Odette Yustman vs Rosario Dawson (Lioness Club of America vs FCBA Independent) (38-20-1, 31 KO vs 8-8, 7 KO) Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: Odette Yustman was knocked out of the Lightweight Contenders tournament at the very first hurdle by Taylor Swift so tonight's contest might fall into the "stay busy" category but the Lioness brunette vows to remain focused and don't take anything for granted. Meanwhile Rosario Dawson struggles to find regular work ever since the IFFI stable ceased operations and seems genuinely satisfied she's in demand for PPV action again. She's been accused of lacking pure aggression to strike it really big in this league however ESPN's Erin Andrews believes she can really upset Yustman who's stuck at career cross-roads with the divisional elite slightly out of reach at this moment. Moreover all the media buzz around Jessica Lowndes and newly crowned bantamweight champion Nina Dobrev has relegated Odette into sidekick role which simply doesn't suit her potential.
Odette Yustman wears a black bikini set with white trim and red gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Rosario Dawson wears a red bikini set and black gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a curled ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Round 1: Dawson seeks physical action early on and enforces a close range dispute where she picks Yustman off through the middle to expose a leaky guard. Perhaps Odette still lingers over that Taylor Swift defeat as she struggles to match the older woman's intensity which allows Rosario to cash in with quick hooks and half-uppercuts in the process. Yustman gets bullied to her heels and soaks up more pressure to the body while Dawson becomes even more aggressive down the stretch which seemingly catches the Lioness fighter by surprise. Odette's unable to shake off the heat and reels onto the ropes where Rosario leans on her with more juice to deliver piercing harpoons to the body. She gets clinched into a stalemate late but that was a sign of desperation from the former champion more than anything else.
Round 2: Rosario wants to build on her momentum here in the second but Odette quickly gathers her thoughts and regains that lithe mobility which made so many opponents look sluggish before. The initial attack from the free agent barely grazes Odette's flesh but Rosario really tries to jump into the close range again before Yustman stacks her up with a hooking drive over the top. Ugh! Dawson gets nailed on the jaw and wobbles to her heels but then the younger brunette tears a small cut across her nose with a vicious follow up that dents Rosario's confidence wholesale. She drops back to the ropes with a whimper and doesn't have the footwork to escape a quick rush up the middle as Yustman moves onto the front (left) leg to power ahead with more body shots. She traps Dawson on the ropes and keeps raining punches until the bell halts her progress while Rosario seems more concerned over that nasal cut than letting the former champion back into this bout.
Round 3: It's not that often you see Odette steaming down on her opponent so early in the fight but she catches a break when she slams a hooking combo on the nose during the initial tangle and Rosario's loud yelps simply fuel the punishment that comes in tandem. Yustman rattles quick punches through the leaky guard and leaves the free agent stranded in the center of the ring before a big hook on the boobs sucks the air out of Dawson's lungs on the spot. She bends forward with yet another whimper but instead of clinching the L.A. brunette into safety, she gets SMOKED by a brutal uppercut on the jaw that SENDS HER CRASHING DOWN ON THE CANVAS!! The count reaches five before a quick shake of the head indicates Dawson has given up on the recovery. KO3 Odette Yustman!!!
AFTER: Odette keeps it strictly business post-fight but tells coach Claudia Schiffer she expected more resistance from the former IFFI member. This success came a little too easily to brag about it on social media indeed even though Yustman is never the "in your face" character like some of her LCA stablemates. A win is always a win and shouldn't hurt Odette's Top 10 ranking much.
On the other hand Dawson just doesn't display much confidence at all, she got floored by a customary uppercut that Zoe "Glass Jaw" Saldana would be ashamed of and there's just nothing out there to suggest Rosario escapes the journeywoman-turned-punchbag status going forward unless she gives it a try versus fellow free agents within her age group.
Official result: Odette Yustman def. Rosario Dawson KO3. |
