Olga Kurylenko vs. Emily DiDonato(Words: Fates / Results: Lookout!)
Intro:
Olga Kurylenko and Emily DiDonato may both be 5’10” models, but their paths to their final fight of 2018 share little in common. Kurlyenko’s career started in 2008, and she has fought 37 times in her past 10 years, with most of her fights early in her career, and has spent her career in stables. DiDonato debuted in 2017, and went winless in three straight matches against Serinda Swan in an Ice Hotel bout, lost in a JMDD match against Hannah Ferguson, and knocked out by Brooklyn Decker on the beach. After a year break, she beat Hannah Davis, got signed to a stable, and defeated Sophie Turner, trying to end 2018 with a 3-0 to balance out her 0-3 2017.
Olga Kurylenko is 39 years old, stands at 5’10”, and possesses a record of 16 wins, 12 of them by knockout, 20 losses, and a single draw since 2008.
Emily DiDonato is 27 years old, also stands at 5’10”, and has a record of 2 wins, both by KO, and 3 losses since 2017.
“No, I haven’t fought in a year, but I’m ready,” Kurylenko says in her pre-match interview. “There is something special about it, and some of the best fights are against those who are new. Not because they don’t know how to do anything, but because they are so passionate they give you a good fight. And I am going to bring the fight back to her tonight. I have been knocked out plenty of times in my career. I don’t want another one.”
“Well, it’s a great honor to fight Kurylenko,” DiDonato tells the press. “She’s had a long career, and while a lot of people think she can’t win, I don’t want to get caught in that trap. She beat Swift in 2016, and I personally don’t want to be unconscious to end the year. I want to win and get to a .500 record.”
Kurylenko has donned a white bikini set for the match with matching gloves, curly hair dangling around her face. DiDonato has elected for a yellow set of bikini tops and bottoms with blue gloves, hair up in a ponytail.
Round 1:
Olga Kurylenko and Emily DiDonato waste no time throwing feints at each other while circling, mostly landing in the other’s guard. For the first minute, both women size each other up and their opponent’s style and reach. Kurylenko dashes in with a quick left that DiDonato barely dodges, but immediately follows up with a right that catches Emily right in the gut, forcing the model to grimace as her arms instinctively go to try and cover her midriff. Olga notices and crushes a hook right into Emily’s jaw, rocking the brunette model as her legs wobble, and Kurylenko immediately starts pounding DiDo’s chest. Emily able to get her guard up quickly and throw counters that hit Olga, forcing the older woman to back off for the moment. The two women circle each other again, throwing punches to keep their distance until Emily tries to use Kurylenko’s move against her. DiDo lands the punch to Olga’s body, but Kurylenko snaps a jab right at Emily’s face and then pounding Emily’s body again until DiDonato clinches and the ref breaks it up seconds before the bell signals the end of the round. Kurylenko takes the round on points wide.
Round 2:
Emily clearly got a talking to in the corner as she practically jumps up to start the round, unfazed by the shots she took from Olga in the previous round. Kurylenko still trying to keep her distance early on, but DiDonato keeps on closing in on Kurylenko throwing punches that mostly get caught by Olga’s guard. Emily feints with her right and Kurylenko buys it, exposing herself to a vicious left hook, staggering Olga. Kurylenko gets her guard up but puts her body at DiDonato’s mercy, and Emily plugs leather into the older woman’s body, forcing her into the ropes, and unloads until Olga clinches and the ref comes in to break the two apart. The two women circle each other, and Kurylenko wastes no time in jabbing right at the American’s face, landing a quick one-two punch that catches DiDonato off guard, but can’t capitalize on it as Emily returns the favor immediately, nearly forcing right back into the ropes as the bell rings. Emily wins the round on points wide.
Round 3:
Both women emerge confidently from their respective corners, and immediately start circling each other. DiDonato keeps on trying to coerce Kurylenko into a corner, but gets met with a solid right every time she’s close to doing so. Olga happy to keep the young model at bay, as Emily isn’t landing much of anything other than an odd punch here and there. DiDonato tries to force the issue, but Olga glides out of range, enticing the American to come closer before punching Emily hard to the chest, forcing DiDonato to get her guard up and take a few shots before she jabs back at Olga’s chest. Kurylenko and DiDonato trade hits for the final forty-five seconds of the round. Kurylenko takes the third on points close.
Round 4:
Emily goes back to basics for the fourth, immediately jabbing at Olga before backing off far sooner than Kurylenko can effectively counter. DiDonato jabs Kurylenko twice in the body, retreats. Comes in close and puts another two to the head, drops back. Olga gets a good block up before Emily can make it three in a row and punches her once in the body and once in the mouth before DiDonato strikes back. Kurylenko backs off and chases after Emily, trying to get her into the ropes, but the model escapes before Olga can close off any escape. DiDonato lands another punch straight to Kurylenko’s face before the two start circling each other again, trying to feel out when to strike their opponent as the bell dings to end the round. Emily takes the fourth on points close.
Round 5:
Kurylenko and DiDonato start the round by circling each other, and Emily tries to keep up her rhythm from the previous round. Dart in, land a pair of hits to Olga’s body, back off and circle. Dart in again, get a hook in on Kurylenko’s chin, get out again. Olga tries to switch it up after the first minute, throwing a jab of her own. Emily dodges, and hangs back. Kurylenko throws a second jab and Emily clobbers Olga with a right hook to the jaw, and Kurylenko is stunned! DiDonato slams another two hooks home as Kurylenko tries to get her arms up to protect herself, but she’s not able to get her guard up before Emily connects with all of a nasty uppercut to Olga’s chin and Kurylenko just falls onto her back motionless. DiDonato swiftly to a neutral corner as the ref takes a single look, removes Kurylenko’s mouthguard from her unmoving body, and calls for the bell. Your winner by KO5, Emily DiDonato!
After:
Once she gets her gloves off, Emily gets on the turnbuckle and waves to the crowd, smiling, enjoying the moment and the end of a 3-0 year after an awful 2017 debut. Once Kurylenko is moving again, she goes over to her opponent, briefly embracing before heading out of the ring.
“I’m ecstatic that I won. Olga has a lot of fight in her, and she fought well.” DiDonato says in her post-fight interview. “I’m just thankful to end the year on a good note, and I’m looking forward to fighting more next year.”
“DiDonato fought well and she won,” Kurylenko tells the press. “At the end of the day, that’s what matters, and she has many future fights to look forward to.” |
