I. Bantamweight

KIRA KOSARIN (20 y/o, 5 ft 6, W: 13, L: 5) vs CLAIRE DANES (39 y/o, 5 ft 5 ½ , W: 93, L: 52)

Before: Claire Danes, that ageless fighter: her hall of fame career’s produced 150 fights and six titles across a span from 2002 to 2016, and even just shy of 40, she’s still as hungry as ever to dish out beatings to cocky youngsters. Since her last title reign two years ago, Danes has lost to a trio of top young bantams (Mitchell, Bellisario, Scodelario – three girls who coincidentally have all fallen to Kira already), then won over Lovato. She also narrowly missed a title shot after opponent Van Camp lost hers before the Danes match-up in June. “If you look up hubris in the dictionary, don’t go looking under H…it’s probably at the letter K right now,” Danes lectures the press pre-fight. “Kira’s a hot young thing, sure, but don’t get into thinking she’s anywhere ready for my slick boxer’s prowess.” – Kosarin ate veteran smack during past July PPV, as a series of butt-kickings over Chimera girls ended with a pretty shocking loss to Charlize Theron’s still-slick g.o.a.t. credentials. “I’m not letting myself get stopped by another old woman,” Kira says, though, apparently meaning what she says.

R1: Kira stepping in with the skewed jabs, keying it in toward Claire’s left eye, tik-tokkin’ her veteran a wicked poke…Danes circumspect, keeping head/torso in motion on bobbin’ legs, strapping timed counter-rights across the Kosarin left with plenty of oomph, circling out across Kira’s right with sly pivots to walk out of the lefties. Kosarin’s jab more aggressive, fast-tempo – Danes’ right more effective in the sprucin’-up-brunette-face business. Kira’s jab, hooks sock to Claire’s flanks across first minute, early second as Danes manages the aspiring Kosarin attacks due to legginess, bringing in extra lefts next to her counter rights, neatly tugging Kira’s tummy via jabs, hooks…whup, and there goes the right hand, Danes to Kosarin’s mouth! Kira’s eyes betraying hurt: she quickly leads her jabs toward Claire’s right-torso instead, trying to counter more of blonde rights. Short, stompin’ uppercut, Kosarin, plopping to Claire’s safe guard, then followed by the right hook-into-belly to detain Danes in her place, where she’s ready for her chompin’ lefty uppercut! Kira’s aggression, tempo paying off nicely across mid-way of round…Danes troubled by Kira’s fast-moving jabwork, not pivoting out of range as smoothly as her game plan was…some pick-ups to Claire’s face happening, when Danes bobs clockwise too late…Kira’s SPIKING JABS underneath Claire’s left eye during these spots. Down the stretch, Danes sorts those top legs together, becoming her usual elusive self…she creates the right range, letting Kira expose herself in trying to close out distance, scrub her some well-placed counter hooks across belly, face, flanks on her way in. Veteran, rookie opening battle in lockstep quality…judges like Danes’s constant ring adjustments, though, have her up in early lead on the cards.

R2: Kosarin sprints into charge, strutting, loping smoothly behind her straight jabs/flinging hooks to lead Claire into reverse, contain proud veteran in rope-side positions as blonde slides to right along cables, leaning torso away from Kira’s explosive lefts…the jab’s stitching forward from Kira’s outside range as blonde wilts, defends. Most of first minute: the long-armed poke, Kira…Danes too passive, right-at-head, her dangled left at elbow mostly unused, rolling-with Kosarin’s motions in the pocket, not getting off, though, out-tempoed this round by youthful brunette energy. Passive strategy brings Claire into trouble – Kira’s mitts keep licking veteran meat…one-two delivery to blonde’s neck/head, shoulder-dipping hooks into tummy/boobs…sumptuous stuff as Kira bends, twists into these clouts, leaving no doubt she’s intending to ruin her older opponent to the bod here. Mid-way point: Kira takes half-steps closer…a mean, short-shrugging jab catching blonde near/on left eye, lifting Danes’ upper back into cables. Claire stabilizes, forming an apparently leg-strong stance, but she’s suffering here…crossed-armed bobs from Danes on the spot, left hand tucked into armpit, right over on left cheek as Kira steps, leans into lashing, rising lefties to her face. Minute three, and Claire’s eye’s swelling rapidly…Kira directs her jabs there AND CLAIRE GOES DOWN! Kosarin comes in over the left, the lefty hook pasting past Claire’s right arm to detonate in wild, shrugged fashion on left frontal bone! Ugly head-kink from Claire, her back sagging into ropes, perplexed look on face as her knees suddenly give way under her…yep, Claire Danes is on all fours here, and Kira’s strutting smugly to the other corner, eyes flashing wild. Danes rallyin’, taking most of her count…she’s up and hopping, nodding to ref in time…oh, Claire’s forehead/eye’s busted up, swelling…Kira wades in, jabs prepping, right crosses off jab stinging for Danes’s head…bell couldn’t come at a better time for out-fought veteran here.

R3: Whirlwind-ish activity from Kosarin, stepping into her long-armed poke to bring Claire into further trouble…Danes miserable from suffered knockdown, forehead lumping up nicely, turns right shoulder towards brunette, pedaling away from young brawn. Kira brimming with punch lust, badass confidence, nicely tugging ‘em shorty hooks across the Danes gut, flanks, jumping into fierce, battering left-jabs to pretty blonde face, her braid bouncing left/right across wide, tanned back in tune with her rolling shoulders, pumping arms – hot stuff! Across first minute, we see moments of Claire hunching, stooping off ropes in suffering mode, both hands at mouth as Kira’s shooting pik-pak body-jabs-to-tits draw miserable groans from veteran. Kira looking patient, thorough as she’s stepping into her long-jabs, nicely pounding ‘em upside Danes’ eyes, all heartless rookie. Second minute coming, drawing close…similar images, but Claire’s operative, rolling alongside Kira’s attacking motions, tyin’/hangin’ up on strong brunette arms/shoulders in spots, holding up rookie onslaught via clock. Down the stretch…shutout Kosarin continues, but Danes is starting to read the jab trajectory better, securing to make her forehead/temple more elusive for greedy brunette…no, Claire’s not fleeing from Kira, but shifting, stepping around her, turning Kira into more of a stalker, as blonde’s legs start flowing again. Bell: Kira’s button eyes wide, pleased as she’s marching to corner but she’s got to ask herself why her third-round shutout hasn’t been more effective in terms of actual results…Claire on her stool, lumping forehead aside, is looking pretty determined here.

R4: Kosarin’s jab back at it, jabbing counter-clockwise from mid-ring stance on wait-and-see Claire Danes…Claire flat-footed, shoulders shimmying, anticipating Kira’s orderly punchwork to roll-with, sneak out counter motions now. Danes finally no longer passive, weaving against jab attacks, slipping out from straight-rights to drop instant righty hooks in Kira’s flank/tummy, posting short, drifting right-hand contact with Kira’s boobs. Claire’s educated jabs returning as she’s trying to make Kira move her feet, make her give up strong, jabbing positions – tidy, fast lefts to Kosarin’s mouth, neck checking brunette reflexes, dousing some badass fire…feigned retreats walk Kira into answer poke to right flank/torso, solid thumpin’ veteran jug-hurt. Missing rights hands from Kira over Claire’s right shoulder, some blonde hooks catching rookie between the mitts…no doubt: Claire’s laying ground work for a turnaround here, playing masterful tutor versus zealous rookie. Kira’s tempo, power making round close despite Claire’s slickness…whuppin’ right hand into solarplexus clearly hurting Danes to the bod, lefty jabs to guard/jaw keeping her on toes…judges rightfully pay attention to Claire’s boxer quality, award her the round for old-fashioned counter effectiveness. Post-bell: Claire’s slight grin on stool a reaction to Kira’s foot-stamping to corner…blonde veteran likes sight of brunette shaking head, being pissed off at what Claire’s doing in the ring and her inability to stop it.

R5: Danes trying to play cat and mouse in the ring…she’s luring Kira forward on bobbin’ legs, low hands, feintin’ torso motions, counter-stepping her brunette in slick fashion. Kosarin’s fists have a different plan: brunette unleashes via the left, battering ‘em in short, jolting punches, relentless, never stoppin’ the pump…Claire doing her thing with the shifts, turns, offering the odd flank to Kira, trying to stop her with counters of left hooks, thumping right hands…but it’s Kira getting thru, socking ‘em to Claire’s neck, a couple hooks to tits, a leaned-in right hand kissing the Danes jawline. Claire’s legginess gets stopped the hard way: blonde starts pedaling away around minute mark, forming reluctant defensive stances, back hitting ropes. Kira hard-working now, starting from a concentrated stance, right at mouth, left sticking out: throbbing drum-work pressure patting the Danes gut and flanks – short, hard punches treat Claire shabby. Upstairs, Kira’s bringing in more precise uppercuts, forcing blonde’s head to go all pendulum to avoid the whacks…Kira’s in the groove, though, making Claire’s face, lower jaw lines sponging up solid palms-down contact to chin! Danes dismal at the bell…her mouth’s open in exhaustion and she’s breathing hard on her stool, back relaxing into turnbuckle to recover during break.

R6: Kira forces her body on Claire inside with authority early, the rookie smelling blood, opening a new frontline against her experienced foe…bantam beauties grind down against each other, and Kira’s embedding herself on top of smaller Claire in ruthless fashion! Lefty hooks sinking in behind Danes’ right elbow, righties chopping into ribs…Kosarin’s eyes seething with brutality, confidence, she’s loving the grimaces, soft moans from manhandled blonde! Danes’ butt propped onto cables more and more in spots, stooping forward to tie up Kira in the clinch – Kosarin denies her, forehead hunched onto Claire’s rack, allowing blonde only to drape arms around her shoulders, wrists crossed behind, both girls stumbling one step on, one step back, mostly at Kira’s will, proving stronger girl body-to-body. Positions work out well for rookie brunette across minutes one, two: she’s a-clubbin’ Claire’s firm tummy, pik-pak, pik-pak…she’s maneuvering Danes into shifting positions to keep one hand at small back, one hand whuppin’ tummy/ribs…it’s a devastating attack on Claire’s core, legs.

Grunts, pants from locked-up Danes, her eyes glassy, devastated as she’s trying to get out of Kira’s pins…last minute arriving, winding down to similar images…even when ref breaks too-hotly-entwined girls apart, Kira nestles, jostles on top, leaning forward to stoop Danes into cables. Just down the stretch, Claire’s finally shifted her hips a bit to Kira’s right side, shunting brunette torso into parallel-to-ropes position via hip-to-hip motions…there’s room for Claire’s left opening! Kira’s face still positioned just off Claire’s tits, body hunched… the blonde’s arm’s wiggling free, and she’s spanking short-range strikes via the left-handed uppercut pump! Two, three bashes into right side of Kira’s unprotected face: startled brunette head jerking hard on impact…suddenly, she’s pitching down onto her face, collapsing across Claire’s front! Groggy Danes takes a step back, staring at Kira’s body sliding down with no expression in her eyes, the ref nudging tottering blonde into own corner. A flabbergasted Kira picks her head off the canvas ground in rickety confusion, propping one knee up, then the other one, aching to sit on one leg, her eyes glassy, swaying…but she beats the count! Clock running off before girls can get back together…camps running hot to get fighters ready for more mayhem, Kira all shocked, in disgust, seeming not entirely lucid on her stool.

R7: Tattered bantam beauties weary, exhausted…action slack, flat early in round, as girls circle in earmuff guard, fall into clinches on first contact, tying up, pushing forward. Kira fresher, more active despite shocking knockout flirt last round – she’s pivoting around Claire via seasoned double jab, steering blonde into turns via left shoulder, poking smooth right hands thru to mouth, slinging righty hooks inside the Danes jab, tucking in them shots to ribs/tummy. Claire rigid, rallying in spots…stout-ish left hands to mid-section, counter-rolling to trade rights with Kosarin. Kira’s best moments late in round secure her advantage: dipping her shoulders left/right, she’s strappin’ healthy licks to blonde rack through forearms, puttyin’ those jugs, while jabs, jabs tap against the raised guard…she’s got the blonde mouth-breathing, wincing shouts of pain. Claire’s legs not ready to reclaim ring generalship here…she plays the veteran card, leaving trail to ropes where she can stabilize, answer back via bashing right hands against Kira’s skull outside jab trajectories. Down the stretch, Claire’s in robust shape, but judges like Kira’s youthful gait, those clockwise jabs more.

R8: Kira’s jabs coming in strong, slapping ‘em, driving Claire into pocket stances, tapping to guard, slipping her rights to torso…Danes’ left’s here to compete, though. Masterful veteran comebacks across minute one against orderly brunette set-ups: she’s moving-with, out-tempoing younger brunette’s lefts, throbbing Kira’s mouth, fresh cheeks with incoming jabs…blonde’s tacking torso to left, countering a Kosarin right with own rights to breasts in bumping fashion…on her way in, she also splutters the lefty uppercut crashing to chin, grazin’ it…instantly, strong-legged Kira’s in trouble, tottering on the spot! Kosarin turns to bob and weave, determined to repel Claire via the lefty pump, throw explosive hooks off it, marching forward in clockwork pivots despite chin check…Claire blocks punches via right forearm, rubbing the counter left uppercut across jaw line in gotcha fashion…Kira’s hurt again! Brunette pedals onto heels, back shy off ropes now, eyes showing startled expression at development…she forms crossed-arm defense, right hand at left cheek, left tucked into right elbow, strong/athletic body suddenly unable to get out of blonde’s pinning, digging-in…Claire moves into payback zone for Kira’s humiliating inside work from round six!

Methodical belly work, clubbing shots to temples, wow…Kira’s butt shoved into cable, torso stooping forward, relegated to try tying up around Claire’s shoulders…no, no, Claire’s short, stubby jabs to tits say, rebuffing slack-limbed Kosarin back into ropes. Oh, that HEARTLESS palm-down righty hammer tugs in behind Kira’s left elbow, chup-chup, grueling body shot twists the brunette’s face into pain…drops ‘er hands to hug gut….and, what the…, COLLAPSES HER to furl into heap on the ground on her left arm, left leg! … Kira’s awake, scrambling, her arms groping canvas ground, writhing onto her belly with a moan, finally stumbling onto all fours…she beats the count, but she’s in heartbreaking shape! Claire Danes steps-to like a pro, her eyes hardening into steely, finish-her glance…she’s pitching pik-pak sling shots underneath the Kosarin jug line now, as Kira pedals to ropes on autopilot, erupting into soft moans whenever Claire’s fists connect with her jug line, her arms loose/slack in semi-guard. Poor brunette staring into the harm, mouth open in shock, eyes moist: Claire’s feinting the straight right uppercut, Kira moves accordingly, then jack-knifes the left into Kira’s right side of face in bashing fashion, and THE REF STEPS IN, cradling a helpless, devastated Kira into his arms, struggling to hold loose brunette deadweight against him. One of the worst rounds of Kira’s young upward career ends in a brutal TKO8 at the hands of Claire friggin’ Danes!

After: Veteran vs rookie – it’s a never-ending story, and what a veteran show-of-force it ended up being tonight, as Charlize Theron and Claire Danes go back-to-back with devastating late-round knockouts of ambitious, title-hungry Kira Kosarin. Kira’s performance smooth, refined for most of fight – she had Claire on the brink several times tonight, until blonde brought it all together in a stunning round eight, one of the best rounds of Claire Danes boxing in years. Post-fight, Kira’s too dished to argue the stoppage, tears welling up in ref’s arms already as Bonzo team leads her out of the arena fast. “Kira’s a fire-crackin’ little brunette bitc*h,” Claire says with a sly smile. “But you can’t go body on me like Kira did in that sixth round and not expect me to kick her cute friggin’ butt over the ring for it. Now she knows whose body is harder. Oh, and I want Scodelario. Girl stole my title fight, you know.” – First fight of the event leaves Bonzo grandees, vip invited guests in silent shock – oh, Claire Danes knows how to ruin a party.
