TESS VALMORE
Once again it is time for our much ridiculed lightweight and welter rankings. Our rankings differ from those of my very good friend at Boxing world in several respects. We require activity. To be ranked a fighter must fight at least every third PPV or ninety days whichever is longer. We also take into consideration the competition a fighter has faced. To our way of thinking, winning streaks are meaningless unless the quality of competition is taken into consideration. A 3-2 record against top competitors is better than a 10-0 against third tier fighters. We do not take into consideration JMDD. Boxing World rankings do include JMDD
Boxing World also ranks fighters in more than one weight class. We do not. We only rate a fighter in the class in which she is most active. I bring this up because I saw a reference alleging a manager was pointing towards having one of his stable hold titles in both the lightweight and welters. Under the previous administration, holding titles in more than one weight class was not permitted. A fighter could only hold a title in one weight class. If a holder of a title was going to fight for title in another weight, she had to relinquish the title she held, before fighting for the second title. (5/4/2002 Theron/Brinkley an example). To my knowledge that rule has not been changed
LIGHTWEIGHTS
ADRIANNA LIMA Fought and won her fifth straight title defense on the September PPV
KATY PERRY Beat Gomes at the September Asylum. Needs to step in competition to stay at two
MIRANDA KERR Won her fifth straight in a August VS PPV
BROOKLYN DECKER Jumps back into the ranking all the way to four with wins over Kendall Jenner, Agdal and Rohrbach Fought in the September PPV
MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD Returned to her winning way in the September PPV beating Gonzales
KENDALL JENNER Moves up to six. She lost to Decker, but had big wins over Biel and Swift
GEMMA ARTERTON Beat Wagner at the August Asylum, but drops on quality of competition
ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO Stays in the top ten with wins over Delevingne and Ruah. Last fought in Mini PPV in September
SERINDA SWAN Remains in the top ten with her third straight win at the September Asylum. Competition is going to be a problem It’s a Front Street thing
YVONNE STRAHOVSKI Stays a ten, but must fight on the October PPV. She has lost three straight, but those losses were to three of the top five lightweights
WHO DROPPED OUT
ODETTE YUSTMAN Inactivity. Hope she returns to activity Lightweights need her (After I did the lightweight ranking’s Odette had a bout today with Tonkin which she won. I will leave the rankings as they are for the present)
ON THE CUSP
ALEXIS REN She’s 7-2 for the year. An increase in quality of opponents would help
LUISANA LOPILATO !0-3 for her career and 6-3 for the year. Like Ren better competition is needed
WELTERWEIGHTS
KATE UPTON She lost her title to Rhoda in the August PPV. Stuff happens. I think she is still at the top of the welter food chain
HILARY RHODA She is now 13-1 after her win over Law in the September PPV
HANNAH FERGUSON Picked up two more wins including one over Righetti
AMANDA RIGHETTI Lost to Ferguson then beat Gemma Atkinson
KARLIE KLOSS Now 10-3 after picking up wins against Michelle Ryan and Hunt
CASSIDY FREEMAN. Back in the top ten with her win over Michelle Ryan in the September PPV
KATRINA LAW Lost a title bout to Rhoda in the September PPV after beating Ryan
MICHELLE RYAN Drops from four after losing three straight albeit to top ten fighters
GEMMA ATKINSON. Drops to nine. Has now lost three straight after losing to Righetti in September. All her losses were to top ten opponents.
MANDY MOORE Won over Lawley in the August PPV. That was her third straight win
WHO DROPPED OUT
TAHNEE ATKINSON Shouldn’t have been in the rankings She mainly fights at JMDD.
Once again where is BRIDGET REGAN? A member of Bazz, she hasn’t fought since January. If Bazz isn’t going to schedule her, she needs to be released so someone else could pick her up. The welters could use her in the mix
