Katheryn: 39 YO, 5’4 (1.63 m), FCBA Debut, The Dollhouse
Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Before: Katheryn Winnick, best known for her starring role on the cable series “The Vikings” has stirred up much interest as she makes her FCBA Debut under the colors of the newest FCBA stable The Dollhouse.

“Don’t you think it is unusual for someone nearing 40 to be making her debut in the FCBA?” inquires one scribe at the pre-fight press conference. “I mean we haven’t even heard of you boxing in any independent feds.”

Katheryn just smiles: “It’s nice of you to be concerned about my age, but honestly, it is just a number. I am feeling very fit or I wouldn’t be doing it. I have been doing all sorts of fighting since I was a kid. Sure I’m late coming to boxing, but I learn fast and I am enjoying the sport. I will enjoy it even more when I have some wins under my belt. I am not here to play around. I am here to win the bantam title. I realize that means fighting top names and I appreciate Laura Vandervoort being willing to take me on. Not every veteran wants to take the chance of losing to a first-timer.”

Laura Vandervoort is seated at the same table as Katheryn, They each have their own microphone. She smiles slightly and says: “I don’t think of it as taking that big a risk. You can’t lean boxing overnight even if your trainer is Kristanna Loken. I hope that you learn some things in fighting me, Katheryn, mainly how much more you need to know before you can even think about a title shot.”

“I appreciate your advice, Laura,” Katheryn says, “I guess I will just have to muddle through my first bout and try not to embarrass myself or the Dollhouse.”

“That’s the attitude I like to hear in a rookie,” Laura says. “that way your first loss won’t come as such a shock.”

“Oh, I am prepared to lose, it’s part of the sport,” Katheryn said, “I am just not convinced I’ll be losing to you.”

Laura looks annoyed: “Then I have to convince you of that—the hard way.”

“Oh, I always prefer the ‘hard way’,” Katheryn says with a glint in her eye, “it’s much more interesting.”

“I will definitely do my best to keep you interested,” Laura says with an edge in her voice.

“Thank you, you are just too kind,” Katheryn said with an edge in her voice as well.

On the night of the PPV, Laura Vandervoort is in black sports bra and short black trues with white trim. She has black gloves and boots with white laces. Her hair is in a ponytail. Katheryn is in a white sports bra with black trim (the name WINNICK in white lettering along the lower black trim band), short white trunks with a black waistband. Her gloves and boots are white with black laces and the word VENUM on the punching edge of the gloves. Katheryn wears her hair in a ponytail. Brisk ring instructions. Katheryn looking a bit nervous, rookie butterflies perhaps, while Laura V is watching her warily. The instructions done, the referee dispatches the fighters to their corners and very shortly thereafter the bell rings. The fight is on!

R1: Katheryn showing no fear of the veteran goes after Laura with some nice feints to the head that end up stuffed in the blonde’s stomach. Laura backing away is then clouted on the side of the head and a quick straight right up the middle to bash her in the nose. Stung, Laura quickly tries to regroup, but Katheryn showing some nice footwork in cutting off the ring and then closing in on her quarry, Laura deploying her jab gives Katheryn some nice shots to the forehead and then down to smack her in the chest. Katheryn using footwork to try to work her away around Laura. Laura doing a better job of keeping up, but Katheryn’s working Laura’s ribs and then goes with some hooks to the stomach. Laura looking frustrated but can’t seem to land enough counters as the rookie cruises to wide win on the judges’ cards.

R2: Laura attacks quickly as the new round gets started. She is pressing Katheryn hard and pumping lefts and rights into her body as she moves forward. Katheryn giving ground at first but she’s trying to get her counters going. Close in action and neither fighter is backing down. Action now shifting to the head and here Laura is able to shake Katheryn for the first time with a solid right off the chin. Katheryn looks stunned and Laura clips the chin with the left. Katheryn falling back and Laura churning away to the body as now the newcomer’s sports bra comes under attack. Katheryn rallies late in the round and pays Laura back with some strong jugg bashing punches of her own. Laura retreats but comes back to rattle Katheryn once again with an uppercut to the chin. Katheryn falls back but she keeps her jab together to make the round close but the judges still give it to Laura Vandervoort.

R3: Katheryn and Laura waste to time going on the attack. Katheryn strikes first with a hard glancing right to the side of Laura’s head that sends a tremor through the veteran’s body. Laura drops back, but then circles to strike at Katheryn with a string right to the rookie’s jaw. Katheryn looking a little shaky, retreats, but then comes back and the two get into blistering exchange of shots to the body. Laura looking like she’s starting to feel those impacts from Katheryn’s leather and she is being forced back. Then Katheryn finds Laura’s chin with a quick right uppercut and Laura is rapidly retreating now. Katheryn in pursuit, keeping up the pressure, but then Laura stabilizes behind her jab and Katheryn can’t break through as the bell sounds. Another close round, but this time the winner is Katheryn Winnick.

R4: Katheryn again aggressive, but Laura Vandervoort letting her come in and the steps coolly one brings a smashing right to the rookie’s jaw. Head swivel, Katheryn and she lurches to one side with Laura moving to cut her off. Laura getting in strong punches to slice into Katheryn’s face and sending her falling back in disorder. Laura moving confidently to herd the rookie to the ropes, but Katheryn now quick to clinch and buy herself some time. Even so, Laura quickly resumes her attack to the head until Laura is able to block it with her high guard and evasive upper body movement. Laura smoothly shifts the attack to Katheryn’s midsection. She’s really pounding the flesh just above the waistband of the rookie’s trunks as though trying to break down her abs, Katheryn grimacing under the punching pressure, but she finally starts flicking out the counters late to sting Laura in the eyebrows and forehead. Not enough to keep Laura from winning the round wide, but enough to show Katheryn’s far from beaten down.

R5: Laura now on the attack with the evident intent of taking the stubborn rookie down. Laura trying to use feints and quick moves to get in unexpected punches to the head. Katheryn takes the first couple of these and then seems to adjust. Laura finds the tables reversed as she finds Katheryn hard to hit and, worse, she’s striking back with unexpected moves of her own. Still back and forth action, very even most of the way, but Laura’s offensive sputters out late as Katheryn then goes on the attack, Katheryn striking hard to the body pounding Laura’s ribs and stomach to send Laura falling back behind a desperate jab that just manages to hold Kathryn off to the bell. Judges find the round was close with Katheryn late surge winning the stanza for her. Laura not looking so good as she makes her way back to her corner. Katheryn looking very determined as she heads for her own corner.

R6: Laura Vandervoort is looking hurt as she comes out this round. She is hunched up protectively around her battered midsection and she seems more interested in keeping away from Katheryn than being drawn into another blazing punch fest. Katheryn remains cool and stalks her wounded prey with impressive skills, She is circling, then going in and launching a punch flurry that is working Laura to the body and making the veteran shudder with each new punch landing, Laura looking forlorn as she tries to hold Katheryn off, but then she finds herself being herded back into the ropes, Laura desperately strikes at Katheryn’s head, trying to fight her way clear, but Katheryn taking the blows and giving them right back to Laura’s body. Laura’s butt hits the ropes and before she can start huddling—Katheryn strikes again with a withering flurry to the stomach and ribs. Laura gives a shudder and she sags to her knees, arms wrapped around her middle. Then Laura gives a gurgle of pain and falls onto her side under the bottom rope. She lies there groaning as Katheryn calmly goes to the neutral corner and the referee moves in to count. Laura grasps the bottom rope and tries to pull herself up, but she shudders again and collapses back under the ropes as the count goes passed “TEN!”
It’s over.
THE WINNER: KATHERYN WINNICK DEFEATS LAURA VANDERVOORT KO6!

After: “Laura is tough, but I could tell my body punches were breaking her down. It was just a matter to maintaining enough pressure until I had her beaten to the body,” Katheryn later explains to the press. “I will be the first to admit I am still learning, but I think this fight proves I am catching on fast. I can’t wait for my next fight! I also want to thank The Dollhouse’s boss Carmen Electra for signing m in the first place. I also want to thank our trainer Kristanna Loken. She’s been great with me and I look forward to a very successful boxing career under the Dollhouse banner.”

A battered Laura Vandervoort, now sporting bandages around her waist meets the press. “She did a real number on my ribs—no they aren’t broken, but they are badly bruised. I may be eating liquid foods for a couple of days as well, but mostly I am dismayed that a rookie of her age and experience level could beat me down like that. She’s a serious contender. Mark my words, You have not heard the last of Katheryn Winnick in the bantam division."

Impressive outing for the newcomer Katheryn Winnick., Apparently, for her, age IS just a number. Katheryn showed she could take punishment and dish it out enough to take out a tough veteran in Laura Vandervoort. Of course, the question is now how she follows up on her first win. It seems likely she will be facing more highly ranked opponents who will put her to the test. Meanwhile, Laura Vandervoort finds herself again regrouping and looking to get back on the winning track.
