BEFORE:
"It's a little upsetting that people write me off," says Lis with a shake of the head. "No, I'm not 20 anymore, but, the truth is, I'm in better shape now than I was then, and I'm a MUCH better fighter."
"Rohm is, technically, pretty much as good as it gets in the FCBA," says Katy with a nod. "Now, she doesn't have MY kind of power, but, in this division, no one does. She's no walk in the park, but I'm a tiger crawl through a swamp."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyrie', and, if the FCBA HAS a Valkyrie, she's coming to ringside right now, blonde, beautiful Elisabeth Rohm!"
Cassie: "ROHM-MY! ROHM-MY! ROHM-MY!"
Tess: "Lis fits in with the 'Scream Queen' theme after her star turn in this year's horror film 'Wish Upon'..."
McCarthy: "And, she may NOT be 20 anymore, but, as I always say, age ain't nothin' but a number..."
O'Dell: "And, Rohm proving THAT as she's helped off with the robe to reveal that sea foam green number and a body the envy of girls half her age. And, that's 'California Gurls' you hear pounding through the arena, and that means 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry is on her way to the ring..."
Tess: "We're about to have a lightweight title fight, and Perry is right in the middle of that title picture. She needs a win tonight to stay there."
O'Dell: "Katy down the aisle and into the ring. Helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that red two piece we've seen before, and, as always, the fans loving the view..."
McCarthy: "Again. Philly. Low standards."
O'Dell: "Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess favors Katy. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Nothin' but a number. Rohm's due and I think she pulls the upset!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I NEVER pick against Rohmmy!"
O'Dell: "Here we go. Both ladies going to go gun-platform early, and that's no surprise, because both fighters are very, very comfortable there. Going to work the long left hands, use them to set up the rights. Feet moving, angling, lots of technical boxing right here, and, while Perry is good at this, there aren't many as good as Rohm..."
Tess: "I can remember a day when Perry couldn't do this AT ALL."
O'Dell: "No question about it, and it took her developing the ability to box to become a champion. Before then, when she was a brawler, she was just a hard-hitter with a puncher's chance. That's all changed. She's giving as good as she gets right now with one of the slicker boxers in the FCBA."
Cassie: "And, the smartest lightweight in the FCBA. In fact, she's pretty close to the smartest FIGHTER in the FCBA."
Tess: "Present company excluded..."
Cassie: "Obviously."
McCarthy: "I just threw up in my mouth a little..."
O'Dell: "Final seconds of a nip-and-tuck first round. Not a lot in it, frankly, but plenty of good stuff to watch, as the fighters slip and dip, jab and move, work to create openings for the heavy right hands. Not many punches being put together right now, but that will likely come. For now, there's the bell. Close. Perry."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Right back to work at range to start the second. Perry using that heavy 'Front Street Jab' quite a bit in this one. And, again, we all remember when she didn't use the left nearly enough. Tonight, she's double and even triple tapping it. For her part, Rohm still moves plenty well..."
Cassie: "Rohmmy is in TERRIFIC shape, like ALL Bazz girls. She can hit that hill just like the rest of us."
Tess: "And, allow me to testify personally. That thing is BRUTAL."
O'Dell: "Lis with a ton of head and shoulder movement, making herself hard to find. She's looking to create misses, which, in turn, create openings for her own offense. Rohm adopting a bit of a counter-puncher mentality in this stanza and it's working for her. Still two-way stuff, but Rohm getting a bit more done this time around."
McCarthy: "Rohm IS a smart fighter, and you can see that with the little adjustments she's making. She's got a girl who, physically, is younger and stronger, but she's got a good plan to handle that."
O'Dell: "Final twenty seconds of another competitive round. Rohm a nice combination! Best of the fight so far and Perry fires back with one of her own! Good exchange follows! Best action of the fight down the stretch in this one and there's the bell. Close again. This time to Rohm."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Looks like we've settled in at range. Both fighters appear to like these terms, and it doesn't look like either has much interest in making a change. It's all about geometry and movement as the two fighters move the feet, head, and hands, work the left hands, try to create openings for the rights."
Cassie: "You can show this video to a young lightweight as an example of the way to box, the way to set up your punches."
O'Dell: "No question we're seeing an excellent example of the sweet science right now, from both blonde and brunette, and, for the third consecutive round, it's good, two-way stuff with neither fighter able to gain any control. Instead, it's back and forth, as both blonde and brunette get some leather home."
McCarthy: "And, that's a good point, Jenny. It's not like we aren't seeing plenty of action here. We are. It's just that both fighters are scoring well and neither's creating any separation."
O'Dell: "That's a pretty solid synopsis of where we find ourselves as we roll into the stretch in the third. We've got thirty seconds to go and we're seeing some of those sharp exchanges we saw in the last round, Both fighters know the points are there for the taking and both working hard to get them. Bell. Nothing in it at all. Draw."
Tess: "And, we're still even, this time at 29, after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Back to work on the gun platforms. Very even stuff so far, and nothing changing now. Good, back and forth boxing. Plenty of movement from both fighters. Head, hands, shoulders, feet. All about angles and distance right now as the fighters work their angles, probe defenses, look to create openings."
Cassie: "Both fighters staying busy. Working hard."
O'Dell: "No question about that, and, you'd think a hard, steady pace would favor the younger Perry, but then you remember that Rohm is in terrific shape and she fights for Bazz, and no stable in the FCBA has their girls in better shape than Bazz. Good combination Rohm and DOWN SHE GOES!"
Tess: "Wow..."
O'Dell: "Perry countered that combination with an absolutely BOOMING right hand and Lis dropped on her right side. Perry to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Rohm rolling to her belly. Can't believe she's even MOVING after that. Seven. Eight. Blonde to her hands and knees. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Lis can't beat the count and it's OVER! And your winner by KO4 in one-punch fashion is 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry!"
McCarthy: "Lucky punch!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Katy Perry, and, Katy, Mac called that last punch 'lucky'..."
Katy: "Well. Mac is an IDIOT. But, she's half right on this one. I mean, she's difficult to hit let alone hit clean. She's great on defense and doesn't give you much to get leather on. There wasn't much of an opening for that one. Just enough. And I got it there."
Tess: "And, there wasn't any doubt when you did..."
Katy (shaking her head): "Oh, no. When I land that right clean like that, it's over. I don't care who you are, you aren't getting up. It's over."
