Olivia Holt versus Sammi Hanratty
(Words: O & E / Results: Lookout!)

Before: “I shouldn’t be known for getting the beatdown of the year last year! Nobody thinks I’m ready for a title shot, and it’s all Olivia’s fault! “ Sammi looking to erase the stigma of last year’s least-appreciated award.

Olivia flabbergasted: “After I beat you your next fight was ten-titles-worth of Natalie Portman! I haven’t fought Natalie! People think I’m ready for a title because I fought four title-contenders this year, and I beat three of them! You’ve fought two and lost them both! Nobody thinks you’re ready for a title fight because YOU”RE NOT READY FOR A TITLE FIGHT!” Sammi up on her feet, Olivia ready to rise to meet her, but Sammi’s sat down before the press gets to cover some free bare-knuckle action.

Ringposts set directly in sand. Red bikini for Sammi, red gloves, hair up in a messy high pony. Olivia in her signature black scoop-top and high-waisted bottoms, black gloves, loose chin-length hair. Both fighters savvy enough to go barefoot on sand.

R1: Sammi spitting jabs while bobbing - good stiff poke to Olivia's face has her backpedalling. Hanratty stepping in with a short hook to chin: Holt can't hold canvas, hits ropes, digs in, answers back: sturdy hup-hup back and. Breathy little pants and grunts - girls working their little hearts out, bumping and banging away toe-to-toe. Heads in close, girls mouth on shoulder - tucking in furiously to offending tummy, then pulling hands back to chest in hopes of blocking some of the receipt. Olivia pretty effective off the ropes - giving good as she's getting - but Sammi appears the more lusty, the harder hitting, the stronger for having hemmed her in. Bell: Hanratty beaming - leaning in face to face to shout "HAH!" - ref has to step in as Holt shoves her face to the side.

R2: Sammi still compact, rapid, bobbing head movement elbows in. Much faster delivery for her this year, it's abrupt, muscular action - frequently off a shoulder bump or out of the bobbing crouch. Olivia a little quieter with her body - more relaxed - she'll dip to either side, give her a shoulder bump, hook her tummy, work her flanks. Plenty of spicy give and take - girls very intense as they scour away on each other. Holt the come-forward girl by a smidge - getting Hanratty to give up canvas, even coaxing her to ropes on occasion. Close, competitive, hard working round that sees Oliva even the cards.

R3: Sammi spitting a stubby jab - chipping contact hairline or mouth while scoot-stepping inside. Hanratty doubling up a nice tight hook to Holt’s, digging hooks to tummy, following up with a brawny shoulder in blonde’s chest. Olivia digging in whenever she's forced back a couple steps, hotly contesting every inch of sand in more spanking trade. Sammi clearly raising the bar early, outworking Holt, harrying the “future champ” all around the ring.

R4: Olivia firms, stands in there shoulder to shoulder, putting tidy right&lefts into Sammi's stubborn paunch, then working up-torso from there. Tight left hook to Hanratty's right ear, and a licking little right uppercut out of the crouch is pasting her properly. Holt very rough getting position inside with her head, drawing a warning for throwing her shoulder at Sammi's mouth, swinging body blows take Hanratty on her beltline. Sammi scrapping back best she can, she’s evolved into quite the little pressure fighter, but rock her back on her heels and she's not quite the same girl.

R5: Stymying Sammi like waving a red flag in front of a bull; she comes CHARGING out of her corner. Olivia covering up like a woman trying to wade through hurricane winds - Hayden baring her teeth, unleashing non-stop, giddy-up punching from both hands. Pesky, stubby jabs; herky jerk uppercuts from in close shivering off Holt's flanks. Digging hup-hup to paunch, beating precious breath from Olivia's body. Fight drifts to ropes and look at Sammi get big: leaning in on Holt to stack her up, then turning tight punches to breadbasket as blonde bleats in pain. Hanratty SO compact in there - leading with her shoulders as she curls tidy lefts and rights home: Olivia just getting bludgeoned all around the ring, steady torrent proves too much: blonde sinks slowly to her right knee as small gloves pelt off her head and shoulders. Sammi jogging all smiles to neutral corner: panting Holt takes every second she can before standing.

R6: Olivia won't have it. Pinging lead right hand a real menace to Sammi poking it straight off her shoulder coming forward or jotting it to Hanratty's hairline during tactical backpedals - stabbing contact punch setting up lashing hook to withering effect. Whenever Holt starts to turn slugger - corner gets her back on track with shouts of "JAB! JAB!" blonde controlling ring geometry when she does set up with the poke - getting harder and harder for Sammi to penetrate and work. Hannraty checking her own aggression when it becomes obvious blonde won’t give her a stand-up fight, so Holt leading more - staying strong and long, circling outside and prodding for points.

R7: Sammi pushing her way forward, but it's expensive, Olivia slowing the assault with her jab, ringing her up with right hands, then sidestepping-left around a wide, lashing hook. Holt using high one-twos to get HanrHanratty covered up, then sinking in a brutal left hook thick n' strappy behind the right elbow. Sammi very strong bodied, but these are withering blasts, crumpling her and taking her breath away for moments at a time. Olivia easing in, out and around, controlling more of the tempo, dictating more: by the midway point, she's clearly taking Hannratty apart. Right uppercut clips chin, hard right crosses slanting in and down off feints or quick jabs - turning Sammi's head aside. Lashing hooks thick to hip or bouncing off scalp, Olivia pivoting nicely around these shots, constantly changing her angle. Down the stretch, it's all too much: Hannratty eats another murderous right uppercut on her chin, then a sloshing right to her cheek as Holt reloads quick: Sammi wobbles to her right then sits down sadly on her right hip. Olivia stalking past to the neutral corner blurts "STAY DOWN!" with a warning tone as Hannratty paws at the sand. KO7 Olivia Holt to cap off a breakthrough summer!

After: Sammi keeps on knockin’, but she can’t come in. Spirited effort shows improvement, but once again, top-tier talent is able to block the determined lil’battler.
