BEFORE:
"I should have won my last time here," says Anna with a shake of the head. "And, the time before that. Well. Third time's a charm. This time, I'll make no mistake."
"See," says Jane with a hard-eyed look, "She's already MADE a mistake, signing to fight ME."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Bad Things' by Jace Everett, and here comes one of the stars of 'X-Men', Anna Paquin!"
Tess: "And, Anna mentioned the previous times she's been here to Philly, and, for those of you who DON'T know, Ms. Paquin's Asylum debut came on June 23rd, 2012, a most auspicious night here at the Asylum..."
Cassie: "Aw, THANKS, BFF!"
Tess: "As it was the broadcast team debut of one Cassandra Lynn Scerbo!"
McCarthy: "Easy, stomach. Don't turn over now. Easy, boy..."
O'Dell (sighing): "Anna into the ring and helped off with the robe. She's wearing that blue and white checked bikini we've seen before, and that's 'Pleasant Nightmare' by Alih Jey hammering through the arena, and that can only mean that 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy, is on her way to the ring!"
McCarthy: "And, tonight's question is 'Which overrated Front Street flyweight is climbing in with a tomato can with NO FCBA wins..."
O'Dell: "Jane, as usual, wasting no time getting down the aisle and into the ring. She's helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that peach bikini she prefers. And, the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Jane. Mac?"
McCarthy: "NO FCBA wins. Levy."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Unanimous for our first fight of the night. Let's see if the ladies are right. Paquin right to the jab. Anna a tall flyweight and she's using that height and reach early. She's got Jane out on the end of her punches, and she's working to keep her there. Canadian getting into a rhythm early... "
Cassie: "Problem with Paquin has never been smarts. She knows what she's doing in there."
O'Dell: "And, you're seeing that right now. Levy being frustrated at the moment. Can't work past the older woman's defenses and get to where she can get any offense going. Shorter redhead obviously wants to close, but Anna having none of it here in the first round, as she uses the feet and the left hand."
Tess: "Doing a good job of putting punches together, too."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Jane's managing to land a single shot here and there, but it's Paquin who's scoring in combination. We're down to the final thirty seconds of the first round, and it's been a heck of a start for the blonde. Ten seconds left, good one-two from Anna and there's the bell. Paquin. Wide."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Paquin right back to work as we start the second. She's got everything working at the moment. Levy continuing to get picked up as she moves forward, that jab continuing to land in her face, stopping her attempts to close, leaving her out there for follow on right hands from Paquin..."
McCarthy: "And, that's the key part. That jab can STOP you. And, when you get stopped, you're easy to find. And, that's what Paquin's doing to Levy right now."
O'Dell: "And, as we mentioned, the footwork is key here, too. Paquin giving a little ground here and there, moving laterally, putting all of that together to maintain the distance she wants, keep the redhead from being able to get past her pickets and into the main body of her forces."
Cassie: "And, it's that little bit of backward motion that can be important. Some fighters, they only back up when they're in trouble. Good ones, they'll give canvas when they WANT to, not just when they NEED to."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in what's been another good round for Anna Paquin. Levy slips inside, works a little body. Anna ties her up, shoves her off, circles back, gets a nice combination on target and there's the bell. Some smiles from Paquin's corner, and there should be. Another wide round to Anna."
Tess: "And, she's up 20-18 early."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third begins the way the first two have gone, with Paquin at range, enforcing same with that jab. Jane again working forward, has the hands high now, the chin tucked, working past the blonde's defenses to bang some body. Paquin banging back, trying to get some space, but now it's not happening."
Cassie: "Levy's made an adjustment with the glove and head position and it's paying off."
O'Dell: "For the moment, at least. Redhead in the phone booth, banging away at the body. Paquin trying to shove her off, using that back step, but Jane simply stepping right back to, not giving any breathing room to the older woman. And, she is WORKING some body right now, ladies..."
Tess: "That's definitely Campbell/Dennings stuff you're seeing right now. She's THUMPING away in there."
O'Dell: "Paquin trying to tie up, but Levy punching free, getting right back to work. Going upstairs now for a hard flurry that backed Anna up a step. Right back to the ribs and midsection goes the redhead. Already starting to pink the Canadian up. She's making a serious investment here in the third. And, there's the bell. Levy. Wide."
McCarthy: "But, Paquin's still up 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Levy again forward after Paquin. Anna tying her up immediately now, wrestling with the redhead in there, working to force a break and does so. Jane wasting no time stepping to again, but, once again, Anna ties her up when she gets in there, hangs on, forces a break and a reset."
McCarthy: "Good strategy for Paquin, denying Levy the chance to pile up points on the inside."
O'Dell: "And, to a point, it's working. Blonde limiting Jane's opportunities while creating restarts that are allowing her to score from range like she did in the first two rounds. Result is that neither girl is getting all of what she wants, but both are getting some, and that's making this the most competitive round of the fight."
Tess: "And, also the sloppiest. An awful lot of clinching and wrestling going on and not a lot of punching."
O'Dell: "Heading into the final seconds of the round. Levy inside, working some body. Anna ties up. Referee steps in to break. Paquin doubling up the jab, making Levy work hard to get back inside. Jane does. Lands a couple of short hooks and there's the bell. Close, but Anna gets the points."
Cassie: "And Paquin back up two, 39-37."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Pattern set as we roll into the fifth. Paquin wants space, Levy wants to get into the booth and bang. And it's Jane getting inside early to work some body. Anna tying up, but Levy leveraging, shoving her off, working that midsection, thumping those ribs. Anna tying up again, but Levy NAILS her with a right hook to the chin..."
Cassie: "THAT got Anna's attention."
O'Dell: "No doubt, and, for the first time, Levy getting Paquin into reverse here. Anna being backed up by hard flurries from the redhead, who's getting into a rhythm of her own. Paquin trying to tie up, but Levy wrestling free, punching free, shoving free, and continuing to bang away."
McCarthy: "Paquin needs to figure this out right now, because she's getting THUMPED."
O'Dell: "No question about it. Fifteen seconds left in the first half of the fight, and Jane Levy's taking control of it. GOOD right hand from Jane forces Paquin to cover up. Levy goes right back to the body, really pinking it up now as she works the ribs with hooks right to the bell. Levy. Wide."
Tess: "And, she cuts Anna's lead to 48-47 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Levy working forward with the gloves up and the head tucked, she's crowding Paquin, banging away at the body, getting very physical now as Anna tries in vain to get some space to box. Older woman again tying up, but getting shoved off and ROCKED WITH A RIGHT HAND!"
McCarthy: "Typical underhanded Dancing Hooker stuff!"
O'Dell: "Paquin covering up, taking a LOAD of leather from Levy, who's going all in. Redhead not giving up on the body, still banging away downstairs in spots, then going back up looking for the finisher. She's got Paquin on the ropes and THERE'S A RIGHT HOOK AND DOWN GOES ANNA!"
Tess: "Nasty punch. Nasty."
O'Dell: "Jane wasting no time getting to a neutral corner. Blonde down on her right side parallel to the ropes. Count at three. Four. Five. Paquin pushes to hands and knees, grabs the middle rope, trying to climb to her feet. Seven. Eight. Not going to get it done. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Anna still trying to climb the ropes and it's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy."
Cassie: "Nice finishing. That's something Jane's proven she's getting really good at."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Jane Levy, and, Jane, looked like she surprised you early..."
Jane (shaking her head): "Actually, she didn't. We knew she was going to try to get distance and box at range. And, we had a plan to deal with it. But, you know, HAVING a plan and executing it are two different things. She made it hard to execute."
Tess: "But, you found a way to get that done."
Jane: "Yeah. Found some openings and then got rolling, and that's what you've got to do in those situations. Just keep working until you find something, and, when you do, don't waste the opportunity."
