DANIELLE CAMPBELL VS HAYDEN PANETTIERE

Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Danielle: 23 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m), 17-5-0, 17 KO since 2014, Pretty Little Punchers

Hayden: 28 YO, 5’1 1/2 (1.55 m), 66-32-1, 49 KO since 2006 Foxfire Boxing

Before: There is a lot of tension in the air as the press and other interested parties gather to hear what Danielle Campbell and Hayden Panettiere have to say before they fight. Dani’s PLP and Hayd’s Foxfire were once sister stables, but there has been a growing conflict (sibling rivalry?) between the veteran Foxfire and the relative newcomers of the PLP. All too often these pressers have exploded into catfights and this one seems primed for trouble.

“I had no idea this would be Hayden’s 100th fight,” says Danielle, “I just wanted the chance to prove I was an elite flyweight contender and Hayden came to mind. Since then I’ve found this fight is going to very important to her. Look, I don’t want to be the one to spoil the party, but I really need to win this fight. As I said, it will prove I belong up there in the Top 10 and deserve a shot at the title. This is a really important fight for me to win.”

Hayden is eyeing Danielle warily: “I am not doubting your worthiness Danielle. You’ve won 16 of your last 17 fights including your last 13 in a row. I want my 100th fight to be against someone important.”

“Thank you,” Dani said, “you know. I want to show you I am sincere. If you beat me, I’ll send my panties over all freshly laundered, of course and you will have a souvenir of the victory.”

“And what if you should happen to win?” Hayden inquired with a sly smile.

“Well, I would hope you would return the favor. I have some nice ones on my trophy wall, but your would be really special,” DC explained eagerly.

“I may be called ‘Hayden Panties’ a lot, but I am not all that willing to part with them. Still, I think it would be fair stakes,” Hayden said.

“Oh, that is great!” Dani cried and rushes over to hug Hayden. Hayden is startled at first (apparently thinking she was about to be attacked), but Dani seems sincere in her hugging.

“You know, there is something I always wanted to ask you. I don’t mean to sound insulting,” Dani said, “but you are a small person. Yet you’ve won the Flyweight title—THREE times! How do you do it?”

“It’s not easy, but it’s all a matter of determination and I have to tell you, I am determined to win this fight,” Hayden informed the younger woman.

“Well, of course you are, but so am I,” Danielle replied.

“That’s why it’s fight—short of a draw—one of us is going to win and the other one has to wait until next time,” Hayden said.

“I get you. Well, it’s been a pleasure meeting you like this,” Dani said. “Next time we meet won’t be so pleasant, but see you then.”

“No, it won’t be,” Hayden agreed and they shared a final hug, then went their podiums for the rest of the press conference which proceeded on surprising pleasant, non-controversial terms. (Much to the disappointment of those who were expecting clothes rending, hair pulling and claws bared conflict as in other Foxfire/PLP encounters.)

With an absence of a “grudge match” atmosphere, one might have expected this fight to attract less than average social media attention. On the contrary, this being Hayden’s chance to reach 100 fights (and it was whispered she was a candidate for the FCBA Hall of Fame, but to get in would mean winning the fight otherwise she would have to wait until she did score a win) and Danielle Campbell’s opportunity to achieve elite flyweight status—made this a fight to be noticed. Much speculation about which of the fighters would be the most motivated—and if this would make much a difference in the end.

By fight night, the crowd was cheering and waving homemade signs and banners to support Hayden or Danielle. Hayden was in a black bikini panties with a black bandeau bra (across the back of the bikini panties is embroidered HAYDEN in flowing letters). Danielle was wearing a pink string bikini panties and bra. The initials DC we embroidered on the back on the pink panties. Hayden wore black gloves and ankle boots, Her hair was in a top knot. Danielle also favored the top knot for her hair, but she went with white gloves and ankle boots. The ring instructions were quiet, but both fighters looked tense and it clear they were each feeling the pressure of this fight. The instructions were finished and then they went to their corners. The bell sounded. It was on!

R1: Hayden and DC meet at midring and there is an explosion of punching as though they were each trying for an early KO. Heads were banged around in the opening salvo, then it went to the body and then back up to the head. Hayden was pressing in hard, pounding Dani to the body now, but slipping quick ones up to the head and jaw. Danielle jabbing hard to the body and trying to ignore the impacts coming into her body. Then Danielle cracks a hard right to the side of the head. Hayden is staggered. Danielle brings the left into the opposite side of the head. Hayden falling back. Danielle hops after the blonde, but Hayden shakes it off and unleashes a barrage of jabs to the head that has DC ducking. Hayden trying to advance, but gets stuffed in the gut by Danielle’s countering hooks. Hayden gasping for breath, backs up, but uses jab to keep DC at a distance. Time runs on a hard-fought opener. Judges add up the points and round goes to Danielle Campbell by a narrow margin.

R2: Dani and Hayd move aggressively at one another and start firing hard to the body. (A few quick shots to the head are mixed in, but these are mostly blocked or ducked. Therefore they both seem to settle on working over each other to the body). Hayden’s arms are moving like high-speed pistons as she works over Danielle to belly, ribs and breasts. Dani answering, but she’s a little behind on the punch rate and she is getting slowly driven back by the sheer volume of leather being landed on her torso. DC giving Hayden a lot of resistance, but the blonde veteran seems willing to absorb these counters as she maintains her pressure on Dani’s body. Round ends and this time Hayden Panettiere wins the round, but again it’s a close one.

R3: Danielle seems less inclined to get into close action with Hayden this round. She uses her jab to keep Hayd back with some sharp strikes to the forehead and off the petite blonde’s jaw. That shot to the jaw seems to put the fog in Hayden’s brain as she stops advancing and is sluggish in reacting to Dani’s exploratory straight rights and lefts to the face. Dani immediately ups her attack with swinging lefts and rights to the head. Hayden rung up and falling back rapidly now, Dani moving with her catches Hayden on the chin with a lunging right and the resulting tremor has Hayden’s legs quivering. Hayden covering up as Dani lashes the body, tipping Hayden forward and trying to get hooks through the blonde’s covering gloves to smite her in the face. Hayden being driven along the ropes, but Dani can’t quite cut off the ring and get Hayd trapped on the strands., Dani keeps up the pressure to the bell and wins the ropund by a wide margin. Hayden looking a bit wobbly getting back to her stool.

R4: Danielle resuming the attack as the new round begins and Hayden definitely on the tight defense in the opening minute. Dani realizes Hayden’s defense is protecting her head and she goes to the belly with hard, driving hooks. Hayden grimacing, but then she fires back with the jab and catches Dani in along the eye brows and bridge of her nose. Dani knocked back on her heels by these punches, but fires her own jab to smack Hayden in the face as the blonde tries to follow up. Hayden lashing back at DC’s face and both countenances quickly become badly bruised and swollen. Pace slows down as impact of the facial pulping is felt by both Dani and Hayd. They start circling, gloves up to protect the face and striking to the chest and ribs to the bell. Much closer round this time, but judges give the narrow win to Dani C.

R5: Both corners work hard to repair the damage suffered by Dani and Hayden in the previous round. Dani makes a determined effort to come charging off her stool, but she looks sloppy as Hayden closes on her. Hayden feints to the body and DC bites. Dani’s gloves drop and almost instantly Hayden has shot in close and brings smashing rights and lefts into the Dani’s jaw. DC goes stumbling back and crashes against the ropes. Dani instinctively spreads her arms along the top rope to steady herself, but she has left herself wide-open. Hayden smashing DC’s face from side to side. DC looks doomed! No! Dani throws her arms around Hayden and sort of dances her to mid ring! Referee rushes in to pull Dani off Hayden. DC going face in gloves and backing into the ropes as Hayden comes snarling at her. Dani now taking a seat on the ropes as Hayden just works over huddled body over. Dani just riding out the storm of leather until she begins to slide along the ropes. Hayden keeping DC pinned and under heavy pounding assault, but Dani’s legs not faltering. Bell ends the round and Dani very gingerly leaves the ropes. Hayden not happy as she stomps to her corner. She scores a shutout round, but couldn’t get DC on the canvas. Hayden too much a veteran not to be frustrated at letting the opportunity for at least a knockdown to slip away.

R6: Danielle all but collapses once she reaches her stool. The PLP corner crew works desperately to get her ready for the next stanza. Dani slow out of her corner at the bell and she is very cautious as Hayden returns. Hayd looking fired up tries to overwhelm DC, but the Puncher fighter employs her jab to advantage as she breaks up Hayden’s attacks with strong counters to head and body, Hayden falls back and starts circling. She’s firing steadily at DC;’s head, making her duck down and reducing her counters as she keeps her gloves up close to her face. Hayden attacks to the body, hunching DC up with steady hooks to the belly and she tries to work Danielle back into the ropes. Dani not countering much, but she is protecting herself very well as she frustrates Hayden’s knockdown efforts once again. However Hayden has won the round by a wide margin and looks to dominating as the fight crosses the halfway mark.

R7: Hayden resumes the shelling of Danielle, but DC is starting to move around and keep her upper body in motion so as to be a lesser target. Hayden having to work harder to get in her punches and now she’s running into a steady, strong jab from DC. Hayden moving to try to crush this resistance, but as she comes in, she gets rung up HARD with a strong cracking right upper to the chin. Hayden recoiling as Dani pumps hooks into Hayden’s belly. Hayden rallies with her own jab to stall DC’s counterattack, but the two are toe to toe at the bell grinding away to the body, Referee has to jump in and break it up. Two small warriors exchange fierce looks as the sweat and blood slowly trickles down their hard panting bodies. Then they turn away and march to their corners. Crowd is buzzing with excitement as they wait to see what happens next.

R8: It appears both Dani and Hayd have gotten their second winds as they both come charging out of their corners with fresh energy. They lunge for each other trying to land the first punch. Dani lands a glancing right to the head that smacks into Hayden’s top knot. Hayden lands a better-aimed right to the point of DC’s chin. Danielle’s head jerks back and Hayden brings the left crashing home against the brunette’s jaw. DOWN GOES DANI! Dani on all fours with an stunned look on her face as she looks up at Hayden whose top knot has come loose and brought tendrils of blonde hair down onto her face. Hayd sweeps them away in a proud gesture and strides to the neutral corner. Dani now in a crouch, breathing hard, trying to steady herself as she hears the referee’s count starting. She takes a deep breath and slowly, slowly she rises as her fans cheer her on. At last she is standing there, having broken the count at “NINE!” and pushing the referee aside to defiantly wave at Hayden to come back in! Crowd is on its feet as Hayden takes the challenge and there is a blazing, swirling exchange of punches as the two circle around each other. Danielle’s top knot has somehow come undone, too and sent hair dropping down onto her face. Dani and Hayden fix burning eyes through the drooping hair and start driving punches into each other’s faces! Dani and Hayden both rocked and sent stumbling back, but Dani rights herself while Hayden is teetering with blood spilling from her nose. DC moves forward and drives the ol’ 1-2, left hook/right cross into Hayden’s weakly guarded chin. HAYDEN CRASHES ONTO HER BACK. Hayden’s arms thrown out, her legs gently straighten out and she looks up at the lights with a glazed “NOBODY HOME” dreamy expression on her face.

Danielle has gone to the neutral corner. She pushes the hair off her face as she watches anxiously to see what happens with Hayden. Referee is counting. Hayden starts to stir, she lifts her head, but then she closes her eyes and lays back down. She is sleeping peacefully as the count ends in:

“NINE!...TEN!...YER OUT!”

THE WINNER DANIELLE CAMPBELL OF THE PRETTY LITTLE PUNCHERS OVER HAYDEN PANTIERRE OF FOXFIRE BOXING BY KNOCKOUT IN THE 8TH ROUND!

After: Danielle bursts into happy tears as her arm is raised is victory. Ashley Benson, Janel Parrish, and Sasha Pieterse rush out to share hugs and kisses with their stable sister. DC walks the ring waving to her fans and blowing kisses. She stops off at the Foxfire corner where Hayden has been revived. Dani hugs her.

“Oh, I am sorry you couldn’t get that Hall of Fame win, but, gosh, you fought so hard. I am so proud I beat you! You are just a wonderful fighter! I just know you’ll knock the panties off some other girl and get in the Hall!” Danielle cries in a gush of excited words.

“Yeah, I’ll have to wait to get in, I guess,” a woozy Hayden says. “You’re good kid. Good as they say. You could go all the way and get those belts.”

“You really think so? You are so wonderful to say that!” Dani says and gives Hayden another hug.

“Uhhh, say could you watch the hugs, I ‘m kind of sore,” Hayden says managing a smile.

“Oh, gosh, I am so sorry. I better go now. Thank you so much for a great fight! You are amazing Hayden. That must make me really amazing ‘ cause I beat you!” Dani says happily.

Foxfire Communications Director Beth Harnois appears in the ring as Hayden is ruefully watching Danielle rejoin her stable sisters to resume their celebrations.

“You know, she didn’t mention your bottoms, you might just forget to send them over,” Beth said.

“Naw, she earned them and, after all, what Trophy Wall wouldn’t look good with a set of Hayden’s Panties on the them,” Hayden said with a wan smile.

“I’m glad you’re taking this so well,” Beth said.

“Oh, I am mad as hell at myself for losing, but that’s boxing. I got to just put this behind me and look ahead,:” Hayden said.

“You can think about that later, come on, you missed all the excitement between Sarah and Lucy, I got to tell you about that…” Beth said as they made their way from the ring.

Quite a bout and it was a shame only one fighter could win. Hayden Panettiere certainly had her chances, esp. after she knocked Danielle Campbell down in the 8th. However it was Dani who got off the canvas and flattened Hayden to take the win. That makes Hayden 0-3 for the year. Not a position a potential Hall of Famer wants to be in so her next fight is going to be critical to righting the “Good Ship Hayden”. Meanwhile, the future never looked brighter for Danielle Campbell. Surely, a title shot cannot be far away, but with every rise in an FCBA fighter stock—there is always the chance for a sudden crash downwards. Can Danielle avoid this fate and reach the glittering prize at the top of the Flyweight Division? Fans are setting social media ablaze arguing those very questions, but the answer waiting to be learned. In the meantime, FCBA flyweight fans can relish the memory of this thrilling battle of petite punchers in their favorite division.
