Nicole Scherzinger vs Laura Vandervoort (Lioness Club of America vs Foxfire Boxing) (28-25, 22 KO vs 35-34-2, 25 KO) Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: This blonde vs brunette rivalry was last seen back in June 2015 when Nicole Scherzinger stopped Laura Vandervoort on the Waimea Bay sands to claim the (un)official Queen of the Beach status. However both girls have enjoyed very little success since then; Nicole barely escaped the Lioness axe when Eva Mendes moved into coaching role to free up a roster spot for Nina Dobrev and Laura is simply the forgotten woman on the otherwise loaded Foxfire payroll which means she literally had to accept this old rivalry to get her revenge and perhaps regain some of the spotlight she's enjoyed back in 2012.
There's no beach setting for this Christmas PPV showdown and both girls appear a little nervous during the staredown. Nicole's struggles reached a new low when she got punched out by the unheralded Poppy Drayton last month but perhaps Laura's performance issues over the past three years will continue tonight?
Nicole Scherzinger wears a white bikini set and red gloves. Long black hair tied in a half-up ponytail. Laura Vandervoort wears a red bikini set and white gloves with a red maple leaf on each of them. Long blonde hair tied in a curled ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1: Both women engage in a quick-fire slugfest in the opening minute to rewind some tape back to their grudge battle on the Hawaiian beach. Nicole proves a little more ruthless here as she smacks the blonde's guard aside and snaps her head back repeatedly. Allthough Laura tries to respond immediately, she loses the close range exchange and is forced to back off triggering a lenghty pursuit from the raven-haired singer. Nicole simply cannot waste another opportunity following the Drayton debacle and keeps hassling the younger opponent with numerous hooks until she traps her butt-in-ropes and connects with a gut-checking drive to drop Vandervoort into a yelping earmuff.
Round 2: More of the same in the second as Nicole's aggression allows her to pick the blonde off in close range; she follows through on the body which sends Laura into retreat and the subsequent chase mirrors the action from the opening round. This time Laura shows more agility and actually matches the erstwhile dancer for pace which affects Scherzinger's execution. Most of the brunette's punches cut thin air alas Laura can't mount a proper counter-punching effort to really slow the Hawaiian down. Therefore the final minute is dominated by a lenghty clinch as Vandervoort seems happy to neutralize her rival that way and Scherzinger's unable to shake her off much to coach Eva Mendes' chagrin.
Round 3: Another quick-fire slugfest finally tips the scales into the Canadian's favor as she scythes Nicole across the mouth and connects with her cheeks with a steady jabbing drive afterwards. Nicole doesn't use her allegedly superior mobility to adjust her stance and prefers to slug the blonde out in heads-up exchange but eats a nasty hook on the jaw that wobbles her into a phone booth disaster. She bangs her head off Vandervoort's shoulder and gets spun back to the ropes where the blonde rips heavy leather assault on the exposed ribcage which drops the brunette into woeful spasms. Ugh! Nicole's punching resistance has really gone down the drain in recent months and she mirrors Laura's clinching survival from the previous round which makes coach Mendes very upset at the bell.
Round 4: Laura avoids the initial jabbing assault and ducks low to punish the singer's midsection which allows her to stagger the aching brunette on her heels in the center of the ring. She keeps piling these quick shots downstairs to the point Nicole's made look very vulnerable and every bit of her age here! Huh! BLONDE! Magazine reporter thinks that even Eva Mendes would have done a better job here but the body assault reels Scherzinger into loud spasms and drops her onto the ropes once the Canadian ups the ante and threatens to chop her in half during a dominant spell in the second minute. Nicole reverts back to the clinching safety mode but Laura shakes her off and slams a left hook on the eye before adding a chin-busting uppercut series that leaves Scherzinger slumping at the bell.
Round 5: Vandervoort roars into a jabbing drive which sets up another quick switch downstairs where she DRILLS Scherzinger's liver area and forces her into a desperate escape early in the fifth. The mid-range plan backfires quickly as the reeling brunette almost loses her balance and gets caught with a left/right combo on each temple which is followed by a nasty hook on the right eye. Ugh! Nicole develops immediate swelling since she's been hit there a few times already and now her flesh begins to tear apart too. She remains glued on her heels when the blonde rips through her leaky guard and snaps her head back several times before a blasting hook on the solar plexus FOLDS NICOLE ONTO HER KNEES!!! Ugh! That was a one-sided beating here in the fifth and the Hawaiian stunner finally couldn't keep up with it anymore. She takes it all the way until the eight count before getting up but she spits out her mouthpiece in the ref's face and can barely catch her breath. The ref asks her if she's ready to go but there's no response from the seemingly drained woman so the fight is waved OFF!!! TKO5 Laura Vandervoort!!!
AFTER: "What the hell was that??!!", Eva Mendes is furious over the shockingly straight-forward stoppage but she only gets shoved away by the Hawaiian singer who bolts from the ring to the tune of loud jeers from the disappointed audience. Her punching resistance was questionable for some time now but this was as vanilla performance as it gets. Did Nicole simply accept the PPV appearance fee and took off running? Scared much?
Meanwhile it's all smiles in the Foxfire corner where Laura V. enjoys a warm hug from Virginia Madsen and Rachel Nichols. She later tells BLONDE! Magazine: "Told ya, Nicky's no longer a gatekeeper in this league. She's a glorified tomato can now and she can't take a damn punch! How on Earth she keeps her place on that LCA roster is beyond me!"
Official result: Laura Vandervoort def. Nicole Scherzinger TKO5. |
