BEFORE:
"Look," says Angie with a lovely smile, "I can still do this, and you aren't having a redhead card around here without THE redhead on it. Period."
"She's got size and power," says Gemma with a nod. "She's dangerous. But, I need to get back in there and get back on track. And, that's exactly what I plan to do."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusik' by Mozart, and here comes the most iconic redheaded supermodel of all time, Angie Everhart!"
McCarthy: "I LOVE that Mozart guy! I have ALL his albums!"
Cassie: "I'm not surprised. I mean, I'm sure you went to see him in concert when you were little..."
McCarthy: "You LITTLE..."
Tess (laughing): "That was almost too easy, but still worth it!"
McCarthy: "Shut UP, Walmart!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, as Angie is helped off with the robe to reveal a blue bikini and a body that makes just about any 20-year-old on the planet jealous..."
McCarthy: "Nothin' but a number!"
O'Dell: "And, that's 'London Calling' by the Clash you hear behind us, and that means 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton, is on her way to the ring!"
Tess: "And, Arterton talked about needing to get back on track. She's coming off that upset loss to Ritter, and she definitely needs a win tonight."
O'Dell: "Gemma into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that violet two piece we've seen before, and we're ready for some picks. Tess likes Gemma. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Everhart's won some big fights in the FCBA. Angie."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, there's the bell. Angie wants to go gun platform here, and she's working that long, long left jab early. Everhart a veteran, knows what she's about in there. She's accurate with the jab and she's causing all SORTS of problems for Gems with it right now. Arterton being kept out of range..."
Tess: "Angie's got some nice reach here, and she's using it very well."
O'Dell: "Most certainly is. She's keeping Gemma at bay, pretty much. Arterton looking to angle, slip to punching range, but she's unable to get there and is mostly short on everything as a result. Redhead has the geometry down in a major way right now and she's getting everything going very quickly."
Cassie: "That's my GIRL right there."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in the first, and it's been almost all Angie. Gemma can't get the distance she wants, can't get to her spots. Ten seconds left. GOOD combination by Everhart that got the brunette's attention. Gemma covering up at the bell. Wow. That was a great first round for Angie, who takes it wide."
McCarthy: "Nothin' but a number."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second starts with Arterton showing more movement. She's doing a little circling now, looking to make Angie turn. Angling off that, getting to spots and getting off. First sustained offense we've seen from the brunette. Able to put punches together now. Redhead being forced to the defensive."
Cassie: "Arterton's got a lot of power for a lightweight, so, Angie knows she has to be careful."
O'Dell: "Redhead not giving any ground. She's still working with that jab trying to enforce range, but she's not getting that done. Instead, Gems getting the geometry she wants right now, and it's making all the difference. Redhead getting preempted here, forced to cover up."
McCarthy: "Arterton had better not get too aggressive with Everhart's power."
O'Dell: "Brunette seemingly aware of that. Staying very, very sound. But. She's got it rolling as we head into the final seconds of the round. Tale of two rounds so far, with Everhart dominating the first and Arterton doing the same to the second. Five seconds to go, and there's the bell. Gemma. Wide."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Arterton back at it in the third. She's found something that works now and she's sticking with it. Angie again being thrown to the defensive, working on the counter as Gemma gets to spots and preempts her offense and THERE'S A GOOD RIGHT HAND BY EVERHART! That got Arterton's attention!"
McCarthy: "THAT's the welter power I've been talking about!"
O'Dell: "And, Angie now letting the hands go and backing up Gemma. Arterton doesn't seem to be hurt, perhaps a little buzzed, but she's in retreat as the big redhead throws bombs in there. Arterton not going to try to stand in there against that. Instead, she's playing defense and letting Angie call the tune."
Tess: "And, Everhart's piling up points while she does it. She's landing some good stuff."
O'Dell: "Most certainly is. Into the final seconds of the third round, and, it's been all Angie since that big right hand. Redhead getting big on the brunette, backing her up over and over again. Arterton countering in spots, not getting run out of the ring, but, at the bell, no question, it's Angie and wide."
Cassie: "And Everhart's back up 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Everhart coming forward to start the fourth. She's walking Arterton down behind that long left jab, following with hard rights. Gemma keeping the hands up, giving ground, working in counter. No question the power of the big redhead foremost in her mind right now, Mac..."
McCarthy: "Yeah, and what SHOULD be foremost in her mind is that she's coming off a huge upset loss and a second straight loss for Flavor Of The Month Weirdo might just send her out the DOOR."
O'Dell: "Angie fighting lead, backing up Arterton. Gemma showing lateral movement, trying to stay off square, and LANDING A HARD RIGHT HAND COUNTER! Angie wobbled and Arterton lets the hands go! BIG left hook! Angie stumbling backward and DOWN SHE GOES after a straight right hand!"
Tess: "That does NOT look good, BFF..."
Cassie: "Big Red will get UP!"
O'Dell: "Angie on her right side as Gemma heads to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Everhart rolls to her belly. Six. Seven. Angie pushing up to hands and knees at eight. Nine. Going to run out of time. TEN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO4 is 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Gemma Arterton, and, Gems, Angie isn't twentysomething anymore, but she can still hit."
Gemma (nodding): "Yeah. Most power of anyone I've been in with except Torv. She hits like a truck, and you have to be aware of it at all times. Makes things really difficult when you're dealing with that and all her reach."
Tess: "But, you found a way."
Gemma (smiling): "I did. But. This welter stuff...that's for the proverbial birds, Tess. Sign me up for a lightweight next time!" |
