BBU Welterweight Title Jourdan Dunn vs Joan Smalls (Beever's Babes vs Girls Friday) (6-0, 6 KO vs 5-0, 5 KO) Results: BBU; Story: Vassago
Before: Its been long time coming but the vacant BBU welterweight throne will be finally occupied again. Since Erika Heynatz's then-record breaking run came to a premature end in March 2015 when the Aussie veteran decided to set off into semi-retirement several highly-touted prospects have emerged and tonight we witness the climax of the welterweight sweepstakes. Joan Smalls and Jourdan Dunn are the last two women standing and to make matters even more interesting, we just don't have a genuine betting favorite between them. That was perhaps the whole idea of the divisional title tournament that kicked off mid-way through 2016 but according to BBU TV's Denise van Outen it was all worth the wait! Let's go down ringside to meet the two combatants!
Jourdan Dunn wears a red bikini set and silver gloves. Long dark brown hair loose and straight. Joan Smalls wears a navy blue bikini set and white gloves. Long dark brown hair loose and straight. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1: Both women approach this fight carefully but eventually they begin to stalk each other with a steady leather rush that leads into a hectic dust-up in the center of the ring. Joan lands the early punches from both sides more efficiently but Joan leans on her and almost lands a knee to her crotch before ducking the high assault and thumping the younger brunette on the jaw. Dunn wobbles badly sagging a little on her knees and the Puerto Rican adds a flurry of strikes over the top to bend the English girl to the side and sink her on the ropes with a belting hook on the liver area. The title prospects are very much real and Dunn begins to realize that only after she swallows that late punch and looks stunned how much power Joan can actually apply.
Round 2: Joan's uptempo approach overwhelms the English brunette and an epic battle in the middle of the ring has the Puerto Rican on top when she smacks her foe's brow ridge and thumps her back on the heels. Smalls screams out while delivering the leather rush and Dunn has to seek an escape route but still gets caught with a swinging pursuit and reels onto the ropes where the older brunette rips into her guts and keeps plugging along until the aching Jourdan can finally clinch her. The desperate effort to tame the raging Puerto Rican succeeds and prevents more damage but Joan complains to the ref about the shutdown tactics and openly mocks her opponent thereafter. The Beevers; head coach Denise Lewis looks on unimpressed!
Round 3: Jourdan tries to see out the Puerto Rican rage but gets clipped in mid-distance frequently and allthough she displays superior footwork which keeps her safe for a while this is not what the Cardiff crowd expected to see at all. Smalls calms herself down after a couple of angry scowls and wants to outmanouver the English girl while throwing harpoons over the top. She can't quite find her stride in this stance though and allows Jourdan to thrive in the counterpunching effort however the lack of a serious striking power overshadows the duck & weave tactics and makes some fans jeer at the half-hearted action. Jourdan looks happy to avoid Smalls' punishing presence and even smiles back to her entourage while the Beevers camp ponders if they did the right thing allowing the fellow model to catch a breather?
Round 4: Joan decides she just has to attack the younger brunette in order to break her resilience. She clocks Dunn with a speedy left/right combo and before the English model can respond, adds a piercing uppercut on the chin that dumps the Beevers brunette on her heels. Jourdan squeals in pain but still wants to jump into a proper response yet she's too slow for the raging Puerto Rican who nails her with a left cross hook on the brow ridge before adding a right hand on the solar plexus. Dunn bends forward amid more yelps but she can't lock a clinch anymore and when she lifts her head again, Joan homes in another uppercut that almost puts the English babe out to the orbit... DUNN CRASHES DOWN ON HER BACK and that was a massive piledriver that caught her unawares... Supreme punching power on display but the Cardiff crowd remains stunned over the fast tempo execution... Jourdan recovers upright at seven but remains misty in the eyes and Joan blasts her upstairs with a rain of strikes to maul the pretty face in various spots and slump the proud chin between the shoulder. The Beevers babe is reduced into a punchbag mode and only the bell saves her from a looming disaster.
Round 5: Can Jourdan recover from the epic collapse in the previous round? The answer is "no" since Joan smells the title belt wrapped around her waist already and riffles through her guard to resume the head snapping galore before dumping the English glamour model on the ropes with eyes closed.... nothing comes back from Jourdan anymore who accepts her fate as Joan clobbers her face raw and makes her scream out.... the arms go numb by the side and a piercing left hook clubs her on the ear for the final act of the demolition show... DUNN GOES DOWN and crashes on her left side being ignorant to the count... KO5 and the NEW BBU Welterweight Champion Joan Smalls!!!
After: The Girls Friday entourage errupts in joy with coach Lauren Berlingeri leading the applause. Joan stands tall over the fallen English model and is more than ready to accept the belts next! There's no Erika Heynatz present but BBU Hall of Famer Sabrina Washington conducts the ceremony instead. She does look a bit uneasy as she'd like to crown the Beevers' stablemate here but she doesn't have any choice. Joan smiles back to the cameras and claims the Girls Friday have taken over the BBU as top fighting stable now yet questions about her first title defense begin to mount already. Petra Nemcova is labelled as the obvious choice and Denise van Outen believes we'll hear more about that challenge sooner rather than later!
Final result: Joan Smalls def. Jourdan Dunn KO5.
