MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD VS ALEXIS REN UNIFIED FCBA LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE Results: Lookout Writing: Archer Mary: 34 YO, 5’8 (1.73 m), 48-41-0, 42 KO since 2007, Foxfire Boxing Alexis Ren: 22 YO, 5’8 ½ (1.74 m), 18-3-0, 18 KO since 2016, VIXENS
Before: “Why did I pick Alexis to be my first title defense?” Mary Elisabeth asks rhetorically in the pre-fight press meeting. “I wanted someone with a good record at lightweight, but hadn’t been in the Lightweight Tournament and, preferably someone I hadn't fought before. Alexis here filled all three. Plus she’s one of those supermodels and I just LOVE to beat those girls.”
Alexis smiles (perhaps a little too sweetly): “Mary, you are talked about in model dressing rooms around the world. We know how you feel about us and, believe me, it is quite mutual. Whenever one of us beats you, it is a cause for celebration among models around the world. I am pleased you recognize my success.”
“Yes, but you mostly fight models, don’t you?” Mary replies.
Alexis scowled: “So what? I also beat your stablemate Laura Vandervoort and just this year I put down Taylor Swift—who seem to remember knocked you out back in May. Plus I am undefeated going into this fight. I think my chances are very good at making this my next win.”
“Don’t bet your last bikini on that,” Mary sniped. “I just got the title belt. I am not giving it up in my first defense.”
“Oh wouldn’t that be embarrassing?” sneered Alexis. “Supermodel World will have extra reason to celebrate because I’ll have made you an ‘also ranked’ yet again.”
Mary started to glower: “You got a big mouth Ren. Expect me to close it.”
Alexis smirks: “Not scared of you Winstead. I’m the model who will strutting down the runaway in what WAS your title belt.”
Mary looks ready to go over and start the fight right then and there. However the ever-present Foxfire communications director Beth Harnois appears to soothe her seething champion.
“Oh, you must be Beth Harnois,” Alexis calls out, “you’re pretty short to be acting as Winstead’s bodyguard.”
“If I am protecting anyone—it’s you!” Beth snaps. “Come on Mary, she’s just trying to pull you into a catfight.”
“That would be fine with me!” Mary snaps, but lets Beth guide her off the stage.
Alexis seems to find this all quite amusing. She is joined by sister VIXEN lightweight Luisana Lopilato and Nina Agdal.
“I got her rattled, That title belt is coming to our locker room!” Alexis says confidently.
“And if you don’t, the VIXENS have plenty more lightweights to fight Winstead. We’ll just keep knocking until one of us wins it,” Nina Agdal remarks.
“Maybe if Alexis wins it we can take turns succeeding her. Think how dominating that would be for the VIXENS,” Luisana said.
“That’s a nice thought, but first I take the belts and we’ll see what happens then,” Alexis says,
Night of the fight finds Alexis escorted to the ring by Nina, Luisana and two more VOIXENS Lightweights Georgia Mae Gibbs and Kelly Rohrbach. That’s quite a gathering of promising lightweights and there is a big buzz in the crowd. Alexis removes her robe as she climbs into the ring and reveals a pale green bikini with dark green gloves and boots. Alexis’s blonde hair is in a ponytail with a pale green ribbon.
Then comes Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Some disappointment from those who hoped Yvonne Strahovski would be back in her French Maid costume, but Yvonne is watching the proceedings from the Lookout seats. Instead, the champion is accompanied by FCBA lightweight trainer, Rachel Nichols , Foxfire lightweights Sophia Turner and Alexandra Daddario. Redoubtable Foxfire Communications Director Elisabeth Harnois leads the procession holding up the FCBA Lightweight Title Belt for all to see. Mary is smiling and waving in a confident fashion which heartens Foxfire fans in the crowd who cheer loudly. AS she enters the ring, Mary removes her robe to reveal a blazing red bikini with white boots and gloves (red laces). Mary’s bobbed hair is loose, but wetted down.
Two fighters approach each other with obvious swagger. Proud fighters, each confident of victory and they jostle up against each other. Referee has to speak sternly to keep the fighters in line, but he manages the ring instruction and glove swipe with authority, Then Alexis and Mary as dispatched to their corners to await the bell. After what seems like an eternity it rings. The fight is on!
R1: Alexis Ren moving rapidly towards Mary Winstead and peppering the champion’s face with quick rights and lefts. Mary has to duck down and try to counter with the jab, but Alexis is circling with mobility and is not easy to target. Alexis now working MEW to the chest with stinging straight rights and lefts. Mary looking flustered at the VIXEN’s aggressiveness and is struggling to get her jab deployed. Alexis boring in late and getting uppercuts into Mary’s chin to knock her head back. Mary finally using jab to create some distance at the bell, but it’s not enough to keep the challenger from winning the round wide. Mary not looking very happy as she returns to her corner. Alexis smiling as she gets this started the way she wanted.
R2: Foxfire trainer Rachel Nichols speaking to Mary during the break, calming her agitated fighter and getting her ready for the next round. Mary comes out looking cool and when Alexis comes rushing at her again, she promptly drives a right that catches Alexis between the eyes and then brings a left to crack the blonde on the jaw. Alexis recoiling in confusion, her long legs trembling and trying to keep her gloves up to protect her face, Mary pounding Alexis stomach just above the waistband of her bikini bottoms. Alexis doubled up from the belly banging and shuffling back, Mary swatting Alexis to the sides of the head. Alexis bobbing and weaving in retreat trying to escape MEW’s punching. Mary seems to be trying to work Alexis into the ropes, but the blonde rallies at last, fighting back with the jab to hold Mary off. Mary back to the body and adding Alexis’ breasts to her target list. Bell rings to end the round. MEW comes back with a wide win of her own this chapter.
R3: Alexis responds to Mary’s win the second round with a charge that draws a hard swinging right aimed at parting Alexi’s head from her body! Alexis neatly ducks under the blockbuster and comes roaring up with a right uppercut that smashes home under Mary’s chin. Mary knocked off her feet, but somehow stays up before she crashes into the ropes behind her. Alexis leaps on her dazed rival and pounds away at Mary with rights and lefts to the head. Mary now driven into the strands, gets her gloves up to defend her head and tries to survive. Alexis going at Winnie’s undefended torso with her arms moving like piston rods as they scrub Mary from breast to ribcage down to the stomach. Mary writhing under this shelling, tries to turn her body to cover her ravaged torso, but Alexis not letting her do it. Alexis pounding and pounding as Mary tries to slide along the ropes, but Alexis stays on her and never lets up. Bell sounds and Alexis steps back, She is breathing hard and sweat is dripping off her body. She watches as Mary slowly extracts herself from the ropes and trudges pass Alexis as she heads for her corner. Alexis looks dumbfounded that Mary is still able to move after all she gave her. Mary Winstead has a reputation for being able to take punishment, Looks like Alexis Ren has learned it’s no mere ring legend. Meanwhile judges give round to Alexis Ren in a shutout.
R4: No surprise that the Foxfire corner is very busy working on MEW during the break. Mary sits slumped on her stool as she lets the corner crew do their jobs and listens to the quiet voice of Rachel Nichols. Alexis Ren is talking with her trainers as well. Bell rings and both fighters off their stools promptly. Alexis moving with fresh aggression, but Mary moves forward and engages. Alexis and Mary going at it toe to toe. Alexis seeing the chance to further weaken Mary to the body is driving her rights and lefts into Winnie’s already bruised torso. Mary gritting her teeth and giving it right back to Alexis’s body. Two up the intensity as the round progresses. Steady SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! Of leather on wet flesh. Mary slowly, slowly pushing Alexis back as she begins to wilt under Mary’s relentless counter punching. Alexis jabbing back hard to keep her defenses together to the bell. Judges count up the points and the hard-fought round is ruled to go to Mary.
R5: Alexis seems more cautious as the new round gets going. She is circling, using her punches to keep Mary back and not giving the champ clear shots. Mary trying to corner the slippery Alexis, but the VIXEN keeps sliding away when she tries to get close. Mary stubbornly keeps trying. Then Alexis suddenly reverses gears and leaps forward with descending right hook to Winnie’s jaw. Mary caught by surprise, spins around, her legs seem to lock and DOWN GOES MARY! Champ is on her face, pawing at the canvas she blearily looks around in dazed confusion. Alexis happily trotting off to the neutral corner. Mary struggles to all fours and pauses, shaking her head to clear it, The referee is on the scene and counting. She hears him and makes a great effort to rise just as the official has said “NINE!” Mary stands there swaying, but then steadies herself and assures the referee she can continue. Official waves Alexis back in. Mary now in a strict defensive mode, gloves up around her head and body hunched up to be less of a target. Alexis working the side ribs now, pounding away at them, but Mary showing some fight with the jab to put some lumps on Alexis’ face. Alexis growing more cautious herself as time runs out on the round. Knockdown assures Alexis Ren has won this one wide.
R6: Alexis now back with her customary aggression this round and she is working more combative Mary hard to the body. Mary trying to get her counters on Alexis, but once Alexis shifts to her mobility mode, she is again frustratingly elusive for the champion. Mary not giving up, but her efforts to cut off the ring on Alexis are getting her banged up to the body. Alexis takes note that Mary’s high guard dropping down and she tries to swoop in for another opportunistic shot at the Winstead chin. BAM! Crowd blinks in surprise as the incoming Alexis Ren walks into a right uppercut from Mary Winstead. It is a beaut of a punch! Alexis lifted off her feet and sent crashing onto the canvas! Crowd can’t believe the round turned around so quickly, but there is Alexis on her side shuddering and moaning as MEW skips merrily to the neutral corner. Referee moves in and starts counting. Alexis now in a sitting position, holding her head with both hands and looking shocked. She then pulls herself together and rises to her feet. Referee checks out and signals Mary back in. Mary comes in. Alexis shows some decent jabbing, but she’s clearly trying to defend her head. Mary seems content to just keep up the pressure to the bell, Mary steals a round with that late knockdown and wins the round wide.
R7: Alexis showing some toughness herself as she seems able to shake off the effects of that knockdown and come strongly at Mary as the new round commences. Mary accepting battle again at close range, Down are back at the body hammering hooks as they look each other in the eyes with fierce glares. Both seem determined to get control of this round and again the longer it goes on the more intense the punching. This time, however, it is Alexis Ren who is slowly pushing her opponent back, Alexis really doing a number on Mary’s chest trying to pounding those juggs and knock the air of her lungs. Alexis sneaking a hook deep in the belly to make Mary gasp for air as she is backing up. Mary holding her defenses together as she retreats but Alexis gaining upper hand as the round closes out. Another close one, but the judges give it to Alexis Ren.
R8: Plenty of fight still left in Alexis Ren and Winnie Winstead as the bell sounds for the latest round, They are up off their stools and head right for each other. Mary able to strike first with a head shot right that knocks Alexis sideways. Alexis looks stunned, but when Mary swoops in on her, the VIXEN cracks her a solid right uppie to the chin. Now Mary goes stumbling backwards, arms windmilling as she struggles to keep her balance. Alexis moves sluggishly to take advantage of MEW’s distress. Mary able to pull herself together, but she’s not moving very fast either as Alexis comes in close. Now the two are exchanging head shots. Heads get swiveled, legs get shaky, but they stay up. Then they lurch forward for more body punching. They go at it fairly evenly though not quite with the same intensity. Looks like those head shots have drained their batteries some observers in the crowd mutter. They pound belly and breast, but then Mary rams a right uppercut in behind Alexis’ guard and into her chin. Alexis is hit hard, her head snaps back and she teeters backwards. Mary brings a right to the jaw! A left to the jaw! Another right to the jaw! AND ALEXIS REN CRUMBLES!. Alexis crashes onto her back and lays there, arms outflung and eyes tightly closed. Mary hastens to the neutral corner. Referee moves in. Alexis starts to stir, She pushes herself up on her right arm, but when she tries to go further she cannot. She hangs her head. The ponytail has come apart now there is hair hanging down over her face, She looks sadly through the tendrils of wet hair as the referee finishes her night:
“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!...YOU ARE OUT!”
THE WINNER AND STILL FCBA LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD OVER ALEXIS REN KO8!
After: Mary trots over to the fallen Alexis and helps her to her feet. “For a model you’re a darned good boxer.”
“Thank you,” Alexis says woozily. “I just couldn’t keep you down.”
“Yeah, I beat you, I really had to work for it. I got to say, I don’t mind spoiling the plan for that World Wide Supermodel Victory Party—“
“You heard about that?”
“Hey the entire continent of Australia would probably have joined it. A few more wouldn’t make a difference, but now all you will just have to swallow me winning again. That always feels good,” Mary said.
At that point Nina Agdal, Luisana Lopilato, Georgia Mae Gibbs, and Kelly Rohrback arrives at mid-ring. This brought Beth Harnois, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Daddario and Laura Vandervoort scrambling into the ring to back up Mary. However, Mary remained calm in the face of some many clearly unhappy VIXENS.
“No need for intervention, ladies, I was just having a chat with Alexis here. I do think she could stand for a good shower and a good rest,” Mary said cheerfully.
“That sounds like a good idea,” Alexis said. “Get me out of here. Oh, and thanks Mary, I trust we’ll fight again some day.”
“I’ll try to fit you in, but I can see I have a lot of VIXEN lightweights to beat,” Mary said.
“Ha! Just you go and try it!” Kelly Rohrbach blurted out.
“Oh, I intend to, It may take a while, but I think the Foxfire Lightweights and Vixen Lightweights could have quite a future together,” Mary said.
“Yeah, you won’t be so happy when we beat you girls down!” Georgia Mae Gibbs said.
“Just YOU go and try it!” Sophie Turner added.
At that point Alexis Ren seemed to get a bit unsteady. Nina Agdal and Luisana Lopilato quickly grabbed an arm and escorted her away followed by Georgia Gibbs and Kelly Rohrbach, The Foxfire forces also made their exit and went to begin celebrating MEW;s retention of the Lightweight Title.
Meanwhile lightweight fans get to savor the memories of a solid title fight. The action saw two knockdowns, but it was Mary Winstead who got Alexis down for a second time. Unable to beat the count, Alexis had to settle for having put up a good fight, but was stymied by Mary Winstead’s very real ability to take a beating and come back to win. It doesn’t always work for the Foxfire champion, but she has done it enough make her one dangerous champion. Lightweight fans now wonder who she will fight next (and if it will be one of MEW’s beloved “Santa-kini” bouts?), We will all just have to wait and see, |
