Shelley Hennig versus Dakota Johnson(Words: Medallion/Archer / Results: Lookout!)
Prefight: Shelley is in a black and white patterned side tie bikini. Dakota in a yellow side tie bikini. Both with white gloves. White boots with black laces for Shelley. Yellow boots with white laces for Dakota. Shelley’s brunette hair is in a tight battle braid. Dakotas blonde hair is in battle braid as well.
Skip Tracey for Archer News manages to get a few words in from both fighters. He speaks first with Shelley Hennig who stands with trainer Jessica Biel.
“You’ll be starting with Medallion management for the first time, Shelley. How does that feel to have an organization behind you?” The reporter asks.
“It feels great,” Shelley says. “I have a lot to learn but with Jessica and the others at Medallion I intend to prove they did the right thing in signing me.”
“How do you feel about fighting Dakota Johnson?” Skip then asked.
“I think she’s someone I should now be able to beat. I’m 3-6 and she’s 3-9, but now I have Medallion behind me. I feel l’ve learned so much in just the short time I’ve been with them. I can feel how much better I am and I want to show that by winning this fight and looking good as I do it.”
Skip then went over for a chat with Dakota Johnson. He was somewhat surprised to see her with blonde hair.
“It’s my natural color. I thought it couldn’t hurt to try something different to change my fighting luck,” Dakota said with a smile.
“It’s been a struggle for you. Are still enjoying the sport?” Skip asked.
“I love boxing.I would just love it a lot more if I had more than 3 wins. I would love it more if certain managers didn’t think I was a handy jobber they can use to fatten up their fighter’s record. I am not complaining—much. It’s getting me fights and it beats being ignored. Of course, some people have all the luck when it comes to getting management,” Dakota said with a resentful look at Shelley.
“I hope you’ll get management one of these days,” Skip said tactfully.
“Well, if I can knock off ‘Miss Rookie Medallion of 2018’ it would help,” Dakota said with a smile. “She’s better than me. I intend to make Medallion wish they can come to me instead of her!”
The fighters were then summoned to head for the ring. Skip made his way to his ringside seat. On the way he encounter Medallion’s Kaley Cuoco.
“How does it feel to have a new lightweight at Medallion?” Skip asked,
Kaley gave him an elaborate shrug: “Makes no difference to me. I wasn’t asked about signing her. Her record looks pretty mediocre to me, but what do I know? I’m not the mastermind of this stable. We’ll see how the kid does against ‘Jobber Johnson’.”
Skip was a bit taken aback by the usually affable Kaley’s attitude. He watched her go and made it a note to keep an eye on Medallion’s lightweights for signs of conflict. It could be a very interesting story. By then both Dakota and Shelley were in the ring. They both looked eager to get started. The ring instructions went smoothly and both fighters were back in their corners. The bell rang…
R1: Medallion's newest star Shelley getting prefight instructions from Jessica looking across at Dakota. At the bell they both come out and touch gloves. They are both so similar in size and style Shelley being slightly bigger and stronger. Dakota setting up the jab sending two or three at a time showing her boxing skill early. Shelley responding with jabs of her own but Dakota being more active the whole round actually knocking around Shelley several times in the round. At the bell, Shelley looks frustrated and Dakota focused.
R2: Shelley is getting a pep talk we'll call it in the corner. Kaley is at ring side looking very disinterested. Shelley comes out more focused but Dakota continues her boxing clinic until Shelley on one of her jab exchanges levels Dakota with a hard shot to the liver. The blonde's legs nearly buckle as she winces her hands drop and she eats a three punch combination to the face. The blonde is rocked getting her back thankfully against the ropes. She covers up finally but the damage is done for this round. Dakota slides around on the ropes trying to collect herself and keep the ferocious brunette at bay until the bell. Shelley looks angry as Dakota limps back to her corner.
R3: The Medallion corner is not letting up on Shelley though as Kaley looks on still a bit board. At the bell, Shelley comes out on fire looking to press her advantage. Dakota is moving much better though frustrating Shelley even more as the round continues. The brunette ducks in looking for the body and gets blasted with a right on the jaw. It's hard to see how she stayed on her feet staggering backwards nearly seated. It might have been Dakota's jab that straightened her up. The blonde goes to push the advantage working over Shelley's shoulders and arms working a few shots though the guard. The brunette finally has to tie up to try and regain herself. Shelley looks a mess but keeps moving and responding to the bell. Shelley goes back to her corner head down while Dakota flexing a bit looking for the knockout the next round.
R4: Shelley is really getting an earful now with Eliza jumping in. Kaley still at ringside looking even more disinterested or perhaps discussed with her new stablemate. Shelley still looks dazed at the bell. She comes out slowly and Dakota lets her before jumping into the fray. Shelley looks hurt but still dodging and firing back some keeping Dakota just off of her. As we enter minute two of the fight. DAKOTA GOES DOWN! No one in the crowd or more importantly Dakota sees it coming. Shelley seen the opening another hard liver shot this time in the center of the ring then a four punch ultra violent combination all to the head sends the blonde onto her back looking up at the lights. Shelley goes to a neutral corner. The brunette battler looks out at Kaley and winks also says something the blonde reacts to as the enviable ten count passes. The winner by fourth round KO Shelley Hennig.
Post Fight: Shelley goes over and checks on the shell shocked Dakota before going back to her corner and celebrating with her new team. Eliza hugging her but telling her something during the hug then a hug from Jessie. "This was a lot harder fight than I thought it would be." Shelley explains. "I was out of it and in bad shape but some advice and work from my partners got me though it in devastating fashion." Kaley does not seem as supportive. "Shell is very green. Great body and good basic skills but she got lucky. She's nowhere an elite like the rest of our fighters."
Skip Tracey managed to get a word with Dakota Johnson as she leaves the arena following medical tests.
“Tough night,” Skip says. “You okay?”
Dakota Johnson sighs: “She caught me off guard with that liver shot and the next thing I knew I was looking up at the lights and they were round and round. I’ll OK really. I got some aches and pains, but nothing I won’t get over in a few days. I busted Hennig up pretty good in the 3rd, but she came back and flattened me in the 4th. I can take consolation in that. I just want to say that I hate losing, but I will be back. I actually love being out there exchanging punches. I lost—again-- maybe next time…”
Dakota’s voice trails off and she walks away quietly. Skip Tracey thought again about how hard the road was for an unmanaged fighter in the FCBA. |
