4. Nina Agdal vs Clara Alonso (Lightweight)
Nina: (25, 5’9, 121, 15:7 FCBA, VIXENs) Clara: (31, 5’9, 0:2 FCBA, SIRENs)
BEFORE: “It must be a terrible feeling, to have lost to Lily Aldridge twice in a row…” Clara Alonso starting the fireworks rolling with her opening remarks. “And I’m not saying my record’s any much better. I’m just commenting on Nina’s state of mind coming into this fight with me. I actually feel that I have the advantage at winning here.”
Clara grinning throughout her opening words, glancing occasionally over at Nina’s corner across the table for any sign of reaction, to which she’s not disappointed - plenty of eye-rolling and scoffing from the Danish model, who immediately cuts in and back:
“For the record…” Nina picks up the opportunity at a dig. “Your record ISN’T any better. And if Alonso here thinks she’s my equal, I’m going to prove her completely wrong. I mean, who IS she? The only reason she’s in the spotlight is because she’s been paired with someone like me, of Sports Illustrated fame. She’s got nothing to her own name. Absolutely nothing…”
Whether her words are convincing enough, well that’s up to the audience to decide. What we can say however is that Nina’s resolve certainly must be shaky after her repeat losses of late, in what were failed opportunities of reaching the top of the division now ending up in tatters.
Later, Agdal decked in a colourful, printed white and blue crop top, paired with a hot pink bikini brief and black gloves, showing off that toned tummy. Clara more modest in a solid red bra and panties set, with black gloves as well. The fitness of these girls has never been in doubt, only their fighting prowess. Well, HERE we go with ten rounds of Lightweight action to find out who’s better!
ROUND 1:
Clara showing plenty of promise in the first round, taking advantage of the dip in Danish girl’s confidence by scoring punches all over her guard in an never-ending pursuit of face with her hands. Nina not helping things either by taking the punches with barely any response besides her defensive stance. At least this opening round isn’t a total rout for the Vixen, as she still has both arms firmly over her face, but if you were expecting more from the blonde, you’re about to be disappointed. Nina grunting towards the end when Clara smartly targets her open midsection with more often and complex jab/hook combos, further complicating Agdal’s chances and her fans hope of a glorious redemption. Agdal here with a textbook horrible example of how NOT to fight a round, especially if you were planning on losing the game i the long-term. Corey Saucier clearly taking his girl aside once the buzzer sounds, trying to talk some sense into her, whereas Alonso receiving a pat on the back from Carvill as she heads back to her own corner. Let’s hope Nina can find her groove in there, and quickly.
ROUND 2: Well, we spoke too soon. Nina getting hammered by that same enthusiasm from Clara Alonso early on when the Spaniard rushes in to try and finish off her opponent, possibly at the advice of a beaming Henry Carvill still in her corner. It has the desired effect of surprising Nina further and throwing her off her game. Nina back to defending with her arms and trying to get away with her long legs, but Alonso seems hellbent to follow after each step of the way, with more shots buried into the belly drawing sharp gasps as the wind beat out of her, quite literally.. Meanwhile, Nina tries her hand at some half-hearted jabbing back at Alonso’s head, but even the mutual shots landing on the chin fail to secure the advantage for her. Instead, Nina’s head is thrown backwards, with her body following, after Alonso, perhaps emboldened by her own power, comes stamping in and delivers a brutal uppercut into the chin! Nina goes flying backwards into the ropes BEFORE FALLING FORWARD ONTO HER KNEES! What the hell?? It’s one hell of an early KNOCKDOWN for Clara Alonso!!
And the surly Siren looks like she’s barely broken a sweat in there! Unprecedented achievement for Alonso, but we’re having trouble giving her as much credit as she deserves when Nina’s head is the one so far out of the game. But the results are undeniable: Agdal sputtering and spitting on all fours as the referee slowly begins to count her out. She senses the disappointment of her fans’ groaning in the rafters, however, and it suddenly dawns on her how far she’s fallen in the ring, quite literally and metaphorically. Agdal pushes herself back up by the count of 7, and this fight is continuing, for better or for worse!
Clara pacing about in her own corner all this while, one hand on her hip and looking eager to get back into the action. She correctly predicted that Agdal wouldn’t have gone down so easily or quickly, but even she has to give herself some credit for putting someone like Nina down at this point. Referee waves for the last minute to continue, and HERE CLARA COMES, looking confident to finish! But Nina suddenly with grim determination on her face as she evades the brunette flying punch aimed towards her. Rather than stand and bang toe-to-toe, Nina opting to evade for the rest of the round, and quite successfully so. Perhaps she knows herself that she can’t possibly salvage things at this point in terms of points. Round ends and again, here’s to hoping the Vixen will manage to turn things around subsequently.
ROUND 3: Clara still looking semi-confident as she strides forward, thinking that Nina’s as good as done by this point in time. Boy is she as wrong as we were last time. Both hands barely covering her face allows Nina to slam in a quick one-two into the nostrils, stunning the Spaniard in her tracks. Crowd roars at the sign of Nina’s awakening, and true to form, both lanky models go at it in the middle of the ring with mutual shots into the face and then slammed hooks landing in the middle of bodies. But keen observers notice it’s Clara who initiates the clinch, one particular swing that crashes into her midsection doubles her over and forces her arms around Nina’s waistline. Girls grunting into shoulders as they push back and forth, but when the referee finally forces them apart at the end of three minutes, we’re scoring it in Nina’s corner by a slight margin. Could this be the vixen’s turning point? Corey certainly believes so, giving his girl a pat on the shoulder as she returns to corner breathing hard, but still breathing.
ROUND 4: More and more frustrated with herself, that grin is long gone from Alonso’s lips as she wades in after the bell, her victory not at all secured compared to the first two rounds of this fight. She’s definitely acting more cautious this time as Nina meets her head-on with plenty of jabs flicked in her direction. Clara forced to cover up, attempting to swing a hook back to dissuade her opponent’s aggression. But Agdal weaving her head to avoid, before sending a hook of her own clean into the side of Alonso’s face! OUCH! Clara is ROCKED by that one as her head’s swiveled to the side! BUT STILL she’s standing firm and taking another swing at Nina’s body. Danish girl absorbing the shot with a grimace, aiming another one right down the middle: right hand PACKS in under the jawline and SNAPS brunette head all the way back! And Alonso’s the one now FLOORED onto her back! It’s only Round 4 and already we have two knockdowns in this fight!
Clara clearly hurt as she shakes that head from side-to-side, trying to roll herself onto her side and then hopefully, back onto her feet. But she’s nowhere near the ropes here, having to recover using nothing but her own strength and resolve. Nina catching her breath in her own corner, watching as her foe manages to make it back up on shaky feet by the count of 9! We’re continuing with the mutual beatdown, apparently!
But Alonso has to survive another two minutes in here, and Nina’s eye lighting up as though she’s fully back in the game and hungry to make a statement now. IN SHE COMES, shoving Clara backwards with a straight hand to her exposed gut. With a OUMMPH, Clara backed into the ropes and clings on for dear life, with Nina now smashing big lefts and rights into her withering arms, occasionally jacking a fist up into the tummy to disrupt the flow just for fun. After a minute of this, with Alonso’s attempt at a clinch repeatedly denied and shoved off her, Nina delivers another one, two, THREE brutalising hooks into her increasingly battered face, and the referee has seen enough - HE JUMPS IN TO SAVE HER!! It’s over via TKO!!
Official Decision: Nina Agdal defeats Clara Alonso via TKO4!
AFTER: Bittersweet moment for Nina as she walks away finally with a victory tonight, but that early knockdown is sure gonna be ingrained into her memory as well, at having faltered so easily and quickly. It seems like the blonde can’t seem to catch a break for herself, each time at the cusp of making it to the top of the division only to get knocked down a peg or two and having to restart from scratch.
Clara Alonso however a different story - she was supposed to have demonstrated her ability to beat a beaten woman here tonight. Her failure only leaves further doubt in her mind at her long-term suitability in the ring. Even Henry Carvill looking perplexed as he enters the ring to check on his girl, who had promptly slumped to the ground after that nasty beating on the ropes and now getting looked over by medical staff.
To us though, the more girls that enter the squared circle, the merrier, so let’s hope we see both these girls continue to compete sometime again in the ring! |
