Emily Ratajkowski versus Summer Glau
Emily: (27, 5’7, 15:10 FCBA, VIXENs)
Summer: (37, 5’6, 24:32 FCBA, Free Agent)
BEFORE: “This HAS to stop. I want to get back to winning. Despite what some people might say, I believe I’m fully deserving of being in the top ten,” Emily telling reporters in solemn tones early on, reflecting on her past year of losses that have plagued her psyche and worst, given her detractors plenty of ammunition to shoot her down. “Now, Summer’s in a class of her own, so make no mistake here - I wanted my next opponent to be a good fit for me. I believe the odds tonight are 50-50, if I were being modest.”
Summer Glau of course, like she said, is a legend in her own right. A former Bantamweight champion with over 50 fights under her belt, if anyone’s gatekeeper material, it’ll be her.
“I sorta empathise with Emily’s position. Trust me, girl, I’ve been in plenty of similar situations before. The trick is to just keep swinging and ignore the naysayers. That being said, that’s the reason we’re both in the ring tonight, eh?” Glau draws chuckles from the room.
Cordial face-off at the podium as these girls continue to stamp their name on the history books tonight. For all of Emily’s wholesome talk, she’s not doing herself any favours by peeling off those copious layers of clothes and ascending those steel steps with nothing but a pair of black undies and red gloves on her skin. Summer more modest by comparison, dressed in a charcoal-coloured two-piece swimsuit and white gloves, cutting an equally striking pose in the ring with her toned figure for someone her age. Girls look ready to go here, so we’re OFF to ten rounds of Bantamweight action!
ROUND 1: The younger woman naturally more energetic as this fight begins, with Emily showing off her moves by weaving left and right constantly. We’d say it’s overkill, however, with Summer Glau barely flicking any punches her way in the first minute anyways. Emily not taking any chances though, keeping her distance at the slightest indication of a punch headed at her head, whilst firing a barrage of jabs at Glau, though not finding much success either against her defences. The round ends with both women looking as equal as ever in there, but if we’re gonna give it to one of them, it would be Ratajkowski by the tiniest margin, just doing enough to edge out the former champion.
ROUND 2: Some would say this ring belongs to the young. Well, they’d be wrong here in this round. Glau timing her shots much more accurately, finally getting used to her younger counterpart’s rhythm and movement. Emily more than a little shocked when a right hook is parried off harmlessly in the middle minute, leaving her wide open for a return SWOOSH that snags her in the chin and rattles the head, sending her grunting backwards. Glau confidently pushing forward, shooting more leather into the brunette’s toned tummy before more punches hammer the Vixen’s forearms, until Emily manages to establish some distance. Final minute and we’re back to stalemate dance, with the Vixen scarred and scared of jumping in any further, and Glau also displaying a calm measure worthy of her stature, refusing to charge in recklessly and screw her own advantage.
ROUND 3: Technical round as both girls appear hesitant at the beginning, flicking punches at the head before more powerful hooks start swishing into the air. Not much of an effect if either woman is overly-cautious, however. Not until both corners begin urging their girls forward do they unwillingly budge their butts and take tentative steps towards one another. Glau with a hard swing at Emily’s head as she comes barreling in first, but MISSES when Emily ducks under at the last moment. Glau grunting as her tummy’s pounded on with a left-right before head SNAPS back from a short uppercut to the chin! Rather than retreat, however, Glau wrapping arms around her opponent’s chest, looking for the clinch. Emily not anticipating this move, struggling to keep her off. Girls end up grunting in each other’s arms as they take turns banging punches off the ribs and kidneys. Referee separates them at last when the three minutes are up, but I think it’s safe to say that Ratajkowski certainly excelled in there, especially when she gets in close and proper.
ROUND 4: Summer huffing hard from the body abuse in the previous, now determined to keep her distance and play to her own strengths. Emily determined to rush in regardless, and again we see the contrast in style as both women attempt a knockdown. Summer with her hands high and in front of her face, shoving them in quick ins and outs as Ratajkowski comes barreling towards her. The Vixen grunting as her mouth and nostrils keep on getting hit, but STILL she doesn’t seem to be dissuaded from her attack. Glau letting out a groan of her own when her side smacked in by a side-hook, before Emily steps in and BURIES a right into her body. Summer attempts to clinch up again, but this time, Emily’s ready, pulling her shoulders backwards to strike, but doesn’t anticipate the right hand coming up and inwards either... Emily’s head shocked upwards as Glau’s uppercut lands HARD on her jawline! Summer letting her loose at her own mercy - Vixen barrels back into the ropes looking dazed and ready to go down! AND HERE COMES GLA-- Oops! There goes the bell! Glau has to stop herself mid-charge, and what a shame it is too! Emily left stupefied and laid out on the ropes, her hands barely up and head lolling from side to side. Another twenty seconds and it might have just been over for her!
ROUND 5: Well, she ain’t the former Bantamweight champion for no good reason, and Summer still packing one hell of a punch even if she hasn’t been a regular in the ring. Emily regaining her senses here after getting washed down and shaken by Head Trainer Corey Saucier. HERE we go with the start of the fifth! Glau surging forward, focused as ever, begins hounding Emily to the head with test punches that rattle the brunette further. Emily absorbing the blows well, with more swipes at her belly drawing a grunt or two, but this time, she manages to clinch up and deny Glau more targets. Summer the one growling with frustration this time in the shoulder, with victory so close to her grasp. But Emily hanging on stubbornly, managing to position the struggling pair back in the middle of the ring, before bringing her right hand upwards and sideways, CLAPPING the older woman on the eardrums once, twice, THRICE! Glau seeing stars as the hooks knock her senseless, and suddenly, Emily finds herself in full control, easily shoving her opponent’s arms out of her way before BANGING another quick combination off her chin! GLAU WOBBLED, then FLOORED backwards from that rocker!
The first KNOCKDOWN of the evening goes to Emily Ratajkowski! Glau not out cold just yet, but that last sequence not doing her any favours as she struggles to even sit up after getting floored onto her back! Referee performing the count as the former champion wheezes and her body strains, but she doesn’t make it back up in time for it to count! He calls for the bell and for the fight to be OVER!!
Official Decision: Emily Ratajkowski defeats Summer Glau via KO5!
AFTER: No matter how you cut it, it’s a bittersweet moment for both competitors tonight: Emily Ratajkowski will call this a victory, but it was a make-or-break moment after falling in straight losses to a bevy of top girls. For Summer Glau, she hanged on for the first few rounds in valiant fashion, but ultimately didn’t go home with the prize of being a younger woman and signaling she’s still in the game.
Hopefully, this loss doesn’t spell the complete end of her long tenure in the ring either. Emily going over after the ref raises her hand, helping her up to her feet and then sharing a momentary hug and warm words. Here’s to both girls finding their footing in this overcrowded division in the future! |
