BEFORE: Former welterweight champion Gemma is a big favourite for this fight, but she must beware Alice’s punching power, because she finished Michelle Ryan off in savage fashion last time out

Alice scowling at Gemma, who, as usual, has an air of sexy simplicity about her, which has fooled better girls than Alice Goodwin

Round 1

The round starts with both girls circling, eyeing each other, until Gemma slips forwards to land a jab, only to find Alice ready for her, and she bangs hard punches straight into Gemma’s face, the blonde already looking an easy target, and Alice decides to get stuck in now, sensing that Gemma might not be able to take her booming hooks, and she’s right, because Gemma stumbles after getting caught with a right hook to her jaw, her feet skittling backwards, Alice pressing her to the ropes, and ripping a lovely uppercut into Gemma’s face, her head rocked upwards and backwards, and she’s holding on as Alice gets a little too close to land more big hits, Gemma doing a little better after the referee breaks the girls up, but there’s no way she wants to trade with Alice in this mood, the brunette snarling, “Loser!” at the bell

Round 2

Gemma’s on her toes now, using her dance skills and fitness to keep Alice away, boxing the brunette to show her up a little, Alice well aware that Gemma can box her stupid, but confident that she has the power to put the former champion away, and she tries out her hooks again, Gemma avoiding both her left and right hand lunges, and peppering Alice’s face with good, accurate jabs, saving her more punishing punches for later use, when the brunette is likely to be tired, but she’s not tired at this stage, and gradually closes Gemma to a neutral corner, looks for that brutal uppercut again, misses and takes a sweet combination, but stands her ground, and hurts Gemma with three right handers to her ribs, the blonde squeaking as the leather crashes into her flesh, and she’s hanging on again at the bell, even though she probably had the better of this round

Round 3

Gemma’s blowing hard as the round begins, with Alice again giving her a bit of a going over, trapping her and hitting her to her face, making her clinch and lean on her to reduce Alice’s leverage. After being broken, Gemma’s boxing Alice from distance again, setting the nrunette up with some jabs, constantly keeping her own right hook back as a threat, as Alice again tests her jaw with a left and a right, rocking her once more, with Gemma having to cover up quickly, Alice coming at her, trying to lift her head with an uppercut again, but finding Gemma too quick, the former champion turning Alice, and now she takes control of the fight, hitting Alice around the body as the brunette seems to lose her way at the end of an even round

Round 4

Gemma’s getting better the longer this fight lasts, it seems, and she lands some crisp jabs in Alice’s face from the bell. Making the brunette back off, and follows up with some hooks to her body, but Alice is able to absorb those fairly easily, counters well, and seems to hurt Gemma with a right cross, although the blonde does what she can not to show it, and fights back once again, dancing and weaving behind her jab, keeps Alice away nicely, avoids the brunette’s attempts to press her to the ropes, tags her with a left hook, but that’s not a great idea, because she’s allowed Alice to trade with her, and the brunette clubs her jaw with a great right hook, hard enough to have Gemma stumble slightly, and her good form for the first two minutes or so starts to unravel as Alice hits her and prods her into her own corner by the bell, hitting her ribs hard

Round 5

The punches Alice drilled into Gemma’s ribcage seem to be troubling the blonde, as she looks a little slower as the pair resume, and that costs her immediately, as Alice unloads left and right hooks on her face, sending her tottering backwards, Gemma backed into the ropes, and Alice tries out a short uppercut, her left glove thumping into the blonde’s face hard enough to make her slump on the top rope, before she covers up, clinches and holds, Alice letting the referee pull the blonde off her, the brunette looking cool, and she’s lining Gemma up for something special, swats her face with a left hook, and rips a right uppercut up between the former champion’s protective gloves, Gemma flipped over and onto her back, her head thudding on the canvas, and this doesn’t need a count, because she’s out!

Result: Alice Goodwin knocked out Gemma Atkinson in round 5

AFTER: That may go down as a surprise, but maybe not a shock, and Gemma’s possibly had too many tough fights lately

There’s some concern now for the big blonde’s health, because it’s taking a while for her to come around, although Alice just crows, “I’m the number 1 Brit!”
