BEFORE: You can argue this is actually a super flyweight contest with Julianne Hough browsing the bantamweight market before and Selena Gomez being labelled as "too big" for the flyweights by some experts. However it's all about recovering the lost mojo tonight. Selena went down to Danielle Campbell back in January and went into hiding thereafter as her elite ambitions suffered another cruel blow as if sharing the same gym with Jessica Lowndes wasn't difficult enough. Meanwhile Julianne swung for the fences against the best fighter in business right now - Megan Fox - but came up short and remains on the outside looking in at what has been a stellar career as late as 2014. There's still demand for blue-eyed blondes (or bleached redheads) in FCBA though and Hough is by no means a washed-up veteran! But she needs to actually win one of these fights soon...

Selena Gomez wears a turquoise bikini set and black gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a custom ponytail. Julianne Hough wears an orange sports bra, silver hotpants and matching silver gloves. Bleached copper red hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.

Round 1:
Immediate brawling ensues as Julianne works around Selena's aerial attack and gets those dancer legs to work! There's just no way the blonde... ahem.. redhead loses the tiptoeing battle and she nicks in several promising strikes to annoy Gomey's guard that withstands the initial test but allows Hough to dictate the pace from the front. Julianne still believes she can find that championship magic again and makes Selena pay when she lands more crisp punches up the middle with the Latin hottie looking a little stunned that Hough cuts her off punch for punch. She escapes getting trapped along the ropes but is forced to yield real estate in numbers as Tess Valmore claims on twitter the Fox defeat actually helped Hough more than it was to be expected from such an experience. Bell.

Round 2:
The uptempo magic works for the redhead again as she beats the Lioness girl in another feisty close range brawl before blasting her on the chin with a swift follow up. Julianne just keeps on piling the pressure and wobbles the younger opponent onto her heels while Gomez struggles to connect working from behind the guard. She gets glued to the spot and eats more piercing strikes up the middle with Hough bumping her onto the ropes down the stretch. There's nowhere to hide from this inspired agility from the pro dancer and she traps Selena in the corner where she delivers more juice to leave the brunette scowling in anger when a nasty cross hooks swivels her head to the side. Julianne slips by with a gut-checking double right at the bell and LCA coach Eva Mendes goes all Spanish during the interval trying to ignite that Latin spark into a very subdued protegee.

Round 3:
Selena comes out swinging and manages to catch the older girl on the nose with the initial attempt that halts the looming attack. Julianna's forced to adjust her stance but gets nailed on the nose again and bends to the side while Gomez whacks her on the exposed ribcage and makes her stumble even further backwards. Another flying strike finds the right temple and suddenly it's all Selena who barges her way into the redhead's rack and clips her chin with an uppercut combo. Hough dekes to the side but struggles to make her efforts count in mid-distance during a chaotic second minute where Gomez drops the precision rate but still keeps the bullying charge alive. Julianne tries to brawl herself out of the defensive spot but gets countered for a quick overhand and the Gomey punches stack up against her face in the closing stages that leaves one or two eyebrows raised at the bell.

Round 4:
Hough's guard was dangerously exposed in the previous round but she tries to run it from the front again only to find Gomez piercing her mouth with repeated point-blank range strikes instead. Ugh! Welcome to the phone booth and Hough's bendy skills just can't force the Latin hottie off so a trademark flyweight brawl follows and ends with the pro dancer nursing a fat lip well into the second minute. Selena gets a little vocal as she drives her shots upstairs and straight through the leaking guard; even the lack of genuine versatility doesn't hamper her run here as Hough stops everything with her face come the final stretch and drops back to the ropes where Gomez keeps raining punches to maintain the dominant position. Julianne lands some quick single strikes to remain afloat but the brunette triples her numbers and has to be dragged off at the bell. Both girls give each other a lenghty eyeball but overall, that's tg sort of recovery coach Mendes was looking for!

Round 5:
Julianne rewinds the tape to round one and jumps into a hectic jabbing frenzy only to see Gomez duck away from it and counter with an outright blast that tears the lower lip into a bloody leak! Uh-oh! Selena turns from the hip and really stuffs the bleached redhead with another quick pounce soon afterwards that sinks the former champion on soft knees but more importantly, she drops her mitts for good and gets EXECUTED with a crunching left hook on the jaw! HOUGH IS DOWN!!! A collective groan is heard around the arena when the dancer hits the boards with the back of her head and she's been smoked outta here!!! Ref calls it off straight away and it's a huge KO5 Selena Gomez!!!

AFTER: Selena's outright power was always deemed inferior to Alpha stablemate Jessica Lowndes but Julianne Hough is guilty of some very leaky guard here tonight and she just couldn't hang on after getting picked off ever since round number three. Too much juice broke the camel's back and one must wonder whether Eva Mendes has applied some changes to Selena's physical traning since joining the LCA coaching staff back in March. Some pundits still believe Selena ought to move to bantam one day but she's clawed herself back into the contenders picture once again courtesy of tonight's epic punchout of a dangerous opponent and with Jessica Lowndes talking beach boxing and JMD straps, there's every chance the former Disney Princess slips through on the inside to annoy the usual flyweight suspects sooner rather than later.

Final result: Selena Gomez def. Julianne Hough KO5.
