BEFORE:
"Sure," says Jeri with a nod, "Perry's good and physical and she's a champion. Well. I've been a champion NINE times at two different weights, and anyone who thinks I'm past it should ask Govich what SHE thinks."
"Jeri's still the kind of girl you want to measure yourself against," says Katy. "Our first fight was a war, and this won't be any different. And, I'm looking forward to this one even more than the first one."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's '7 of Mine' by Warp 11, and here comes the lady whose character that song was based on, Ginny's Academy's Jeri Ryan!"
McCarthy: "And, if you want PROOF age ain't nothin' but a number, check out the body you're about to see, or, check out the results against Govich a couple of months ago!"
O'Dell: "Ryan into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal an azure number and exactly the kind of body Mac was talking about, ones girls twenty years younger than Ms. Ryan WISH they had. And, that's 'California Gurls' pounding through the arena, and that means the singer of THAT little ditty, 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry, is headed this way!"
Cassie: "And, Perry pointed out in her pre-fight interview that these two have fought before. That happened nearly two years ago, December, 2015, when Perry stopped Ryan in the sixth, and it was, indeed, quite the physical contest."
Tess: "Which is no surprise in a fight between girls like these, both of whom pack a TON of power."
O'Dell: "Perry into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that red number she prefers and looking plenty good doing it. Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Katy. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Nothin' but a number. Ryan."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Here we go, and, no surprise to anyone who's seen these ladies fight or who saw their fight a couple of years ago, Ryan and Perry wasting no time getting after one another. They're set up at range and letting the hands go early, banging away at both head and body..."
Cassie: "And, just like last time, they are not ignoring the, um, obvious targets they both possess."
O'Dell: "Just like in December, 2015, Ryan going rack right away, but, this time, Katy not taken aback by that tactic and she's responding in kind. Plenty of leather landing upstairs as well, and the flanks and midsections not being ignored, either. And, this is solid shot being exchanged, Mac..."
McCarthy: "They're not holding much back, that's for sure."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in the first round, and neither fighter slowing down. This is all about enforcing will, and, when both fighters are determined to do it to one another, well, this is the result, a hot-tossing three minutes that end with a Ryan combination to Perry's rack! Bell! And it's close to Jeri."
Tess: "And Ryan grabs the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second underway and ladies right back at it. Everything above the belt a target, as they bang away at head, body, and, especially, rack. Perry lands a solid right to the head that sends sweat flying and backs up Jeri. Ryan responds to Katy's jugs and PERRY HURTS JERI WITH A RIGHT HOOK!"
Cassie: "No IDEA how she's standing after that!"
O'Dell: "Ryan in deep trouble! She's got the guard up, but the legs are wobbly and Katy's winging away with everything she's got. Jeri quickly pinned to the ropes as Perry lets the hands go in a big way. Ryan just trying to ride out the storm here, taking an absolute LICKING right now..."
Tess: "A lot of fighters would have been out of there by now. Somehow, Ryan's still standing, but it looks like it's a matter of time..."
O'Dell: "Perry landing a TON of heavy leather, but can't find the finisher. Jeri rolling with, lying back in the ropes, keeping the hands up, doing just enough to keep the referee from leaping in. Ten seconds to go. One final flurry from Katy and there's the bell. Ryan survives, but it's a shutout round for Perry."
McCarthy: "But, it's still only 10-9, meaning we're even at 19 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Perry looking to consolidate now. She's forward after Ryan. Jeri still wobbly, giving ground, engaging in a fighting retreat, looking to at least slow Katy down. Perry walking through all of it, wants to bring her power to bear on Jeri and is determined to make that happen..."
McCarthy: "Better be careful here. Ryan has plenty of power."
O'Dell: "And, so does Katy, and she's making with it, backing Jeri up with flurries of hard shot, working her to the ropes again, and letting the hands go. GOOD right hand, Perry! That shook Ryan's knees. Jeri trying to tie up and KATY WITH A RIGHT HOOK AND JERI CRASHES PAST HER SHOULDER TO THE CANVAS!"
Cassie (singing): "Turn out the liiiigggghhhhhttttssss. The party's ohhhhhverrrrrrr...."
O'Dell: "An absolutely BRUTAL right hook from Katy, and Jeri is face down on the canvas. Perry to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. No movement at all from Ryan, and I don't expect any. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And, your winner by KO3 in BRUTAL fashion is 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Katy Perry, and, Katy, not a lot of art in there tonight..."
Katy (smiling): "Not at all. Last time, she was all about getting physical in there, and I expected the same thing this time. And, that's a problem, not just for her, but for any other light in the FCBA. Get physical with ME, and you're going to find yourself right where Jeri did. Period."
Tess: "2017 was a pretty good year for you. What's the goal for 2018?"
Katy (smiling): "I want those belts back. That's always the goal, Tess. Always."
