BEFORE:
"Obviously, I haven't been getting as much work as I'd like the last few years," says A J with a nod. "But, I'm still in great shape and I can still fight at a high level, as I'm about to prove."
"She's skilled," says Anna. "She's smart. And she has experience. She's not going to be a walk in the park. But, I'm an Aussie. I don't mind covering rough terrain."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Blood Of The Lamb' you hear behind us, and one of the singers of that song, A J Cook of CBS' 'Criminal Minds' is on her way to the ring."
Cassie: "That song is from the film 'Misconceptions' and the other singer is Foxfire's Sarah Carter."
McCarthy: "YAWN. Let's talk about BOXING and not who sings a song from some movie..."
Tess: "Fine. Let's talk about some of your fights with Neve Campbell..."
McCarthy: "I was ROBBED! I was ROBBED!"
O'Dell (sighing): "A J into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a gray two-piece and a body that shows she's clearly been training hard for this one. And, that's 'The Pain And The Passion' by Midnight Oil pounding through the arena, and here comes 'The Aussie Enforcer', Anna Torv!"
McCarthy: "FINALLY! A REAL fighter!"
Cassie: "Anna among the top level of lights as she has been for several years now. She's looking for another shot at the title, preferably soon."
Tess: "And, if that's going to happen, she's going to need to come up big tonight."
O'Dell: "Torv tapping glove to fist with Mac on the way down the aisle as usual before climbing into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that black bikini we've seen before, and, we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Anna. Mac?"
McCarthy: "REAL fighter. Torv!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "First begins with Torv setting up at range. Aussie wants to box, but A J has a different idea, she's stepping to, wants to do some banging early. Torv responding in kind, and we're seeing some spirited exchanges in there and a GOOD RIGHT HAND FROM COOK! A J rocks Anna in the first..."
Cassie: "Really pretty hook right behind the left glove!"
O'Dell: "And A J letting the hands go in a big way! Torv covering up, giving ground, she's in some trouble right now. Anna forced back in the ropes. She's in a tight earmuff, rolling with a TON of heavy fire coming her way from the Canadian. Cook's got all the heavy guns dialed in right now, Mac..."
McCarthy: "But, Torv is tough as nails. She'll ship this."
O'Dell: "Into the final 30 seconds. A J going all in to get what would be a huge stoppage here. Torv jabbing back, playing defense, running clock. Ten seconds to go. Aussie going to make it out of what has turned out to be a huge first round for A J Cook. There's the bell. Cook. Wide."
Tess: "And, A J's got the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with Cook coming forward. Torv holding ground, firing back, trying to slow her rival's offensive. A J continuing to come forward and SHE GETS NAILED! Anna sets up a BIG right hand with a pretty left jab and now A J's the one in retreat as Anna opens up with the heavy guns..."
McCarthy: "I told you! You aren't going to throw bombs with Torv and come out on top."
O'Dell: "Cook being backed up by hard, accurate fire. Flurry after flurry from the Aussie, who's got her rival in trouble and knows it. A J managing to stay off the ropes at the moment, she's countering in spots, but the legs more than a little iffy after that right hand from Torv. Anna ANOTHER good right..."
Tess: "And that shook A J, too!"
O'Dell: "Cook proving plenty sturdy herself, as she's taken some hard shots in this second round. Torv backing her up with another nice rally. A J still moving laterally, staying off the cables. Final ten seconds of the second round. Another good right hand from Anna, but Cook takes it well and there's the bell. Anna wide in the second."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Torv continuing the offensive as we start the third. Anna using that heavy left jab, the Front Street Jab, to set up hard right hands. She's backing up Cook with those, despite A J's efforts to hold her canvas. Anna very, very accurate as always, and she's getting a lot of leather on target..."
Cassie: "And, Cook's pretty good defensively, but Torv's breaking down those defenses..."
O'Dell: "Definitely is. She's finding the target over and over again, and that punishment is going to add up at some point. Cook now backed into the ropes for the first time and a HARD flurry from Torv sends her stumbling along the cables and there's a right hand and DOWN GOES COOK!"
Tess: "What a right!"
O'Dell: "And A J just noses in past Anna's shoulder to crash face first to the canvas. Torv to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Cook rolls to her back. Looks up at the referee. Seven. Eight. Nine. Not going to happen. TEN! It's OVER! Cook still dazed on her back as the count passes her by and it's OVER. And your winner by KO3 is 'The Aussie Enforcer', Anna Torv!"
McCarthy: "I TOLD you. The one REAL fighter Weirdo has."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore."
Tess: "I have our winner, Anna Torv, and, Anna, rough start but big finish..."
Anna: "As I said in the pre-fight, she's rough terrain, a good, veteran fighter. Nothing easy about fighting A J Cook. You've got to be at your best against her, and, fortunately, I was."
Tess: "What's next for you?"
Anna: "The goal's the same, Tess. The lightweight belts. So, anything that gets me closer to that opportunity." |
