BEFORE: Lily Aldridge's win over Missy Peregrym proves the Sports Illustrated/Victoria's Secret stalwart can mix it against non-models which was the great unknown regarding her career status since day one. Meanwhile Dakota Johnson is yet to fulfill her potential and serves as resident journeywoman target for most of her peers these days. She'd like to score a signature win sooner rather than later and ESPN's Erin Andrews claims she won't get a better opportunity than taking Aldridge down allthough her latest rough outing vs Shelley Hennig indicates it's a mammoth task regardless. Time is perhaps running out for Johnson to make an impact and escape the cannon fodder reality. Can she finally live up to the expectations tonight?
Lily Aldridge wears a light blue bikini set and black gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a curled ponytail. Dakota Johnson wears a red sports bra with grey trim, matching hotpants and red gloves. Long dark brown hair with bangs wrapped in a loose bun at the back of her head. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Round 1:
Boxing World Magazine labels the VS model as "lovely Lily" but there's nothing lovely about the treatment she gives Dakota in the opening round! It's that burst of confidence that tends to put your victim on the back foot early and before Dakota knows it, she's getting hammered to the body with Lily ripping punches like skittles to drive the younger brunette butt-in-ropes. Dakota barely makes her first connection when she's gasping in discomfort already but Lily shows no signs of slowing down like she's been watching too much Jessica Lowndes tape over the last few weeks. She keeps Johnson trapped behind a shoddy guard and once she moves upstairs to secure a quick doube series, she almost laughs over the lack of resistance. Dakota finds no answers to the high-octane drill and drags her rival into a lenghty clinch but that only delays the slaughtery according to Erin Andrews and needs to change ASAP!
Round 2:
Dakota feels like she has to match the slugging approach of her opponent and accepts the punishing dispute which allows her to break the model's stride when she lands a somewhat lucky punch on the liver area that throws Aldridge off her stance. However Lily refuses to back off and throws more aerial response even though she looked more comfortable while softening the fellow brunette up to the body before. Action becomes a little chaotic with single punches during the second minute until Dakota lands another quick harpoon downstairs to force Aldridge into reboot mode. Johnson was supposed to be a more hittable target than Peregrym but one can never underestimate any free agent; Dakota actually forces the VS model back when she clips her jugs and pierces the high guard late - Lily almost slumped onto her heels there before a last-gasp escape allowed her to avoid a nasty hook that Johnson couldn't deliver in the end.
Round 3:
More point-blank range hasslin' in the opening minute as Dakota finds her range and begins to stack up punches to the body. Lily seems a little upset over the free agent's resistance and is unable to make her own body shots count before another quick stinger on the jugs sends her back. Huh! Johnson leaps forward and almost head-butts the older brunette in the process and suddenly finds herself ripping cruel punches downstairs to turn the tide on the betting favorite. Aldridge responds from the back foot but her prodiction lacks the power supply and fails to interrupt Dakota's jabbing rally that keeps Lily honest on her toes. Eventually another clinch along the ropes slows the action down but this time it's the Lioness brunette who seeks it. No wonder coach Claudia Schiffer looks mighty upset during the break!
Round 4:
Lily follows through on the body and gains the early advantage while exposing Dakota to a mediocre punching resistance. That's the script from the opening round alas Johnson refuses to play spooked and blasts the model over the top which triggers a feisty dust-up much to the crowd's delight. Now it's all heading upstairs before a quick jug strike stymies Dakota who never saw it coming. Hah! Lily rallies to drill the exposed ribcage thereafter and drives the actress onto the ropes where she camps below her elbows and tries to spike her on the liver to force the knockdown. She can't quite deliver it though amid another clinching attempt but Johnson loses the grip in the dying seconds and gets WHACKED with a brutal uppercut on the chin that half-spins her against the turnbuckle. Lily tries to add more punishment but the bell halts her charge and Dakota escapes the doom even though it's all smiles now back in the Lioness corner.
Round 5:
Dakota doesn't have a fixed plan how to avoid Lily's angry rush other than to slug herself out of it - whatever happened with dominating these models through supreme mobility anyway? Tactical struggles have doomed several free agents before Ms Johnson and she gets blitzed up the middle too much to mount a successful recovery. Aldridge goes all-Decker on her cleavage and cripples her with a harpoon on the solar plexus before blasting a quick combo on each temple to drop Johnson's guard down for good. She adds a belting hook on the liver area that slumps Dakota right down so the final nail in the resistance coffin swiftly connects with the exposed jaw TO SEND JOHNSON SPAWLING DOWN THE CANVAS moments later. Huh! That was a Decker-like shot here and Dakota rolls onto her side amid loud spasms. She tries to make a recovery but only gets up on all fours when the count reaches eight and that's all she wrote, folks! KO5 Lily Aldridge!!!
AFTER: Forget the betting odds, Lily wanted to flash some elite KO skills tonight and secured a power punch destruction of a solid free agent. The battle for Lioness ligtweight supremacy lingers in the background but Lily would have to follow some of Odette Yustman's Top 10 targets if she's ever to crack that elite group going forward. Let her enjoy tonight's victory though! She hands the stunned Johnson a quick Walk of Shame and still blows her a kiss but Erin Andrews doubts these two will share a friendly drink in the bar next. Dakota looks like she wants to get outta here fast and slumps on her stool while hiding her face behind a towel. She's still got a date booked with Sophie Turner for the season-ending PPV and things are simply not going her way at all lately.
Meanwhile Lily officially calls the 2018 season a day after posting a 5-2, 5 KO record. That's more than was expected from her so coach Schiffer grades her yearly performance as A-. Given how Boxing World Magazine ranks her inside Top 20 she must have more fans around the league too! Expect even bigger things from the Santa Monica native in 2019!
