BEFORE:
"I can beat people at this level," says a hard-eyed Lea. "I've done it. I've just never gotten opportunities HANDED to me like SOME girls have. And, I'm going to beat up ONE of those girls tonight!"
"You know," says Jennette with a smile, "It's not MY fault Lea's never been good enough to get management. But, what happens to her tonight WILL be my fault."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Gives You Hell' by All-American Rejects, and here comes The Bronx's own Lea Michele!"
Tess: "Remember the last time Lea was here, BFF?"
Cassie: "You mean when I pointed out that Mac almost flunked kindergarten because she couldn't make finger turkeys?"
McCarthy: "Those scissors were BLUNT! And, shut up, BOTH of you!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, and then get your eyes back on the ring, where Lea's being helped off with the robe to reveal that pink number we've seen before and a body that's been worked into VERY good shape for this one. And, that's 'Lust For Life' by Iggy Pop you hear hammering through the arena, and here comes 'The Answer', Jennette McCurdy!"
McCarthy: "I can't IMAGINE where Weirdo comes up with these STUPID nicknames..."
Tess: "McCurdy one of the Front Street girls working tonight who's coming off a tough loss. She needs to get back on track tonight or risk getting buried in a crowded flyweight division here in Philly."
O'Dell: "Jennette into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that black and white striped number we've seen before. And, we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Jennette. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Both of these fighters are tomato cans, but McCurdy's probably a little better. Jennette."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "It's unanimous. Let's see if the ladies are right. No surprise with the tactics early, as the athletic Lea takes to her bicycle and begins moving. Jennette more about getting physical here, wants to close off the ring, bring the brunette to battle, but Michele not having any of it early."
McCarthy: "Like you said, not a surprise, but a good strategy for Lea. We saw how aggressive McCurdy gets against Roberts..."
O'Dell: "Did, indeed, and we're seeing that again now. Blonde trying to pressure, looking to get some hard leather on. But, Michele frustrating that, staying on the move, using the jab to slow Jennette, keeping her at bay. Brunette not exactly lighting up the scoreboard, either, but she's doing enough."
Tess: "At the moment, she is. No question, she's getting the better of things."
O'Dell: "Final seconds of a tactical first, and the girl whose tactics are working best, Lea Michele, continuing to keep things under control. Brunette jabbing, dancing, using those athletic legs. Jennette maybe getting a little frustrated here, unable to get anything going right to the bell. Michele's round."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins the same way the first ended, with Lea on the move and Jennette trying to slow her down. Blonde having all SORTS of problems finding Lea at the moment. Michele sticking that left jab in McCurdy's face, stopping her with it, following on now with sharp combinations."
Cassie: "Jennette needs to watch it here. I get it. She's trying to shower off Roberts and she wants to take the fight to Lea, but she's getting too aggressive."
O'Dell: "And, that's falling perfectly into Michele's plans. Lea making the blonde pay for that aggression with sharp flurries, then getting back to the war of movement before Jennette can respond. McCurdy getting touched up quite a bit in this stanza, as Michele's taking firm control of things."
McCarthy: "Smart fighting by the brunette. She's not getting greedy. She gets off and gets GONE."
O'Dell: "Final thirty seconds of the second round. Lea dancing, reversing field, snapping that jab into the blonde's face again and again. Jennette can't find a way to work past it and cut the ring. Ten seconds to go. GOOD combination by Lea and there's the bell. Wide round for Michele."
Tess: "And, Lea's up 20-18 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third begins on the same terms. McCurdy stalking, keeping the hands up now, moving laterally more, working hard to cut the ring. Managing to do it now, then thumping Michele to the head and body before Lea slips away to open canvas and makes with the jab and the legs."
Cassie: "This is more effective aggression. Jennette slowing the pursuit down a little and it's working for her."
O'Dell: "No question about it. Michele still getting work done, though. She's still having stretches of being able to work that jab and stay in open ocean, and, she's getting points scored when she does that. But, McCurdy, for the first time, able to get some of what SHE wants and she's not wasting those opportunities."
Tess: "Blonde definitely getting the better of the heavy exchanges, Jenny."
O'Dell: "Heading down the stretch here in the third. Close round for the first time in the bout. McCurdy cutting the ring, working the body, landing a solid left hook to the head. Michele ties up, slips away, going to leg away the final seconds of the round. There's the bell. Close to Jennette."
McCarthy: "Michele still leads, 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "McCurdy starting to get the geometry down now. She's getting the brunette closed off and forcing her to give battle. Blonde working body, going back upstairs, then back down. Lea trying to tie her up to slow her down, but Jennette levering, punching free, landing hard shot."
Tess: "These aren't the terms Lea wants to fight this on..."
O'Dell: "But, those terms are being dictated by the blonde right now. She's got the brunette's timing down and she's cutting the ring brilliantly. She's getting her punches put together very well, landing short hooks and straight right hands, throwing Lea over to the defensive almost completely."
McCarthy: "Lea's got to fire back here, punch for respect."
O'Dell: "Might not be a bad idea, but it's not happening. Instead, the brunette's backing and covering, trying to slip away so that she can get back to the war of movement, but it's not happening. Jennette all OVER Michele in the final seconds, landing a HARD left hook right at the bell! Jennette, wide."
Cassie: "And, there's some bounce in McCurdy's step on the way back to the corner. She's evened things up at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Into the fifth and there's more aggression from the blonde. Jennette's got it going now, and she's rolling over Lea. Michele in full retreat as Jennette's getting more and more heavy leather home. HARD right hand from Jennette snaps back the brunette's head and McCurdy follows with a blazing flurry..."
Cassie: "She's absolutely FEELING it right now, Jenny!"
O'Dell: "And, she's not the ONLY one feeling it at the moment, because Lea's feeling the heavy leather that's landing to both face and body. McCurdy a HARD right hook, and that shook Lea! Michele covers up again and GETS CAUGHT BY A VICIOUS RIGHT UPPERCUT AND DROPPED!"
Tess: "You might want to go ahead and start singing, BFF..."
O'Dell: "Lea down on her back, eyes closed. Jennette to a neutral corner and not exactly hurrying. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Absolutely no movement from Michele. Six. Seven. Eight. This is all a formality. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And, your winner by KO5 in scintillating fashion is 'The Answer', Jennette McCurdy!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Jennette McCurdy, and, Jennette, little bit of a slow start tonight, but, once you got rolling..."
Jennette (nodding): "Yeah. I got too aggressive with her early. Wanted to get that bad taste out of my mouth. But, the corner settled me down and I got to work. And, once I did that, well. You saw."
Tess: "Two fights in July, which is pretty rare for a Front Street fighter. I assume you'll be getting some down time..."
Jennette: "That's up to management. If they want me to go in August, I'm ready." |
