VICTORIA'S SECRET "WAR IN HEAVEN" TOURNAMENT: PRELIMINARIES ROUND 3

6. Gigi Hadid versus Irina Shayk

BEFORE:
Gigi Hadid proving her naysayers wrong the last time she was in the ring, knocking down a cocky Elsa Hosk when the Swede started running her mouth and insulting her credentials for not being ‘a true VS Angel’.

“Me and Kendall - we keep on getting all this slack like we don’t belong here, or that we’re not real models blah blah blah,” Gigi intoning at ring-side pre-fight. “Honey - I spanked your model ass last month, and tonight I plan to repeat this AMAZING feat with Shayk, just to shut the rest of you jealous b*tches up.”

Bold words from Hadid, who - it’s true - has had a rough time of late, with plenty of criticism thrown her way as to her other professional choices. But kudos to the tall and lanky blonde - she’s looking fit and much more spirited than last time, decked in VS baby pink, grey gloves to match, hair tied in loose braid.

Her opponent tonight is the legendary Irina Shayk, Russian model known for her killer looks that landed her spots one too many mags to count, but of course most memorably featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and of course, gracing the Victoria’s Secret runway. Her ring-work on the other hand not having the same levels of success, her recent joining of the revamped KHAOS 2.0 stable was meant to kickstart Irina’s career but results have still been sluggish.

“You saw the way I put away Monika…” Irina saying to the camera with a smirk. “I’m happy to get opportunities like this in the ring to show off what talents I have.”

Irina having tied up her brunette locks up in a fountain braid, elegantly flowing up the back of her head. She’s dressed in red/yellow bikini, similar to the one which landed her the SI cover girl spread all those glory years ago. Apart from the condescending looks both girls are giving each other when they meet in the center of the ring, no other altercations in the pre-fight ritual. Girls touch gloves with the lightest of ‘tap’s showing minimum respect. Referee rings the bell and here we go!

ROUND 1:
Here they come: measured and confidently at each other, holding arms in loose guard in clear signal they’re preferring to bang at each other in opening moments. And hell if we’re right - Irina shocking Gigi and the audience with a lightning right snap in the early seconds to the side of face, and then another and another punch lands clean, with Gigi stunned but also irritated, chastising herself for not seeing the faraway blows coming. Still, Hadid stays in range, tries to fire off her own jab jab jab, but Irina too alert and already anticipated counter-blows, brings guard up high just in time for Gigi to spank at forearms. Gigi tries transitioning south almost immediately, scores with a piercing one-two to the gut, but then gets her head ROCKED to one side with a powerful side-hook from Irina!! UGH. The blonde looking like she’s already in trouble as she goes staggering, the blow clean on the cheek. Irina thinks she’s disoriented and vulnerable - here comes the Russian, throwing more hooks up high, swinging for the fences. But Gigi far from over - she bobs and weaves backwards and sides, easily avoids Irina’s slow hands, then uses her feet to retreat out of range after spanking Shayk’s waistline some more. Gigi shaking her head, trying to to focus after that ringing blow, but she’s considered an elite fighter by some for a reason, starts firing back with measured uppercuts targeting Irina’s vulnerable chin each time the Russian takes a swing but misses. Irina suddenly the one in trouble: gets her jaw drubbed and rattled by surgical blows from Hadid - Irina’s head getting KNOCKED back once, but she still stubbornly advances on her foe - ANOTHER time Gigi’s left lands clean - Shayk wobbles but still refuses to back down… BLAM - THIRD TIME up the chin and Irina SIMPLY CRUMPLES!! SHAKY LEGS just collapse on her and DOWN SHE GOES!

FIRST ROUND KNOCKDOWN FROM HADID, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!! And what’s worse - Irina too rattled to get back up! She’s struggling to rise but doesn’t make it to her knees before the dizziness takes over and spins back down to all fours! IT’S F*CKING OVER IN THE THIRD MINUTE OF THE FIRST ROUND!


Official Decision: Gigi Hadid DESTROYS Irina Shayk via KO1!


AFTER:
Good LORD - what a finisher! I don’t think Gigi Hadid is registering the weight of her win just yet - she’s still standing hunched over, arms in guard, as though Shayk were about to spring back to life at any moment. Not so - clear from the medical staff swarming the Russian that they’re worried she’d suffered a concussion of sorts from those multiple head blows. Only moments later Hadid allows herself to celebrate - big grin distorting her face as she roars to the crowd with her impressive win tonight.

“I TOLD YA! I F*CKING TOLD YA!” Hadid laughing to reporters later on when she’s swarmed at ring-side. “Shayk was old news, so I’m not entirely surprised she went down so easily... Now Kloss - that’s a whole different ball game. Cross my fingers - maybe she’ll go down in Round 1 as well!” Gigi laughs as she heads back down the runway.

Shayk too distraught to speak to the cameras when she manages to recover herself. In fact, poor girl has to be carried out on a stretcher used to immobilise her head in case of serious injury, but doing so adds to her humiliation. She’s clearly muttering curses (or encouragement) to herself as she’s rolled back down the runway the same way she came, cameras capturing this low point in her career and of course the tears flowing down either side of her face as she tries to blink them away. Some soul-searching for the Russian stunner perhaps in order before her next foray in the ring.
