BEFORE:
"Am I surprised it took more than a year for me to get another fight," asks Arielle. "Not at ALL. After I showed my boxing skills last year, I knew nobody would be lining up to give me a chance. But. This girl HAS. And, she's going to regret it."
"SOMEbody is going to regret getting into the ring tonight," says a hard-eyed Hunter. "It will NOT be me."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's..."
McCarthy: "Just HORRIBLE. Another assault on my OLFACTION!"
O'Dell (sighing): "That's 'Howling at Nothing' by Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, and, once again, that song is from the soundtrack of 'Midnight, Texas', and here comes the star of that show, the lovely Arielle Kebbel!"
Tess: "And, Kebbel isn't wrong about the fact that she showed an ability to box and box well the last time she was here."
O'Dell: "Arielle bouncing down the aisle, all smiles. She climbs into the ring and is helped off with the robe, and there's that taffy-colored bikini we saw the last time...and, that's 'Shake It Out', by Florence and the Machine pounding through the arena, and that can only mean that 'The Ventura County Volcano', Hunter King is on her way to the ring!"
McCarthy: "And, that REMAINS a STUPID nickname!"
Cassie: "King's had a very good start at Front Street, but she's still sitting behind THREE other Front Street bantams in the most recent rankings, so, she's definitely going to want to take care of business tonight."
O'Dell: "Hunter into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that aqua number we've seen before, and the fans showing plenty of appreciation..."
McCarthy: "If I go up there, they'll go INSANE..."
O'Dell (sighing): "And, the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Hunter. Mac?"
McCarthy: "I smell an upset! Kebbel!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Another split panel, but, at least that means SOMEone's going to be right. And we start with Kebbel on the move, and that's no surprise, since this is exactly what we saw the last time she was here. Arielle's shown she can box, and there was little doubt that would be her plan here."
Cassie: "King, meanwhile, more of a two-way fighter, and, at the moment, she's looking to box with."
O'Dell: "And, that's not exactly working all that well, because Kebbel's the one getting to spots, getting off, and getting gone before King can do much about it. Younger blonde not getting much done at the moment, landing here and there, but not putting punches together, unlike Kebbel."
Tess: "No question, Arielle's gotten going quickly."
O'Dell: "And, she's keeping going as we head down the stretch. She's a step ahead of the younger woman and has been the entire round. Hunter trying to get to spots where she can get some leather on, but not succeeding in doing so. Five seconds remaining. One last combination from Kebbel and there's the bell. Arielle. Wide."
McCarthy: "And, Kebbel takes the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with a more aggressive Hunter King. Younger blonde wants to work forward. She's no longer content to box at range. Kebbel continuing to circle and jab, wants to continue what worked in the first. King closing behind the left, works some body, backs Arielle up..."
Cassie: "Arielle right back on the move."
O'Dell: "Indeed, she is. She's going to keep legging, slipping to her spots, getting off, and getting moving, challenging King to run her to ground. Hunter able to do that again, lands a NICE one-two, but Kebbel again slips away. Got to like the fight plan for Arielle, Mac, but a nice adjustment from King..."
McCarthy: "Definitely thought THAT up on her own, because she's getting no help from Jewel or Campbell, who know NOTHING..."
Tess: "Except, in BOTH cases, how to beat YOU..."
McCarthy: "I. WAS. ROBBED!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Twenty-five seconds left in the second. Competitive round as both ladies get some but not all of what they want. King stepping to, landing a nice combination, Arielle slips away, jabs, circles, stops, pops, landed a good right hand in there. And, there's the bell. Close. King."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third begins like the second ended, with King working forward and Kebbel continuing to move. Arielle giving a little ground with a drop step now and it's making a difference. Older blonde able to maintain the range she wants, land in combination, all while not allowing Hunter to get to her spots."
McCarthy: "Not a big adjustment, but, as you said, Jenny, making a big difference."
O'Dell: "Most certainly is. Kebbel again has that free movement she had in the first, and the result is exactly what we got in the first, Arielle in command. She's choosing her ground, landing in combination, all while frustrating the younger woman's attempts to get anything going offensively."
Tess: "Kebbel showing that what she was able to do in her first FCBA fight was no fluke."
O'Dell: "No doubt about that. Twenty seconds to go in what's been an excellent third round for the indie beauty. Kebbel circling, jabbing, stopping, popping, slipping away before Hunter can counter. King has to be frustrated at this point, but, to her credit, she continues to work hard right to the bell. Arielle. Wide."
Cassie: "And, Kebbel is back on top 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins with King doing the adjusting. Hunter looking to cut the ring now, force some heavy exchanges and she's getting that done. Firefight right there! Big trade of hard shot and King got the better of it. Kebbel slips away to open canvas, but Hunter right back after her aggressively..."
McCarthy: "Dangerous game King's playing..."
O'Dell: "It is, but she's staying sound, using the left, working the feet. Nothing sloppy about it. ANOTHER big exchange there, and both fighters landed some hard shot before, again, Kebbel slipped away. King crowding, pressuring, looking a lot like another Front Street bantam we saw earlier tonight..."
Cassie: "Not working as much body as Dennings, though."
O'Dell: "True enough, but she's definitely fighting more of a pressure style now, and it's working for her. Still a close round, as Kebbel's giving almost as much as she gets in those exchanges, and she's still scoring some in the open, but, as the bell rings, it's going to be King's round close."
Tess: "And, we're even again at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Same again in the fifth. King playing pressure fighter as Kebbel works those long legs and that long left jab looking for space to box. Hunter remaining sound. Keeping the hands up and the feet and head moving, getting punches out and back quickly. Arielle, meanwhile, VERY smooth on the move..."
Tess: "Again, you have to be impressed with this girl's skills and athleticism. Give her regular work, and she could be a good fighter."
O'Dell: "King steps to and there's a SHARP exchange and it's HUNTER who covers up at the end of that one as Arielle circles away. Kebbel jabbing, circling, stopping, popping, slipping away from King, but Hunter right back at her, digging some body inside. Kebbel ties, slips away..."
Cassie: "Round's pretty close right now, Jenny..."
O'Dell: "Most certainly is. Points in the balance in the final thirty seconds. King again digging some body as she closes. Kebbel quickly extricates herself and gets back to open canvas. She circles, jabs, reverses, reverses again, and will leg away the final seconds of the stanza. Close, but Kebbel."
McCarthy: "And, Arielle's up 48-47 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Second half begins the way the first half ended. Pattern set now. Kebbel wants space, King wants to deny it to her, and whichever fighter's able to execute their plan is going to be the one with her hand raised when this thing is over. Have no doubt about that with as close as this is."
McCarthy: "Kebbel's fighting like Mac The Knife right now. And, that's why she's ahead."
O'Dell: "King stepping to, working some body. Arielle tying up and GETTING ROCKED WITH A SHORT LEFT HOOK! Kebbel looking to slip away there, but Hunter caught her with a NASTY left and Arielle's in trouble! King letting the hands go, battering the older blonde back into the ropes..."
Cassie: "If there were more time in this round..."
O'Dell: "Only twenty seconds left, but Hunter going to use them to do as much damage as she can. Kebbel hanging on in a high guard as King goes to TOWN, throwing everything she has at the wobbly blonde. Ten seconds left. GOOD right hand from Hunter. Ref looking in closely, but there's the bell. King. Wide."
Tess: "And we're even at 57."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "King looking to finish as we start the seventh. Hunter coming forward, making with the heavy leather. She's sitting down on her punches, backing up Arielle. Kebbel on the defensive. She clearly doesn't have the legs back under her at the moment and the younger blonde's taking advantage..."
McCarthy: "Just needs to run clock here, which is what she's doing."
O'Dell: "King backing her rival up with a hard flurry. Arielle covering up. Hunter steps to, works some body, forces her rival back with another combination. Arielle tying up and GETS ROCKED! King with a short left hook that hurt Kebbel! Hunter letting the hands go and DOWN GOES ARIELLE!"
Tess: "Straight right did the damage!"
O'Dell: "Kebbel dropped to her back by that right hand. Hunter quickly to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Kebbel rolls to her right side at six. Seven. Arielle to her belly at eight. Not going to happen. Nine. TEN! Kebbel still down on her belly as the count passes her by and it's OVER! And your winner by KO7 is 'The Ventura County Volcano', Hunter King!"
Cassie: "Good fight and a good finish by Hunter."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Hunter King, and, Hunter, that was a good fight in there..."
Hunter (nodding): "No question. She's a girl who can box and run up points. You get to the cards, you might not like what happens."
Tess: "So, you made sure you didn't get there..."
Hunter (nodding): "Yeah. When I hurt her, I wanted to make sure I finished. That's what the last round was all about for me. Because, like I said, I wasn't taking any chances with the cards."
