BRIE LARSON VS SHAY MITCHELL
Results: Lookout Writing: Archer
Brie: 28 YO, 5’7 (1.70 m), 4-1-0, 4 KO since 2017, Diamond Boxing Club
Shay: 30 YO, 5’7 ½ (1,71 m), 23-19=0. 1 KO since 2011, Pretty Little Punchers

Before: Friendly pre-fight get-together with the press seems refreshing. Brie Larson says: “Look, I’ll defend myself if some big mouth bytch tries to trash talk me, but Shay’s a class act. I am pleased to be fighting her so soon in my career. She’s had way more experience and worked her way up in the school of hard knocks. I expect to learn a lot from fighting her.”

Shay smiles: “Nice to hear an opponent say something nice about me. You’re right, Brie, I did work my way through the school of hard knocks, but I have graduated—with honors if I do say so myself—and I will be more than happy to demonstrate what I learned there on Brie.”

“Just remember Shay: you haven’t actually beaten me yet,” Brie says with a hint of steel in her voice.

“Oh, that will just be a matter of time,’ Shay says smoothly but a touch a vinegar in her words.

Press thinks they detect some competitive hostility beneath all the surface politeness Knowledgeable fans perk up and make a note to see just how this fight plays out.

On fight night, we find Brie in a sky blue sports bra with royal blue short, tight boxing trunks. Sky blue gloves and boots (dark blue laces), blonde hair in a pony tail. Shay in a dark silver one piece with black gloves and boots (silver laces), hair loose, but wetted down. Brisk ring instructions and ladies are promptly to their corners. Bell rings and it is on!

R1: Brie striking at Shay’s head from the mid-distance and circling around Shay to help dodge counters, Shay not pressing forward, exchanging punches at distance as she seems to be feeling Brie out. Brie’s trying to mix the head and body shots and she is effective in getting her leather on the more experienced fighter. Shay finally presses forward late in the round and promptly gets a solid smack in the mouth from Brie’s right and a follow-up left to the forehead. Shay knocked back on her heels. Brie now pressing in close enough to get some meaty hooks into Shay’s tummy. Shay trying to jab Brie back, but Brie’s moving her upper body nicely and evading the full force of Shay’s jabs. Bell sounds and Brie Larson wins her first round of the bout by a wide margin.

R2: Shay moving out of her corner quickly and engages Brie with a lightning strike right to the jaw and then a left to the chin. Brie rattled by the swift blows and Shay moves smoothly to take advantage with swiping rights and lefts across Brie’s stomach. Brie backing away, but she can’t seem to keep the aggressive brunette off her. Shay working that stomach with hooks that sink in deep. Brie trying to jab, but Shay is tenacious as she moves forward. Now uses uppercuts to rattle Brie’s breasts. Brie looking startled at Shay’s targeting her chest, but then gets surprised again with Shay’s shift to uppercuts to the chin. Brie looking flustered as she just can’t seem can’t seem to get Shay out of her trunks. Shay just lifting more short rights and lefts into Brie’s ribs and stomach to the bell. Brie looking a little woozy as she heads for her corner. Shay allows herself a slight smile and then goes to her own corner.

R3: Brie makes sure she is the one first out of the gate in this round. Brie plows right into Shay and gives her chest a clearly vengeful “I can mug jugg, too!” workover. Shay struggling to cope, but Brie maintains a steady pressure even as she now shifts towards working Shay to the stomach and ribs. Struggling to deploy her jab, but Brie’s doing her best to keep her defenses locked up. Shay forced to try to back up fast enough to put some breathing room between herself and Brie. Shay finally able to get her jab going late in the round and slow up Brie’s attack with some well-placed shots to the head and deep into the belly. Brie now falls back to the distance attacks to shake up Shay’s head with quick strikes off the brunette’s noggin to end a successful round. Round 3 goes to Brie Larson: wide.

R4: Shay not looking pleased with herself during break. She talks it over with trainer Nia Peeples. Nothing like between beaten at your own pressure game to irk a veteran. Shay comes out with determination. Brie is coming back for more close-in combat, but Shay’s waiting with a wall of hard-driven leather, Brie’s advance stalled as Shay drives punches hard into Brie’s face, smiting her in the forehead and the bridge of her nose. Then, while Brie is still seeing stars, Shay brings hard rights and lefts swinging into Brie’s cheeks and jaws. Brie hunching up and backing away. Shay in pursuit, striking at Brie’s shoulders and grazing the top of her head. Brie firing out counters to the midsection, Shay adjusts her position and works a right uppercut behind Brie’s guard to strike her hard to the chin, Brie’s knees shiver and she lurches back into the ropes. Shay all over the trapped blonde just pounding head and body until Brie throws her arms around Shay in a desperate bear hug of a clinch. Buys Brie time to cover up before Shay drives her back into the ropes for another, though less damaging pounding. Round ends and Shay steps back as though admiring the damage she’s inflicted on a foggy-eyed Brie Larson as she peels herself off the ropes and makes her way slowly back to her corner.

R5: DBC corner crew works hard to repair the damage to the heavily shelled Brie, but she moves slowly coming off her stool and has her gloves up defensively. Shay takes her time, circling and punching as she checks out Brie and assesses her next move. Brie just trying to block whatever Shay has planned, but she’s biting on Shay feints and getting hit hard where she wasn’t expecting the blow to fall. Shay careful to vary her feints, but then she seems to feint to the stomach and Brie raises her guard to protect her head. Shay then crosses Brie up by unleashing a furious hooking attack to the belly that raises Brie up on the toes as she jackknifes forward. Then Shay brings an explosive right-left upper combination crashing into Brie’s chin. Brie’s head snaps back AND THEN SHE CRASHES ON HER FACE. Shay has to jump back as the blonde comes clattering down at her boot toes. Shay off to the neutral corner. Brie raising herself up with her arms and looking around as though wondering what she is doing on the canvas. She tries to go further, but can’t manage it. Pained expression on her face as she hears the dreaded:

“NINE…TEN!.. YER OUT!”

THE WINNER: SHAY MITCHELL DEFEATS BRIE LARSON KO5.

After: “She is a hard puncher,” Shay says as she is surrounded by happy stablemates Ashley Benson, Sasha Pieterse, and Troian Bellisario, “Brie definitely gave me problems. I admit she surprised me with her close-in pressure work. It made me up my own game and she couldn’t handle it at this point. She’s learning, though, and I expect she’ll give me even more trouble next time we meet—and I am sure there will be a next time.”

A disappointed Brie Larson later tells press: “I thought I was beating her at her own pressure game, but she gave it right back at me in the next round. It was all foggy after that and she finished me off. I know I could have done better. She talked about fighting me again? Well, good, because I will be interested in that. In the meantime, I’ve got a future booking from Elodie Frege of the Latin Union. That will give me something to focus on as I try to put this behind me.”

Neophyte Brie Larson did show some good stuff in this fight, but not enough to overcome veteran Shay Mitchell. No disgrace in losing to a former Bantamweight Champion so we expect to see Ms, Larson quickly bounce back from the loss. Meanwhile, Say Mitchell shows she can handle younger talent as she, no doubt, looks for her next shot at a title belt. Not a long fight, but enough to give bantam fans plenty of excitement.
