there's no question who's grabbed this round big. There's the bell. It's Torv."
Cassie: "And, we're all even at 57."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Torv right back to work in the seventh. Pare now determined to hold her ground, but she can't get it done. Anna just buzzing her with this hard, accurate fire, forcing her to back and cover. Anna doubling and tripling that jab at the moment, and, when she's created those openings, the right hands landing with force."
Tess: "Jessica needs to figure something out here, because she's being taken to the woodshed."
O'Dell: "That, she is, and Torv's showing no signs of slowing down. Aussie just in complete rhythm now. Everything working for her and it doesn't seem like there's anything Pare can do to slow this down. NICE right hand from Torv and that shook the Canadian and a LEFT HOOK BY ANNA AND DOWN GOES PARE!"
Cassie: "That was a NASTY left!"
O'Dell: "And it dropped Pare in a heap on her left side. Torv to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. No movement at all from the Canadian. Seven. Eight. This is academic. Nine. TEN! And it is OVER! And your winner by KO7 in comeback fashion is 'The Aussie Enforcer', Anna Torv!"
McCarthy: "Like I said, she's the best Weirdo has."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Anna Torv, and, Anna, it got a little tough for a couple of rounds..."
Anna: "Not surprised. We all knew coming in that this girl could fight. She's proven it before. This wasn't going to be any walkover, and it wasn't. But, I got the job done."
Tess: "You did, and it seemed to start in that fifth round."
Anna (nodding): "Once I got going then, I wasn't going to let my foot up off the pedal. I had it rolling, and, good as she is, once that happened, it was just a matter of time before I got her."
