Intro: Tonight in the First Direct Arena in Leeds sees the debut of Helen Skelton in the BBU, she is facing Louise Redknapp who is looking to build her singing career and her BBU career up. Helen is 34 years old; stands 5'2 and comes from Carlisle, she has an amateur record of 1 win from her Sport Relief bout against Camilla Thurlow. Louise is 43 years old, she stands 5'4, coming from Lewisham, she holds a record of 0 wins in 7 attempts.
The fighters were interviewed separately at their gyms, with Helen looking all smiles as she chats away with the journalists. "I have to be totally honest, I was offered to join the BBU a few years ago but I didn't see myself as a fighter, but when charity is involved, I am happy to do anything for charity so I signed up to fight and Camilla was such a great opponent, I gave her such a big hug afterwards" she says before remembering about the BBU fight she is going to have. "Well I loved it and I was approached again by the BBU so said yes, I feel I have the basics down, only thing is I've had to learn how to take a punch without a head guard, certainly not so fun but I can take it" she adds; jokingly tapping her chin with her fist and winking. "I have met Louise before and while we were friendly then, I know that she is going to give her all to beat me, I feel confident though and know that this is where my career truly begins, with Louise knocked out if I need to" finishes up Helen. While Louise looks more serious, saying "I don't get why people were so impressed by Helen in that fight? She fought a nobody and suddenly Helen is the second coming of Muhammad Ali or something? What a joke" Adding "I know Helen from awards shows, so I'll tell you the facts, yes she is fit I won't bullshit on that, though I'm fitter, her biggest weakness though is she is soft!" Laughing as she finishes with "I can't wait to see you guys cry when she is flat on her face" before she gets up and off to train.
Fight night; the crowd cheers the ever popular Helen as she comes out with her coach, a big smile on her face as she waves and jogs to the ring. She is wearing a red sports bra, white trunks with "hell raiser" in red letters on her waistband, white gloves and red shoes, her blonde hair is braided. Stepping into the ring; Helen jogs to her corner looking excited as she warms up, her coach drilling her as he reminds her "this is the big leagues kid" Now out comes Louise; her demeanor is the opposite of Helen's, walking down to the ring with a sneering look as she stares into the ring. She is wearing a blue sports bra, with matching trunks with white strips down the sides, white gloves and boots, her own blonde hair is in a ponytail. Climbing into the ring, she turns her back on Helen as she flexes her arms to the crowd, before turning to face her opponent with a nasty look.
Both are brought to the ring centre; Helen looking serious now as they stare each other down, Louise tells her "I hope you are not too soft for me" with Helen just smirking in reply. Asked to touch gloves; they quickly swipe gloves together and jog back to their corners, ready to start 10 rounds of flyweight action.
Round 1: Out come the fighters with both working behind their jabs early; Louise taking the crisper punches as Helen looks to have the technical advantage between them. Louise seeing this tries to make things more scruffy with her little shoves to disrupt Helen's technique, allowing her to start landing with her right more cleanly as she works Helen towards the ropes. But Helen dances out of trouble, nodding at Louise as looks to charge her, this time Helen more prepared for the attack, moving around Redknapp and countering her with jabs and straights. The younger fighter outmanoeuvring Louise, landing the clear punches as she bobs and weaves around Louise, who starts trying to swing more power punches in response. Helen dips under a right hook and lands a right on the chin of Louise, followed by a left cross that knocks Louise on her heels. Skelton showing her own aggressive side as she bullies Louise onto the ropes, the singer covering up as Helen starts beating her body. Till Louise clinches up with Helen, where she tries to grapple with Helen, which only leads to her being shoved back onto the ropes. They are pried apart by the referee, where Louise tries to get at Helen but again only finds air as Helen uses a shoulder roll to dodge and lands a right across the chin of Louise to knock her back. The bell rings before Helen can push on her advantage, that smile returns to her face as she returns to her corner, knowing she is off to a great start. While Louise stomps back to her corner; knowing she needs to make this into a brawl to have any chance to win this fight.
Round 2: Louise looking to push forwards quickly, Helen expecting it focuses on dodging the early onslaught coming her way, showing great flexibility to make Louise miss. More desperate looking punches sail over Helen's head and she comes up with an uppercut that rocks Louise back. Helen landing more punches to the face of Louise, knocking her back onto the ropes, where Louise tries to fight back but her punches are not doing much to dissuade her opponent. A RIGHT HOOK PUTS LOUISE DOWN TO A KNEE HOLDING THE MIDDLE ROPE WITH HER RIGHT TO STOP HER FALLING FURTHER! The count begins 1..2....3....4 Louise shakes her head, trying to clear her head 5...6...7..8 pushing herself up, she beats the count but looks shaky. The fight is allowed to continue with Helen straight on the attack with a right smacking Louise across her cheek to back her up again. A FLURRY OF PUNCHES SMACKS LOUISE ACROSS HER FACE; WITH A RIGHT HOOK KNOCKING LOUISE TO HER SIDE! The referee begins counting 1...2...3 Louise rolls to her back with her eyes shut 4....5....6...7 Louise not moving as Helen looks ready to get back at her 8....9....10 Louise is counted out!
Winner Helen Skelton KO Round 2
After: Helen starts her BBU career off with a bang; she looks a little stunned as she looks at the crowd all chanting her name, looking down at Louise before she raises her arms and smiles to her adoring fans. This result was expected but maybe not how fluid she would be in the ring though, looking even better then she did in her fight against Camilla, her training clearly paying off. As soon as Louise starts to try and drag herself up; Helen shows her other side as she rushes over to help her former opponent stand up. Louise doesn't look too happy to be helped up by the woman who put her down, she still gives Helen a mumbled "thank you" before her coach comes to help her out the ring and up to the back. Helen gets her arm raised by the referee, startling her at first which makes her laugh, she jumps up and down excited at her first win. Jogging over to her coach, she gives him a hug and a big thank you for helping her train for this fight, if she still had any doubts on the sport, tonight seems to have got rid of them. The question though is when she steps up in class; will Louise be proven right and Helen turns out to be soft? It is hard to say but technically, she has one hell of a base to work from it seems.
