BEFORE:
"No," says Lauren with a shake of the head, "I DON'T have the best FCBA record. But, you know, there are fights I could have won, probably SHOULD have won, and tonight, I'll make no mistake."
"She can box, no question," says Hunter with a nod. "So, I've got to be on my game. And, I will be."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Green-Eyed Lady' by Sugarloaf, and here comes the star of FOX's 'Lucifer', the lovely Lauren German!"
McCarthy: "I can't BELIEVE this girl is here AGAIN! Every time she comes here, I DEMAND and investigation! She's now 0-6 career and STILL Weirdo brings her in here to pad the record of his Dancing Hookers! Something has to be DONE about this!"
O'Dell (sighing): "German down the aisle and into the ring. Helped off with the robe to reveal that gray number she prefers and that the fans seem to like jusssttt fine..."
McCarthy: "She's a TOOTHPICK! It's no wonder she never wins around here!"
O'Dell: "And, that's 'Shake It Out' by Florence and the Machine, and here comes 'The Ventura County Volcano', Hunter King!"
Tess: "I wonder if there's ever been an FCBA fight between an undefeated fighter and one without a win...aside from, obviously, a pair of girls with only one or two fights on their records..."
Cassie: "Your good buddy Mr. V might know."
O'Dell: "King into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that aqua number and the fans appreciate that one, too, as you can tell by their reaction..."
McCarthy: "She MIGHT have gotten into a group pictorial at Playboy. Couldn't have been a centerfold, let alone a Playmate of the Year..."
Cassie: "Truck, call Mac's eye doctor and tell him she needs bifocals...."
McCarthy: "BI...you LITTLE..."
O'Dell: "AAAAANNNNDDDDDD, we're just about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Hunter. Mac?"
McCarthy: "NO FCBA wins. King."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "It's unanimous. Let's see if the ladies are right. German, no surprise, wants to box early. Lauren has good hands and feet and moves very well, and she's putting all that to use. King very patient here. She's probing, doing some recon, moving and jabbing herself, not forcing anything early..."
McCarthy: "If I were in her corner, she'd be forcing it right now. There's no need to play patty cake with a girl like German."
O'Dell: "Lauren moving those feet, bobbing the head, getting the hands going. She's got a very accurate jab and she's dropping right hands off it. Hunter showing some solid defense here, slipping punches, blocking others, working to get her own offense on as she boxes with the older blonde."
Tess: "King plenty athletic herself and you're seeing that here. She moves very, very well."
O'Dell: "Thirty seconds left in a close-fought first round. Good flurry from German right there and King fires back with a nice combination of her own. Lauren circles away and Hunter turns with. Ten seconds left. One more solid exchange and there's the bell. Close first to King."
Cassie: "And, Hunter claims the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "King more aggressive in the early going. Apparently got some of the info she wanted in the first, because she's on the attack now. German giving some ground, wants to keep distance. She's popping out the left, circling back and away from King's right hand. Hunter stepping to, takes a solid combination from Lauren..."
Cassie: "GOOD right hand in there from German. That's called punching for respect."
O'Dell: "Doesn't slow King down, however. Hunter still looking to close, to bring German to battle. Cuts the ring, bangs some body. Lauren tying up, then slipping away to open canvas. King right back after her, slips the left and DROPS GERMAN WITH A RIGHT HAND! Oh, what a right cross from King!"
Tess: "Well, I don't do any singing on these things, but I think the party's over..."
O'Dell: "Hunter set that up with the left. Lauren moved the head to slip it and King caught her with the right hand. German down on her back. King to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. German rolling to her belly. Six. Seven. Eight. Lauren pushing up to elbows and knees. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! German can't beat the count and it's OVER, and your winner by KO2 is 'The Ventura County Volcano', Hunter King!"
McCarthy: "What a tomato can!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Hunter King, and, Hunter, you got right after her in the second..."
Hunter (nodding): "I didn't want to let her get comfortable boxing. She's too good at that. I wanted to get some pressure on her. Get physical. I knew I'd catch her eventually, and I caught her a really good one. I'm surprised she almost got up from that."
Tess: "Lot of strength in the Front Street bantamweight division these days..."
Hunter: "No doubt about it. And, I've got to work hard to keep up. But, I like the competition. We all push one another, and we're all better for it."
