BEFORE:
"I'll say this again," says Katharine with a shake of the head. "I took Katy Perry the distance. And, Katy Perry is better than THIS girl. So, Charlotte's in for a surprise tonight."
"One of us in for a surprise tonight," says a hard-eyed Charlotte. "And, the other one is ME."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Touch Me' you hear behind us..."
McCarthy: "You know, all the terrible music and terrible singing we hear around here and I'M not allowed to sing..."
Cassie: "Um, the girl singing this song is an acclaimed recording artist and is currently starring on BROADWAY..."
McCarthy: "OVER-RATED."
O'Dell (sighting): "And, the singer in question is, of course, Katharine McPhee, star of CBS's 'Scorpion'..."
Tess: "McPhee a girl a lot of people have said has potential. She's very athletic, no question of that. But, she's had ZERO success in the FCBA."
O'Dell: "Katharine helped off with the robe to reveal that green and white striped number we've seen before..."
All I want to eat is cherry licorice
I don't care if it sounds ridiculous
Even the birds and the bees
Eat how they damn well please...
O'Dell: "And, that's 'Cherry Licorice' by The Felice Brothers, and that can only mean that 'Agent 00DDD' herself, Charlotte McKinney, is on her way to ringside!"
McCarthy: "The only thing stupider than this SONG is that NICKNAME..."
Tess: "Front Street definitely considering a push at welterweight for the first time in nearly three years, and if that charge happens, one of the girls leading it will be Charlotte McKinney."
O'Dell: "Charlotte into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that admiral blue number we've seen before, and the crowd showing plenty of appreciation as usual..."
McCarthy: "Again. Philly. Low standards."
O'Dell: "Annnnddddd the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Charlotte. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Well, Charlotte IS overrated, but, McPhee's a tomato can. McKinney."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Here we go. McPhee, as we've said, plenty athletic, and the leggy brunette going to make use of that right now. She's popping out the jab, moving the feet, wants to maintain distance and box. Blonde bobbing the head, working forward, wants to close and bang, put all that power to use."
Cassie: "McPhee can hit, but she doesn't want to stand in front of Charlotte."
O'Dell: "She does not, and that's why you're seeing this fight plan. Brunette wants distance and room to operate, and she's getting some of that here in the first. Charlotte working forward, using the left to try to get past Katharine's defenses, working as hard to square as McPhee is not to GET squared."
Tess: "And, she's mostly succeeding at the moment."
O'Dell: "That, she is. Coming down the stretch in a competitive first. Both fighters able to score some, neither able to take control of the round. McPhee a good flurry right there. Brunette turning it on down the stretch trying to grab the points. Five seconds left and there's the bell. Close. Katharine."
McCarthy: "And, the tomato can is up 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins the way the first ended, with McPhee working to enforce distance and the blonde looking to close and bring her physicality into play, and I must say, ladies, I'm impressed with how athletic the brunette is and how good her hands are. You've got to wonder if she'd have done more, might still DO more with consistent work..."
Cassie: "You know, the two girls who dominated this division until recently, Righetti and Regan, they are not the big, plodding, all power welters. Lots of managers, including Uncle Wiz believe the future of this division is in girls who box and move like lights, but hit like welters..."
McCarthy: "And what would WEIRDO know about anything? Not only doesn't HE know anything, he's got trainers like Campbell, Pink, and Park who know even LESS..."
Tess: "Well, they knew how to beat YOU, especially Neve."
McCarthy: "I. WAS. ROBBED! Money was FALLING out of the pockets of those referees and judges!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Final twenty seconds of another competitive round. McKinney steps to and works some body. McPhee ties up and slips away, gets back to her jab. Not a lot in it as we head for the bell. Good combination Katharine and Charlotte responds with a big flurry at the bell! Close again. McKinney."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Terms looking like being set now, as we're right back to the war of movement to start the third. McPhee using the feet and the jab to work distance, make it hard for Charlotte to bring her power to bear. Blonde patient, working forward, using her own accurate left to provide cover for her advance."
McCarthy: "This really is playing to McPhee's strengths. Give the kid credit. She's fighting smart."
O'Dell: "And, she's fighting well. And, it's not like we haven't seen this before from the brunette. Again, she's shown ability, she just hasn't gotten results. Nice flurry there from Katharine, set up by the jab. Charlotte responds with a solid one-two of her own. Three consecutive competitive rounds, ladies."
Tess: "And, again, this is more important for McPhee right now than McKinney, as Charlotte's the solid favorite."
O'Dell: "Final thirty seconds of the third. McKinney steps to, works some body. McPhee bangs back, then slips away, gets the distance she wants, gets back to the left jab. Charlotte wants to bring her to battle, but the brunette going to jab the final seconds away. There's the bell. Close to McPhee again."
Cassie: "And, Katharine's back on top 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "McPhee back to that left as we start the fourth. She's been very active in this fight so far, moving, busy with the hands, boxing very, very well. For her part, Charlotte fighting according to Katharine's fight plan, and she's been competitive doing it, but, I'm guessing the Front Street corner wants to see different terms."
Cassie: "Guarantee it. They want more banging and less jabbing."
O'Dell: "Charlotte stepping to, working some body. McPhee tying up and CHARLOTTE ROCKS HER! McKinney with a short right hook and the brunette is HURT! Katharine covering up immediately and the blonde letting the hands go in a big way. McPhee backed into the ropes by a blizzard of leather..."
Tess: "That was actually a pretty slick punch. McPhee had tied up and was ready to try and slip away like she's done before and Charlotte caught her before she could."
O'Dell: "And, McKinney is catching Katharine a LOT right now. McPhee taking a TON of leather along the ropes. Referee looking in closely. Brunette hanging on, long, sturdy legs shipping the damage and keeping their owner upright. Ten seconds to go. Katharine going to survive it. There's the bell. McKinney. Wide."
McCarthy: "And, we're even again at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "McKinney pressing forward now. She's got McPhee buzzed and she's looking to take advantage. Charlotte backing the brunette up, sitting down on everything, looking to finish this thing right now. Katharine retreating, but able to make it a fighting retreat as she counters in spots..."
McCarthy: "This is what you want to do in this situation, slow her down, work some clock."
O'Dell: "And, that's what McPhee is doing. She's managed to stay off the ropes, and, though McKinney's getting the better of things, she's not getting blown out of the round. Charlotte patient. She's not getting sloppy. She's working to set up punches, using that jab and SHE DROPS MCPHEE WITH A RIGHT HAND!"
Cassie: "That was a BIG TIME welterweight punch right there!"
O'Dell: "It was indeed! A straight right off a pretty left jab and McPhee goes crashing to her back. Charlotte to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Katharine rolling to her belly at six. Surprised she's not completely out after that. Seven. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's over! McPhee not even able to get to hands and knees and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is 'Agent 00DDD', Charlotte McKinney!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "Charlotte, that was a pretty good fight..."
Charlotte (nodding): "She's got some skills, Tess. She just needs what I've got, good management and steady work."
Tess: "And, talking about management, there's been a lot of talk about where Front Street is headed in the welter division..."
Charlotte: "I can't worry about that. I do my job. If it doesn't work out here, it will work out somewhere else, you know?" |
