Jessica Biel vs Odette Yustman (Medallion Boxing vs Lioness Club of America) (73-49-1, 44 KO vs 35-19-1, 28 KO) Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: It's perhaps hard to imagine but these two brunettes have never met in the boxing ring before which is quite unique given their veteran status in the community. Jessica Biel has seen the best days of her career behind her but still fights elite schedule which is something several of these younger upstarts genuinely avoid. That's not the problem for Odette Yustman but she has to deal with Brooklyn Decker stealing her LCA lightweight thunder over the past several months and Erin Andrews questions whether the California native still has any chance of joining the divisional title picture given how the Alpha/Beta status is enforced in the Mr. V-sun stable.
Jessica Biel wears a light blue sports bra, black hotpants and white gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Odette Yustman wears a red sports bra with white trim, black hotpants and silver gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a similar sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Round 1: Both veterans take it easy in the opening round and while Jessica's four-fight losing streak perhaps justifies her approach, Odette's otherwise unfortunate defeat to the hard-hitting Kelly Rohrbach seems to have left her in an awkward spot as she's not exactly a natural aggressor in the ring. The back & forth single jabbing hardly inspires wild cheers from the audience but these girls have seen it all around the league and maintain the low-key action to the point neither of them actually bothers to keep their gloves up. A quick smile from Biel tries to tease Yustman into some tactical moves alas the younger brunette only cringes in response and gestures at the Minnesota native to come forward herself. Erin Andrews in a little bemused by this behaviour but one can fully expect this fight going the distance so why waste the precious energy in the opening round for no immediate profit?
Round 2: Things gets more heated when Jessica tackles the younger brunette to the body and finally forces a proper response from Yustman. Sge digs her mitts under the elbows and escapes an overhand swing from Odette who then eats a quick uppercut on the jaw and drops backwards into her trademark bendy defence. Alas Jessica finds a wrenching left hook on the lips and sends her foe onto the ropes fuelled by another aerial strike that tags the temple. Odette responds from behind the guard but remains glued to the ropes and Biel splits her mitts several times finding success in point-blank range to leave the Lioness coach Claudia Schiffer pounding the turnbuckle in frustration at the bell.
Round 3: Biel beats Yustman for another initial punch and delivers the head-hunting galore that buries the California brunette behind a tight earmuff during the opening minute. The counter-punching response only bounces off the Minnesota guard and allows the Hall of Famer to stay on top of her otherwise subdued opponent. Jessica still has enough steam to run any fight from the front in the early stages and Yustman backs off into defensive circles when she eats another quick combo on the lips down the stretch. She frustrates Biel with her agile footwork but does little to actually impress the judges according to Erin Andrews and a late hooking double pins her to the turnbuckle for good with Jessica running out of time to secure a bigger reward for her offensive prowess.
Round 4: Claudia Schiffer's methodical game plan isn't exactly working against the Medallion Hall of Famer but a swift change finally brings Odette some success early in the fourth. She drops the ultra-defensive approach in favor of some point-blank range brawling and smacks Biel on the temples before piercing her liver area with a nasty hook that makes the older girl moan. Ugh! Jessica just didn't anticipate the low switch - any switch at all - and gets whacked on the lips with another quick rally to seek respite in mid-range. However she doesn't have the agility required to escape the Yustman heat and gets picked off repeatedly until she bellows out on the ropes where she gets outworked both north & south to disappear behind a desperate earmuff. Odette channels her speed into actual punching drill and with Biel's high guard wilting under pressure, she hauls in a nasty jabbing rally to leave visible bruises on the Hall of Famer's face come the bell.
Round 5: The gloves are finally off here - if not literally - and Biel clips the fellow brunette's temples a couple of times again however falls foul of the midsection switch and bends forward when the California native rips through her liver area again. Ugh! Odette doesn't quite find the haymaker yet but she thumps an uppercut drive that whips Jessica on her heels before a counter hook on the nose leaves the other woman scowling in pain. An overhand exchange favors the younger actress again and suddenly Biel gets wrapped into a leather frenzy that sends her ponytail spinning around and Odette romping through to add more bruises on that pretty Minnesota face! Jessica gets clubbed to the ropes and can only stop the Yustman assault with her flesh! Odette finally avoids the desperate earmuff in the dying seconds and stuffs her vulnerable prey with another hook on the liver area that leaves Biel gasping for air at the bell.
Round 6: Jessica doesn't really have the tools to stay clear in the mid-range so she has to brawl herself out of trouble the hard way... However she eats a clubbing right hand across the nasal ridge seconds into the sixth and wobbles forward when Odette delivers a half-uppercut on the chin. Ugh! This is just a woeful defense here from the Hall of Famer and Odette rips her up from point-blank range again to drop the guard by the wayside. Jessica gets rooted to the spot amid this head-hunting frenzy and gives up the ghost when the Yustman overdrive pierces her solar plexus... She spits out her gumshield in a futile effort to force a break from the ref but Odette is faster than the man in charge and WHACKS her on the nose one last time... BIEL CRUMBLES ON HER KNEES and then just slides face down on the canvas. Ref shoves the fellow brunette back to her corner alas he can do little about Biel spitting out the gumshield on purpose especially that the Minnesota native is unable to stay off the boards anymore. KO6 Odette Yustman!!!
AFTER: Biel's slump continues but her chin shows lethal flaws these days and once Odette abandoned the counter-punching plan, she was able to explore that weakness in very effective fashion. It still remains to be seen whether she can mount a proper elite challenge in the upcoming months however with Brooklyn Decker switching her focus to welterweight, there's every chance she can sneak under the radar again. The Lioness brass remembers the days when Odette used to be the most overlooked prospect in the division and that keeps Claudia Schiffer and the boxer herself from voicing their opinions in the public following tonight's epic punchout. It's not like it makes any genuine difference at the end of the day even though Erin Andrews wishes that wasn't the case with the L.A. native.
Final result: Odette Yustman def. Jessica Biel KO6. |
