BEFORE:
"I'll bet some haters thought they'd seen the last of me around here," says January with a lovely smile. "Well, I don't hate to disappoint them. I'm still around. And, tonight, I'm going to come out there and show I can still WIN, too."
"She's a veteran," says Jane with no sign of a smile at all. "She's tall. She can box. She's beaten some good fighters. I'm better. I know that. And, now I've got to go prove it."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Lullabye' by The Cure, and that means we're about to be graced by the presence of the lovely January Jones, star of FOX's 'Last Man On Earth'..."
McCarthy: "If there really WAS only one man left on Earth, all the REST of the women on the planet would be awfully lonely, because there's no question he'd be with J-Mac!"
Cassie: "Truck, send Mac a new headset. Her head swelled and snapped it in half again..."
McCarthy: "SHUT. UP. SCABBO!"
O'Dell: "Jones down the aisle and into the ring. She's helped off with the robe to reveal that white bikini we've seen before. And, that's 'Pleasant Nightmare' by Alih Jey you hear hammering through the arena, and here comes 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy!"
Tess: "We've talked before about the fact that the flyweight division here at Front Street is pretty crowded at the moment, and girls need to come up big if they're going to keep up with their stablemates. Well. I'd suspect that Levy needs to come up big tonight."
O'Dell: "Jane into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that peach number she prefers. And, the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Jane. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Jones has actually won some FCBA fights. And, age ain't nothin' but a number. January."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "We're split again and we're about to find out who's right. Jones to work early. She's got a lot of reach here, and she's using it. Setting up at gunnery range, getting the left hand on target, stopping Levy, leaving her out there where the blonde can follow with HARD right hands..."
McCarthy: "People forget that Jones has caused Weirdo problems before. She beat Dennings and Jewel back to back. Not that that's a great accomplishment..."
O'Dell: "And, she's causing Jane Levy a problem right now. Jones a bigger girl than Jane, and she's taking advantage, landing lots of solid leather while the redhead tries to find a way to get into punching range. Levy not hurt, but she's getting touched up in a major way by the veteran blonde..."
Tess: "Jones fighting like a woman with nothing to lose, sitting down on her punches right from the start."
O'Dell: "Twenty seconds to go in what's been an excellent first round for Jones. ANOTHER solid combination for January. Backs Levy up. Jones steps forward, lands another flurry, forces Jane to cover. Five seconds to go. One more solid right from the blonde and there's the bell. January. Wide."
Cassie: "And, Jones has the lead, 10-9, after one."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Jones right back to work with that left hand. Levy changing levels now, getting a little lower, looking to work past the glove. Does so. January ties her up, clamps her. Gets a break that sends the redhead back to the outside. Levy keeping the gloves high, moving the head and feet, slips in close and is tied up again."
Cassie: "This is what you talked about last round, Jenny, but showing up in a different way. Jones is a natural bantam, while Jane's a fly. And January using that size now on the inside."
O'Dell: "Indeed, she is. Not letting Jane get off in there. Instead, tying her up and getting her back outside. For her part, Levy's defense working much better this round. She's not getting picked off by the Jones jab as much and the blonde is no longer able to hammer in those hard rights almost at will."
Tess: "But, she's still scoring more than Jane is."
O'Dell: "That, she is, and, as we come down the stretch, Levy inside again, works some body. Jones ties up, Jane punches free, lands a solid right hand that's her best punch of the fight so far, but January ties up again and gets a break at the bell. Much closer in the second round, but it's the blonde again."
McCarthy: "And, Jones is now up 20-18."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third starts on the same terms as the second. Jane's adjusted to giving away the size and length now, found a way to work past the blonde's defenses and get into punching range, but, January's mucking up her offense by tying her up inside. Levy again punching free and landing a good right before Jones ties up again..."
Tess: "January needs to get that jab on. She was having a lot of success at range, but she's not doing much inside."
O'Dell: "That's certainly been the key to the fight so far. Jones turning, giving a little ground, making the redhead work to close, but Jane's inside again and banging some body. Blonde ties up the head and the referee steps in to break the fighters. Levy right back at her and at that body again."
McCarthy: "Jones hooks up the head. That's a good way to get the break. Once you've got a headlock on, the ref doesn't have a choice."
O'Dell: "And, that's January's move of choice at the moment, because Levy's getting that head down as she works body. Jane tenderizing those flanks again until the blonde ties her up. Younger woman not getting frustrated, continuing to work. She's getting some of what she wants now, and, as a result, she's got a slight edge here in the third at the bell."
Cassie: "And, January's lead now cut to 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth round sees Jones back at range snapping out that jab. She's moving the feet, angling, making Levy's advances as difficult as possible. Jane angling herself, gets into the phone booth, works some body, lands a SHARP right hand that backed January up and then follows with a hard flurry!"
Cassie: 'THAT got Jones' attention!"
O'Dell: "And, Levy keeping after her, letting the hands go. Jones isn't hurt, but she's been thrown to the defensive by the younger redhead. Jane another combination. Only one of those punches landed, but it was another solid right hand. Jones gives some more ground, covers up and GOES DOWN!"
Tess: "Right hook!"
O'Dell: "It was, indeed! The hook came at the end of another nice flurry and it sent January crashing to her right side! Levy to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Six. Jones rolls to her belly. Seven. Eight. She's trying to push off the mat but can't do it! TEN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO4 is 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy!"
McCarthy: "Jones is a tomato can. Always was!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Jane Levy, and, Jane, that was a rough start..."
Jane: "Sure was. She's the biggest girl I've ever fought and that caused me some problems. Took me a while to figure out how to get where I needed to be. But, once I did that, I got comfortable."
Tess: "And, once you got her on the defensive..."
Jane: "Yeah, then I had to keep her there. Took me a long time to grab the initiative, and I wasn't going to give it back to her. I just kept after her until I caught her, and that was that."
