Elisabetta Canalis vs Alaina Huffman

BEFORE: We have another international contest up next as former Latin Union stalwart Elisabetta Canalis takes on fellow veteran Alaina Huffman. Canalis remains an associate of the Latin Unioners and vows to dazzle the Cardiff Arena audience on her BBU return tonight. Sh's spend the past couple of years back in America but wins have come at a premium there and she's no longer even considered the top Italian lightweight prospect with the arrival of the likes of Elisabetta Gregoraci and Melissa Satta.

On the other hand Alaina Huffman's status as Team Canada's leader also remains under pressure to say the very least. The blonde veteran has survived the 2016 roster shake-up but Georgie Thompson reckons Jessica Lucas and Sarah Gadon will now lead the franchise in exposure value and Huffman will take a backseat to the new wave of Canadian talent. However she can always spoil another veteran's party and this particular match-up is wide open on the betting scales.

Elisabetta Canalis wears a red sports bra, white knickers and black gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Alaina Huffman wears a silver basque top, black hotpants and red gloves. Shoulder lenght blonde hair straight. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.

Rounds 1 & 2:
Both these veterans prefer to take it easy during the early stages of the fight even though Canalis looks a little more committed to her attacks and throws superior number of punches while Alaina stands tall on her feet and shows minimal concern about the Italian rocking her with a wayward strike. It's almost like she tries to outsmart the model or perhaps lure her into a suicidal attack however the some rust to be shaken off here and the hot-blooded Mediterranean temper remains under wraps during the opening couple of rounds. The Cardiff Arena awaits a proper injection of pace here but for now the Welsh audience is forced to be satisified with a steady if ineffective single-hand jabbing rush from Canalis and Huffman's stubborn guard that admittedly hasn't been tested much.

Round 3:
Surprisingly it's the blonde who makes the early move as she clatters into the Italian's body after faking an overhand approach and she staggers the older foe in the center of the ring while scoring meaningful punches to the soft tissue. Ugh! Elisabetta fails to maintain her balance and basically stumbles to the side but Alaina is right there with a vicious left cross on the chin that drops the TV showgirl back to the ropes. Elisabetta tries to swing one against the incoming Canadian but bounces off the top of her shoulder and eats a left/right combo on the lips that immediately makes her wince in pain. And Huffman's all over her within a blink of an eye snapping the dark ponytail back & forth. Ugh! Alaina has truly trapped her opponent in the corner and bashes her way into a commanding position with Canalis drifting into a moaning struggle and even unable to clinch her to earn some respite. The swelling on the Italian's lips is significant come the final minute but the Canadian veteran only adds to her rival's misery and intends to knock her head off according to Georgie Thompson. Team Canada's head trainer Amanda Tapping leads the support from the corner and Alaina reigns supreme until the bell leaving the TV showgirl gasping for air and looking very hittable - very much against the odds.

Round 4:
Canalis comes out of her stool like the writing's on the wall already but she struggles to connect with her aerial punches and only skims off the blonde's guard while getting nailed on the response. Alaina moves into close range and outworks the model during the opening minute which leads into the Italian seeking respite in desperate defensive circles. However she eats several single-handed attacks and wobbles back to the ropes where Huffman for once misses her approach and allows the embattled brunette to WHACK her with a wild left cross on the nose. Another low hook almost catches the blonde's groin but she survives the close call and lands a crossing hook on the mouth herself. Both these cougars suddenly brawl it out along the ropes with Canalis getting a little vocal and she manages to squash Huffman's lips during a frantic leather bash that finally gets the Cardiff audience going. It's a war of attrition in the dying seconds and Alaina's knees crumble a bit under the pressure which enables Elisabetta to punch her back to center of the ring and sign off a promising recovery mission with a belting hook on the liver area.

Round 5:
Alaina squares up to her opponent with another jabbing rush but Elisabetta's fully in the groove now and withstands the initial attack to tackle the Canadian to the body which exposes the suspicious defence during the opening minute. Huffman refuses to yield an inch here but drops to her heels when the TV showgirl leans onto her and delivers more solid strikes on the midsection. The yelps are getting louder and they mostly come from the blonde now who's forced to fight on the Italian's terms and can't inflict further damage on the swollen lips. Elisabetta almost head-butts her as she thrives on the body assault but still bumps her towards the ropes and ducks underneath a hooking strike to pierce the belly button with a quick one-two harpoon delivery. Ugh! Huffman yells out and trembles forward against the brunette's shoulder which allows Canalis to bury repeated hooks into the exposed tummy over and over again AS THE BLONDES SLIDES DOWN ON HER KNEES!!! That's a shocking development for the entire Team Canada and Alaina is visibly out of breath as she gets up at seven. However Elisabetta doesn't let her off the hook and slams a left cross followed by another right to burst the blonde's nostrils into a bloody mess right at the bell! Huffman slides down on her stool and looks over at her opponent with utmost disbelief and even Georgie Thompson sounds stunned up in the booth!

Round 6:
Alaina's bloody nose has been patched up but the proud blonde remains affected by the the Italian's comeback and she gets wrapped into another head-hunting ordeal literally seconds into the sixth. Elisabetta's eyes glare with nothing but lethal determination and she renders the Canadian actress completely immobile come the one minute mark simply lashing out from both sides and tearing bruises on her otherwise pretty face. That's the Mediterranean wrath BBU fanbase has learned to cherish even though the 'other' Elisabetta has mastered it over the past 24 months. Still, Canalis' furious leather rush knocks Huffman into stupor and when the blonde's gloves slide by her breasts, it's merciless easy pickings' time that shuts the blonde down for good... DOWN SHE GOES JACK-KNIFE STYLE ON THE BOARDS and coach Tapping throws in the towel since there's more blood coming from Alaina's busted up nose now. TKO6 Elisabetta Canalis!!!

AFTER: That was downright cruel finish to a fight of two halves, both women took their time before unloading on offense and Alaina was the first one to hit through but crumbled into a bloody mess when Elisabetta's hot-blooded aggression proved superior. Georgie Thompson believes it's a sign that Huffman's days as Team Canada's leader are numbered and coach Tapping might as well focus on guiding Jessica Lucas into future stardom with former champion Erica Cerra possibly acting as the lead blocker to clear the path for a proper Canadian challenge at the bantamweight straps.

On the other hand Canalis finds herself in a very crowded Italian contenders' pool and neither Melissa Satta nor Elisabetta Gregoraci could feel threatened much by the Sardinia-born model's performance tonight. If Huffman was a little more ruthless she could have knocked Canalis out as early as the fourth round according to Georgie Thompson.
