BEFORE:
"No, being here isn't anything new for me," says Rhona with a smile. "I like it here, and it's a good place to break this losing streak."
"She's as tough and physical as anyone in this division," says Serinda with a nod. "But, so am I. So am I."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Mars Bringer of War' by Gustav Holst..."
Cassie: "RHO-NA! RHO-NA! RHO-NA!"
O'Dell: "And, as Cassandra Lynn just indicated, that means that Rhona Mitra of the Bazz Fight Club is on her way to the ring..."
Tess: "And, as Rhona points out, she's on a bit of a losing streak. But. With the kind of power she has, that can end with any punch..."
Cassie: "And, it only takes one."
O'Dell: "Mitra into the ring and helped off with the robe by the Bazz corner crew. She's wearing that gray bikini we've seen before. And, that's 'Foxey Lady' by Jimi Hendrix hammering through the arena, and here comes 'The Hottest Player In The Game', Serinda Swan!"
McCarthy: "She's not even the hottest player in this ARENA...as long as I'M here..."
Tess: "SOMEbody has a high opinion of herself, as usual..."
McCarthy: "How many times has SWAN been on the cover of 'Playboy'?"
O'Dell: "Serinda into the ring to be helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that red bikini she prefers and the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess favors Serinda. Mac?"
McCarthy: "I think Rhona breaks the streak. Mitra."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "You know I'm going with my GIRL..."
O'Dell: "And, the first begins. No surprise that the ladies are going to set up at range. Both of these brunettes have reach and know how to use it, and, of course, ranged warfare means they can extend on their punches and get plenty of power behind them, and that's something ELSE these two share, excellent power."
Cassie: "Not many lights who can hit with Rhona, that's for sure."
O'Dell: "Mitra a GOOD right hand there, got Swan's attention. Serinda backed up a step, but quickly back to work. Both ladies working their respective jabs, looking to use them to set up right hands. Swan showing those excellent feet. She's one of the most athletic lights in the FCBA..."
Tess: "No question about that. She moves very, very well."
O'Dell: "Rhona, though, a very smart veteran and she knows how to get a girl lined up, no matter HOW well she moves, and you're seeing her do it right now. Both fighters landing a good percentage here early. Ten seconds to go in the round. One more exchange, and there's the bell. Close one. Mitra."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second round looks like a carbon copy of the first early..."
Tess: "You know, we talked about the fact that people are going to have no idea what a phone booth was at some point. We may have to find a term to replace 'carbon copy', too..."
Cassie: "Clone? That might work. People know what clones are."
O'Dell (sighing): "Let's just say the early part of the second looks just like the first with the ladies boxing at range. Swan a little more movement now, angling, looking to stay off square, make Rhona move her feet more. Mitra's plenty athletic, but Swan a little more nimble and she's using that to her advantage."
McCarthy: "ALWAYS better to be the quicker, more athletic girl. When I fought someone like Campbell, it was a HUGE advantage..."
Cassie: "Which doesn't explain why she whipped your butt six of seven..."
McCarthy: "SHE...I...I WAS ROBBED!"
O'Dell: "Last fight, Jenny O. That rum is waiting for you. Just hang in there. Thirty seconds to go in the second. Swan slippin' and dippin' now, lands a good flurry. Mitra fires back with a nice combination of her own. Not a lot in it for the second straight round. There's the bell. Close again. Swan."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Swan still all about the movement as we enter the third. She's actually doing a little jab and circle now, which is unusual for Serinda. Younger brunette so light on her feet for a woman her size. She's popping that jab, following on with right hands. Mitra now actually looking to cut ring here."
McCarthy: "See? This is what I'm TALKING about. Always better to be the quicker, more athletic girl!"
O'Dell: "Working for Swanny at the moment. She's all about the legs, moving more than we've ever seen her. Got that left going and landing. It's not the hard Front Street jab, though. More of a crisp, snappy one. Mitra taking a lot of those to the face as she tries to cut and close."
Tess: "Rhona just needs to get the geometry down. She's too good to get flummoxed like this."
O'Dell: "Twenty to go in the third, and it's been Swan's round from the first seconds. She's bouncing on the toes now, landing a sharp combination. Mitra covering up, then getting back to the work of stalking. Another solid combination from Swan and there's the bell. Serinda wide in the third."
Cassie: "29-28, Swan, but, Tess is right. Rhona will get this down."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins with Rhona stepping to now. Mitra no longer looking to work at range. Instead, she's cutting the angles and the ring by cutting distance. She's walking forward behind that left jab, finding Swan with it, then following on with right hands and, almost immediately, Serinda's on the back foot!"
Cassie: "If you don't like a fight like this, you just aren't a fan of good boxing. Two good veteran fighters adjusting on the fly. Great tactical stuff."
O'Dell: "And, right now, it's Rhona's adjustment that's working. Mitra's having her best round of the fight by far, throwing Serinda completely onto the defensive as we head into the final minute of the round. Swan getting touched up, backed up. She's not hurt, but she's taking heavy fire."
Tess: "This is good stuff from Rhona and shows how dangerous she can be. She's got a load of power and she's bringing it to bear."
O'Dell: "Twenty seconds to go in the fourth. Mitra's got Swan against the ropes now and she's letting the hands go! Again, Serinda not hurt, but she's getting suppressed right now by the hard, accurate fire from Rhona. Five seconds to go. GOOD right hand from Mitra and there's the bell. Rhona. Wide."
McCarthy: "Even again, this time at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "More pressure from Mitra to start the fifth. Rhona very aggressive, cutting the angles and distance, making with the heavy leather, forcing Swan to back and cover. Serinda working the counter now, scoring more than she did in the previous round, but still working mostly off the back foot."
Cassie: "Not a lot of lightweights can put a girl as physical as Swan there, but Rhona's done it."
O'Dell: "Indeed, she has. Moving past the halfway point of the round and Mitra in control despite Swan's best efforts to slow her down. Serinda not able to get off square at the moment and that's making all the difference. NICE combination Rhona and DOWN GOES MITRA! Swan dropped her with a right hand counter..."
McCarthy: "That was a NICE punch!"
O'Dell: "Timed it up, no question of that and sent Rhona to her rump. Swan to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Rhona to her feet at seven. Referee gives her the mandatory and ON COMES SERINDA. Swan now getting the big guns firing, backing up the Bazz girl with hard shot. Twenty seconds to go. Mitra covering up, hanging on as Swan bangs away. Rhona to the ropes now, but time is running out and there's the bell. Big round for Swan, but Mitra survives."
Tess: "48-46 Swan at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Swan out of the corner and after Mitra in a big way. She's letting the older fighter have it with both hands. Rhona still on shaky legs. She's giving ground, staying on the defensive, countering only in spots. Serinda aggressive, but soundly so. She knows the kind of power Rhona has..."
Cassie: "No doubt showing respect for it. Knows the same thing that happened to Rhona in the last round could happen to her."
O'Dell: "Serinda at range, working the left to set up the right, extending on everything, sitting down on everything, looking for the shot that can finish this thing and THERE'S A RIGHT HAND! Rhona wobbled but stays on her feet. Mitra covering up but DROPPED BY A RIGHT HOOK!"
McCarthy: "This might be over..."
O'Dell: "Rhona dropped flat to her back as Swan goes to a neutral corner. Mitra staring up at the referee as the count reaches three. Four. Five. Six. Rhona rolls to her belly at seven. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Mitra can't get off the deck and it's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is 'The Hottest Player In The Game', Serinda Swan!"
Tess: "Nice finish by Serinda, who remains right in the thick of that talented Front Street lightweight division."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore."
Tess: "I have our winner, Serinda Swan, and, Serinda, that was a tough fight in there."
Serinda (nodding): "Not a lot of lightweights who can hit like her. In fact, there are a lot of WELTERweights who don't hit like her. She's smart and athletic and really tough to deal with."
Tess: "But, you found a way."
Serinda (nodding): "It's what you have to do. You get in with a girl like her, she's not going to beat herself. She's going to make it hard on you. You have to find a way. I found one."
