Summer Glau vs Nicole Scherzinger

BEFORE: Both these veterans have fallen on hard times over the past couple of seasons however while Summer Glau remains in a genuine slump, Nicole Scherzinger has avoided the Lioness Club axe and bounced back with three successive victories before Katheryn Winnick brought her down to Earth again on the March PPV. Glau hasn't won a fight since December 2015 and it's almost hard to believe that triumph over Lyndsy Fonseca earned her a shot at the divisional title! On the other hand Scherzinger remains buried behind both Nina Dobrev and a slumping Minka Kelly on the LCA roster but targets the upcoming beach boxing season to revive old glory. Beating the Medallion brunette tonight is essential to keep herself in the spotlight though!
Summer Glau wears a navy blue bikini set and silver gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Nicole Scherzinger wears a white bikini set and red gloves. Long raven-black hair tied in a half-up ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
Both women tangle in the center of the ring and exchange rapid jabbing quickfire however the hooking follow up finds thin air and the tempo of these attacks as well as accuracy drops the longer the dispute continues. Nicole's the first to try her chances downstairs but Summer blocks her off and lands a nasty hook on the lips while swinging from the back foot. Nicole's guard has been badly exposed before to the point Tess Valmore called her "the worst flyweight in the FCBA" but she recovers from this one-off issue and tackles Glau to the body which forces the fellow brunette to seek respite in mid-distance. Nicky's not in the mood to chase her down and the round concludes soon afterwards.
Round 2:
The real boxing quality remains at large here despite plenty of spirited efforts from both sides. Nicole struggles to split Summer's high guard repeatedly and gets blocked off to the body while the Medallion brunette just can't land her shots properly and grazes the flesh instead of lashing out in confidence-building fashion. Scherzinger uses her dancer legs to cause some havoc down the stretch as the usually very reliable on her feet Glau struggles to find her rhythm but these single punches make no difference whatsoever and Nicky's extremely fortunate she doesn't get blasted on the counter herself. Another lenghty duck & weave display ends this round on a low-key fashion and the crowd isn't exactly buzzing in approval here.
Round 3:
Summer gets more aggressive early in the third and drills a couple of promising harpoons belows the singer's elbows alas Nicky holds her ground and whacks the younger woman across the lips before rattling her temples from both flanks. Ugh! Summer's slow to cover up this time and wobbles onto her heels which allows the Hawaiian-native to deliver a proper head-hunting blast that reels Glau onto the ropes once she stops three... make that four hooks with her face! The crowd wakes up in response to this sudden push and Nicole traps her foe along the ropes with a sustained close range pressure. She remains committed to splitting Summer's guard and rocks her head back & forth several times to the point the Medallion brunette begins to yelp in discomfort but there's just no raw strenght avaliable from Scherzinger who's unable to drop her for the count despite an otherwise golden opportunity. Bell saves the stricken Glau from more problems and Nicole spits out her gumshield in frustration once coach Eva Mendes tells her: "U HAD her, Nicky! I'd have laid her OUT already!"
Round 4:
Glau struggles to recover from that poor previous round and even her once elite agility has deserted her but Scherzinger just can't make her dominant display count throughout the round. She beats the fellow brunette for pace and sheer numbers but becomes too predictable in her head-hunting attacks and fails to gut-check the reeling opponent. It's all on Nicky's terms here however Summer escapes the true punishment in a hectic defensive display that's a far cry from her glory days. The slump is real and Erin Andrews reckons Glau isn't the cherished gatekeeper anymore; she sticks some single punches against the run of play but ends the round bruied on the ropes with Nicole thumping her through the middle amid vocal signs of frustration. A late blow on the temple earns the Hawaiian singer a lecture from the ref while coach Mendes remains silent during the break because both women in the LCA corner realize what should be done here next!
Round 5:
Nicole reigns supreme in the early stages following a nasty hook on the nasal ridge that glues Summer to the spot. The Medallion brunette couldn't escape the close range tangle anymore and pays a heavy price when the Hawaiian native finally dissects her high guard from the onset; she clips Nicole's chin a couple of times but there's no stopping the former Pussycat Doll here and she hauls in a nasty hook on the ear followed by a good uppercut on the jaw that slumps Glau onto jelly knees. Her feet stay behind and as she tries to swing one over the top, Scherzinger BLASTS her on the nose again to drop the gloves by the wayside. Uh-oh! Summer shrieks out in pain but more importantly, briefly loses her focus briefly and eats a CRUNCHING hook on the left temple THAT SENDS HER CRASHING FACE-DOWN on the canvas moments later!!! Nicole yells out in delight and duly struts back to her corner while Summer's left for dead in the center of the ring. She tries to push herself off both arms but the dizziness takes over and she collapses down on the boards again to rise no more! KO5 Nicole Scherzinger!!!
AFTER: Lioness coach Eva Mendes nods back at the fellow brunette but still claims she'd have knocked poor Summer out much sooner. "You wish!", Nicole can finally afford herself a wry smile in response but Erin Andrews thinks the Hawaiian veteran is far from catching a second wind at the back nine of her boxing career. Tonight's result indicates that Summer Glau has lost her gatekeeping spark and finds herself in the company of Jaime Pressly or Jessica Alba as former household names in a sharp decline. It's just not happening for the Medallion stalwart anymore!
Meanwhile Nicole simply can't wait for the beach boxing season to officially open next month! Eva Mendes confirms the Lionesses have plans to travel to Waimea Bay real soon where Nicole can showcase her talents on home sand again: "That should lift the CBAD viewing numbers through the roof!"
