Jenna Coleman vs. Roxanne Pallett
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)
BEFORE:
Third bout between these lovely British brunettes, with the first having come in the BBU back in 2013 and the second, a JMD clash, in the FCBA in 2016. Both of those ended the same way, with stoppage victories by Coleman. But, if Pallett is worried about the past, she's definitely not letting on. "I can beat her," says Foxy Roxy with a gorgeous smile. "Yeah, she got bloody lucky a couple of times, but her luck is about to run out."
"Roxanne," says Jenna with a smile and a shake of the head. "You know, it's the definition of 'insanity'. She keeps doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. But. The result is going to be the same. For the third time in a row."
ROUND ONE:
Pallett wants to stick and move early, but Coleman isn't having any. Jenna wants to get physical, and she takes the fight to the older woman early, cutting the ring, stepping to, banging away to head and body with both hands and ROCKING ROXY! Less than a minute in and Pallett is hurt! Roxanne reeling as Jenna wades in throwing bombs, driving her rival back into the ropes and giving her a thorough thrashing. Referee looking in closely. Is this how it's going to end for Pallett, stopped for a third time, and, this time in under a round? Sure looks like it, as Coleman has her way with the wobbly Roxy, but the older woman gamely, grimly hangs on, doing just enough to keep the referee from ending her night almost before it's begun. In the final minute, Pallett seems to shake the worst of the cobwebs and manages to fire back in spots, but, at the bell, Coleman's taken the points wide and leads 10-9.
ROUND TWO:
Pallett still somewhat slowed early, and that allows Jenna to get after her again. Coleman determined to make quick work of her rival, and, for about a minute, she's dominating again. But, Roxanne's legs recover, and she begins moving, sticking, finding a rhythm, slowing Coleman down with her jab and setting her up for hard right hands. All of a sudden, Pallett's back in the fight, and, not just back in it, but getting the better of things. Jenna's not able to get inside, and, as a result, her offense is being limited to single shot stuff. Slowly, Pallett makes up the early stagger and pulls ahead in the final minute. More importantly, though, she's now able to dictate terms, and those terms are working much better for her than the ones Coleman enforced in the first. At the bell, Roxanne gets the points close and evens things at 19.
ROUND THREE:
Coleman more aggressive in the third. She's determined to run Pallett to ground and get to banging, and, after a slow start, she's able to begin doing so again. The ring gets cut and Coleman crowds inside working body, shoving Pallett around, landing short, powerful hooks and HURTING ROXY AGAIN! It's a left hook this time and Pallett is steppin' in fence post holes! And, on comes Jenna! Coleman not trying to let Roxanne off the hook this time. Instead, she's loading up everything she has in the big guns and letting fly. For the second time in three rounds, Pallett finds herself on the ropes taking hard shot with the referee on a hair-trigger. But, again, Roxanne's grit proves to be enough. She covers up, rolls with, jabs back in spots, hangs on desperately as Coleman throws everything she has at her right to the bell. But, when it rings, Pallett's still standing, if a little unsteadily. For Jenna's part, she's claimed the points wide and leads 29-28.
ROUND FOUR:
Coleman out of the corner like a heat-seeking missile, all about the offense. Roxanne, without the legs to move, tries a different tactic. She's tying up, wrestling around with Jenna in there. This isn't ideal for Roxy, but, she's making due with what she has, and, while she's not able to stop Jenna, she can and does slow her down. Until, once again, Pallett's legs recover and she's able to move. When that happens, she gets to steppin', and, again, makes Jenna stalk. And, again, she's able to slow the younger woman with the jab and footwork, staying off square and setting up Coleman for sharp combinations. In a replay of the second round, Pallett controls the second half of the fourth, making up the stagger and pulling ahead late, as a frustrated Jenna can't seem to run her rival to ground. At the bell, it's close, but it's Roxy, and we're even again, this time at 38.
ROUND FIVE:
Pallett moving very well early. Jenna determined to close and bang, but now, it's Pallett who's got the geometry working. She's using the left to get space, the legs to keep it. Coleman's getting stopped by hard jabs, and, when she's right where Pallett wants her, solid flurries of leather force her to cover up. And, before Jenna can counter, Roxy's gone, circling away to open canvas. Jenna's frustration builds, as she works more and more aggressively to try to enforce terms. Before getting sloppy. BOOM! A VICIOUS right from Pallett and COLEMAN'S HURT! Jenna wobbles, nearly goes down, and now it's Pallett who's all in. Roxanne throwing leather from everywhere, backing Coleman into the ropes and pounding the heck out of her. Now it's Jenna the ref is watching closely as Roxy swings for the fences. Coleman hangs on desperately and somehow makes the bell. It's Pallett wide, though, and Roxanne has her first lead, 48-47.
ROUND SIX:
Pallett all in for the finish now. She has Jenna on the ropes, figuratively, and is determined to get her there literally in the opening seconds. She's forward aggressively, sitting down on punches, backing up the younger woman, using the physicality that Coleman herself was all about earlier in the fight. Jenna attempting a fighting retreat, firing back here and there, but she can't hold her canvas and is slowly worked back toward the cables. BOOM! Right hand counter from Coleman and Roxy is HURT! A perfectly-placed right hand unhinges Pallett's knees and now Jenna lets the hands go and DOWN. GOES. ROXANNE! Pallett dropped to her back by a flurry of punches. Coleman to a neutral corner, still a little wobbly herself. Roxanne looking up at the ref, head lolling from side to side, rolls over at six. But, can do no more! She's still face down on the canvas as the count passes her by! It's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Jenna Coleman!
AFTER
Coleman all ho-hum, despite the fact that this was not a ho-hum fight. "There wasn't any doubt," says Jenna with a shake of the head. "Again, we've done this before. Twice. And, both times I stopped her. This time wasn't going to be any different, no matter what she did. Simply because I'm better. As I just proved. For the third time."
