BEFORE:
Ms Winnick with a surreal look as she lounges in her chair backstage, her eyes flashing as the reporters’ questions come in hard and fast. She’s in a good mood today, talking about her string of wins in the past few months, and her hopes of continuing this trend for the foreseeable future.

“I’ve won my last 7 fights so you could say I’m feeling pretty good these days.” She grins. “But still, I can’t be too relaxed about tonight. Candice is ten years younger and she seems like a pretty f*cking strong woman,” Winnick chuckles. “Her record is also pretty impressive so far and she seems like a very solid, tough fighter to me. Someone should sign her. Really - what are people waiting for? She’s going places. That’s why I challenged her. I’m going to have to work hard tonight, but I’m going for my 8th straight win, which should be huge for me before my clash with a former champion like Olivia Munn next week. I’m pumped!” Katheryn ends with an energetic nod.

Candice watching the blonde from her own chair, eyeing and analysing each word for any hint of weakness or overconfidence in Winnick. The thirty year old has found some recent success on the small screen with her portrayals in The Flash, and relative success in her brief career in the ring – holding a 5:2 record. Still, she smiles once Kath is done at the mic, an equal calmness and confidence in her own voice.

“I appreciate Katheryn’s compliments. It’s not every day that you get to fight someone with class in this league. And yes, someone SHOULD sign me up,” she lets out a small laugh. “As for tonight’s fight, she’s right. I’m pretty confident that I’m stronger than her, and she’s had some problems with power punchers before. I believe I’m up there with the best of the best in that department, and hopefully I can show some of that tonight and put her down. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy - we’re both tough women that’s for sure!” she laughs while looking at Katheryn’s face. “Let’s go see who’s tougher though shall we?”

A short time later and both women coming down the ramp leading to the ring in alternate fashion: Katheryn first, all dolled up and ready to rumble in her pure-white with black stripes sports bra and tights, her hair bundled into a neat ponytail up and out, rounding off the look with a white silken shawl fluttering over her shoulders. Candice going for the opposite: black tights and grey sports bra, her equally-coloured hair framed back with a hairband. The outfit’s complete with black gloves, bunched together as the referee calls them to the center for the preamble. Both girls showing plenty of class as they touch gloves with each other before heading back to respective corners. This here’s a fight between two prospective bantamweights, with ten rounds scheduled to take place. HERE we go!

ROUND 1:
Despite her confidence, Katheryn keeping Candice at arm’s length in the opening seconds, evading her frequent jabs and making her look like an amateur by comparison. Perhaps it’s a good strategy to tire Patton out before lunging in for the kill, but Kath forgets that Candice is equally fresh at this point, and let’s not forget, she’s younger by a mile as well. As a result, Katheryn defending her body and head quite decently, but unable to stop all of the brunette’s punches from landing. Once or twice, she gets tagged on the nose when Candice manages to close distance too quickly, but other than that, Winnick doesn’t appear too hurt by the time the bell rings. Arguably, Candice the one with more to lose this round, getting shocked by well timed counter-hooks to the body in between her attacks on Winnick’s guard. From a pure calculative perspective, she’s lost this round by a small margin, with Katheryn racking up the actual points necessary from landing shots on skin, whereas all Candice managed to do was tire herself out with the constant chasing.

ROUND 2:
Let’s see whether things change in the second! Katheryn going with the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach, again sending her legs sideways to counter the fast advance of Candice aiming to be right on top of her. Can’t blame Patton for trying, really - she knows she has size and strength on her side, and it would be a shame if she didn’t put that to good use. Katheryn trying to play defensive here, but it’s not working as well as it did in the previous round, because it’s getting harder and harder for the blonde to dodge the pace of punching from her opponent. Candice’s solution is to swing even harder and faster, trying to overwhelm Kath and negate her advantage. And it seems to work in the second half, when Kath has no choice but to slow down to catch her breath, and as a result taking a lot more hard shots straight to the middle of her guard, with a few hooks catching her on the side of her body, making her grunt and grimace. Candice somehow still not tiring herself out just yet, with Winnick banking on her stamina to run out quickly in order for her to launch her own counterattacks, but so far, it ain’t happening folks! The result: Patton taking the second round by a big margin, showing everyone that perhaps this fight really might go in her favour.

ROUND 3:
Bless the Doll though - Winnick sticking to her guns and refusing to advance on Patton despite the evidence that proved contrary. Not sure whether this is a good strategy to deal with someone as strong and aggressive, and at first glance, Kath seems to have gotten some breathing space when Candice advances on her position more slowly and deliberately this time. Katheryn interprets this as her opponent’s starting to tire, and thus she begins jabbing in earnest at Patton’s head, both testing the waters but honestly eager for some payback of her own. Candice, however, not deterred so easily, absorbs the shots on her forearms, before shocking Winnick with a step-in power cross that was designed to be knockout and goodnight-sorta material, if it hadn’t been for Kath’s quick-thinking when she shielded her face in the nick of time! Crowds though loving the exchange in the middle, a position that Winnick hoped never to find herself in but now having little and late choice when Candice sprung her trap. The brunette’s keeping herself close and banging away at the body from all sides, then rattling the blonde’s cages up high as Winnick hides her face between two gloves and wants to weather the storm. Some light jabbing back at Candice’s face once more when distance is established between them, but hell if we’re lying to ourselves if we didn’t see Katheryn taking the bait and then swallowing it whole. Can she turn the tide on this one?

ROUND 4:
OK - Candice also not in the best of shape, chest heaving as she makes out of her own corner whilst trying to steal every breath she can. So she ain’t the superwoman we assumed her to be - like any other woman, with a relentless pursuit of someone with their hands flying in all directions - Candice lacking that same spunk or energy she shared with everyone at the beginning of this fight, jabbing one-two on Winnick’s guard, when the Doll finally decides to get into the game and LAUNCH a straight hand that crashes hard into the middle, thereby grazing Patton’s chin as she goes reeling backwards. ROAR of approval from the audience and it’s Kath’s turn to take one step forward at a time, hoping to capitalise. But Candice already motoring sideways and resetting in at her old position - that punch would have cleaned her clock if she hadn’t been paying attention. Rest of the round and Katheryn with some newfound confidence, going about the ring and snapping jabs into Candice’s guard, even snagging the chest and tummy a couple of times. It’s her round, that’s for sure, with Candice wilting with every passing second.

ROUND 5:
Ah - so it really *was* Winnick’s game plan all along. Candice looking like her head’s somewhere else as she starts taking a barrage to it. Katheryn sensing that this really must be the end - no more feints or traps to spring from a heaving and wheezing girl, furthermore with tears and sweat in her eyes as Patton struggles to keep up with her initial pace. No such qualms from Winnick, however, advancing on Candice like a well oiled machine with more punches to keep her busy, whilst sending shots into the exposed tummy on the way up and over, further driving Patton back into the ropes, right where she wants her. Stunning counter-parry of Candice’s last punch, a desperate attempt at a right hand aimed at Kath’s head. But Kath deflecting the arm to one side, having the sense to see the hand coming a mile away. Kath quickly following through with a hook of her own sent sailing into Candice’s face, blowing her body along the ropes for the ride. ANOTHER hook sends her upper torso reeling the other way, spit and spittle spraying into the audience AND THAT SEEMS TO DO IT - CANDICE losing her balance and collapsing onto her side after that last hook from Winnick spins her off her feet! KNOCKDOWN for Katheryn Winnick in the early fifth round!

Katheryn jumping up and down in place as if the 40 year old blonde is just getting started while Candice - wanting to get up with every fibre of her being, of course, but her entire body rattled by the abuse, notably her head, which she’s shaking from side to side after taking one too many powerful hooks from the blonde. I don’t think Candice even registers the referee counting her out right beside her, until it’s damn too late - he hits the ten count and she’s still barely back onto her knees, holding the ropes for support! This fight is OVER!

Official Decision: Katheryn Winnick defeats Candice Patton via KO5!

AFTER:
Modest celebration as usual from Winnick’s corner, who had complete faith in their girl all this while. Winnick humble as well, and just grateful that the fight didn’t last several more rounds. There’s a smile on her face after the referee officially raises her hand in victory, but other than that, she distinguishes herself against plenty of her other teammates from the locker room, who would be posing, teasing their former foes by this point, along with subject them to unspeakable acts.

Winnick instead venturing over to check on Candice, helping her back up onto her feet afterwards, before the two women share a brief hug and compliment each other on a good fight they’ve both put on tonight.

Later, Winnick talks to reporters as she leaves the ring: “I’m glad I was able to get through this one in one piece. Candice is a strong and dangerous opponent and I came here ready for that tonight. I had a plan and stuck to it….I’m relieved I was able to execute it well. What do you guys say? I think I’m ready for Olivia Munn next week! I hope she is ready too - I can’t wait, see you guys there!”
