St. Patrick's Day Boxing Special from Dublin Martha Hunt vs Vogue Williams (0-1 vs 1-0, 1 KO) Results: BBU; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: On a day when the rugby national team secured the Six Nations Grand Slam by beating arch-rivals England in their own Twickenham backyard, things simply couldn't get any better for the Irish faithful, right? That's unless Vogue Williams puts the icing on the cake by defeating a formidable Victoria's Secret veteran Martha Hunt in the Dublin Docklands next.
We're live inside the 3Arena where Laura Whitmore brings you the exclusive coverage from St. Patrick's Day Boxing Special and while Laura would love to be out there in the ring, she enjoyed that honor last year already so it's Vogue's turn to steal the Irish hearts now.
Martha Hunt does have Irish ancestry on her paternal side so she's not exactly a complete outsider despite being born in North Carolina. This is more like Old World meets New World and while the Victoria's Secret gig makes Hunt the top billed fighter (and a slight betting favorite), the Dublin crowd knows better whom they should support tonight!
Martha Hunt wears a white bikini set with green trim and black gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a loose ponytail. Vogue Williams wears a green bikini top, white knickers and green gloves. Dyed light brown hair straight, tucked behind the ears. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1: Vogue feels the crowd support behind her and jumps into a quick pouncing effort but Martha's hungry for some action herself and responds in equally offensive manner which leads into an extended slugging exchange in the center of the ring. Both women really give each other no quarter but Martha finds more success as she tags the older model across the nose and wobbles her on the back foot. She beats Williams for another overhand rally and begins to bully her around the ring. She has to rely on single punches down the stretch as Vogue backs out of any aggressive ideas and circles away into safety. This means the pace of the fight significantly drops but both women look happy enough to spend the final seconds in a classic eye-balling stalemate.
Round 2: Vogue jumps into another trigger-happy approach and outworks Martha in a close range tussle but eventually gets whacked on the body which enables the American to rally back into contention. It's almost like the blonde is happy to see out the expected Williams charge and the risk pays off since she avoids significant damage while working Vogie to the body during the second minute. This time the Dublin native fails to escape the heat and gets pounded back to the ropes with Hunt wrecking havoc around her midsection. Ugh! Williams has to clinch the younger model but remains trapped on the ropes for remainder of the round and Martha duly cleans out her tummy to further underline her dominance.
Round 3: Martha becomes more aggressive following that previous round and blasts Vogue upstairs for another quick switch of targets. The Dublin model gives nothing away in size to the Victoria's Secret bunny but is simply too slow in execution according to Laura Whitmore and that allows the Yankee tourist to dominate another close range exchange. In fact, Vogue gets tackled to the ropes all too easily again and has to clinch the blonde in order to survive the onslaught without serious damage. Martha leans on her and begins to squeal in determination to turn the older girl's midriff into a mush but Williams' desperate clinch prevents her from doing so. Moreover the referee sides with the local favorite and doesn't break the stalemate fast enough for Hunt to mount another run at the otherwise subdued opponent.
Round 4: Vogue really wants to stick it into the blonde's face but struggles to match her intensity and gets crippled when Hunt delivers a nasty blow to the liver area. This time the Irish faithful can't escape into another clinch as she gets NAILED with a vicious uppercut on the jaw that sends her into a complete tail-spin. She effectively rolls down the windows here and Martha is right there with a brutal left/right combo that lands on the mouth DROPPING THE LOCAL FAVORITE ON HER BUM!!! That really takes the sting out of 3Arena for a brief second and even Laura Whitmore loses her voice in the booth. Meanwhile Martha makes instant gestures towards the fallen opponent and had to be shoved back by the ref. However it's not all over here for Williams who scampers back upright at seven and vows to make the American pay for this offense! Both women leap forward but Martha inflicts more damage on the older model's lips and knocks head head back repeatedly before stacking her up to the body and trapping her on the ropes. There are visible bruises on Vogue's ribcage at the bell but the Dublin native still issues a vocal tirade at the uber-confident American before turning back to her corner.
Round 5: Have we opened the grudge chapter here? Laura Whitmore thinks tempers are about to boil over as Vogue's determined to regain her pride and looks fresh enough to avoid getting blitzed by the visibly confident blonde. This is welterweight after all so caution is advised but there's no room for hanging back anymore and Williams ducks underneath a swinging approach and before Martha can clatter into her breadbasket again, she slams a right cross followed by another hook on the brow ridge that tears a bloody patch and wobbles Hunt to the side. Ugh! Vogue hauls in another piledriver in quick pursuit and bends Martha backwards to the point her arms drop by her side and allow the local favorite to cash in with a flurry of facial misery. It's time for Hunt to taste pain as she gets pummelled to the ropes while groaning her heart out. Vogue channels her inner wrath and just wades in on speed dial to dissect the younger model's guard and she keeps her pinned butt-in-ropes which only fuels the crowd's reactions. She also swings to the body and pierces the blonde's belly button to bend her forward into another brutal uppercut on the exposed jaw. Ugh! Martha signs off the round on jelly knees and doesn't look her opponent in the eye anymore while Vogue raises her glove and screams out in delight.
Round 6: Martha tries to recover from that poor showing in the sixth however Vogue's very much in the groove now and outworks the American in close range before thumping her on the midsection to really stall her movements. Laura Whitmore believes this was the missing piece of the puzzle to keep Hunt under pressure but one shouldn't be harsh on the Dublin model whose experience is very limited at this level. She carves through Martha's midriff in high--octane fashion during the opening minute while fending off a sluggish reply over the top. Another quick hook then finds the chin and sinks the tourist on soft knees before a follow-up cross SLAMS HUNT ON THE NOSE and sends her packing to the canvas!!! The welter power supply does the trick and the Victoria's Secret angel makes a far less convincing recovery than Williams had made in the fourth. She's up at eight but remains on visibly soft knees and the Dublin model glues her to the spot when she rips through her guard to resume the head-hunting drill. Oh my, Martha begins to gurgle in spasms as she gets DESTROYED on the ropes and leans over them while whimpering her troubles. Vogue checks down and rips a harpoon through her solar plexus which folds the proud American into a tearful mess. Another hook to the boobs SENDS THE VS ANGEL CRASHING DOWN ONTO HER KNEES and the ref waves the fight off as Martha slumps against the turnbuckle with eyes closed and looks to be wrecked beyond repair! KO6 Vogue Williams!!!
AFTER: Following the Six Nations' Grand Slam the Irish folk adds the icing on the cake courtesy of Dublin's very own Vogue Williams! And she did it the hard way rising from the knockdown ashes to thump a dangerous opponent to the floor! Martha remains slumped with eyes closed in the corner while Vogue climbs the ropes and dwells on the rampant ovation from the 3Arena audience. Laura Whitmore isn't quite sure whether Vogue is actually the country's top welterweight prospect with Rozanna Purcell also available but that's for another day to discuss. It's Vogue's day on St. Patrick's Day and she's made the entire nation extremely proud indeed! Una Healy remains the only Irish BBU champion to date but that could change sooner rather than later if Williams and Purcell keep pushing each other on the elite path going forward!
Final result: Vogue Williams def. Martha Hunt KO6.
