Demi Lovato vs. Minka Kelly
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

"She's sturdy and she hits hard," Minka admits with a figurative shrug of the shoulders, "But, I've fought harder hitting girls and beaten them. I can handle what she brings to the table."

"Minka," says a hard-eyed Demi, "Is about to bite off a LOT more than she can chew."

ROUND ONE:

Kelly not shy about going after the shorter woman. Minka likes to step to behind that jab, and that's exactly what she does to start this one. Demi all about holding ground, though. She's not going to be backed up and, less than a minute in, they are throwing bom...BOOM! Right hand Minka and Demi is HURT! Lovato's legs do a shimmy and she immediately covers up and Kelly is ALL IN. Minka throwing everything but the proverbial kitchen sink at a reeling Lovato. Demi giving ground, wobbled again by a left hook. Again, she stays on her feet, but she's listing badly as she is forced to the ropes. Kelly starts digging body, trying to bring down the guard, then goes back upstairs for a SCINTILLATING combination to the head that puts the ref on high alert. But. BELL. And, none too soon for the younger woman. The first is over. And Minka's got it wide.

ROUND TWO:

Minka rolling early in the second. She's backing up a still-wobbly Demi with hard shots to the head. Lovato slowly firming up as the round goes on. By the mid-point, she's able to hold ground and then she DIGS a vicious hook into Kelly's midsection and MINKA IS HURT TO THE BODY. Kelly gasps and nearly doubles up and Lovato GOES TO TOWN. Demi letting the hands go, buffeting Minka around the ring with hard, accurate leather. Kelly backed to the ropes and Demi goes body in a big, big way. Minka crouching, holding the elbows tight, trying to protect that midsection, allowing Lovato to bang hooks behind her gloves. Eventually, the older woman begins clinching, and she does this effectively enough to slow the singer and ride out the round, but Lovato's overcome the early stagger and grabbed the points to even things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Now it's Demi rolling early. She's stepping to Kelly, committing on everything, forcing her to retreat. Minka trying to stabilize her front, but can't get it done. Demi slipping in body punches every chance she gets, really working that damaged chassis. Minka tying up in spots, banging back in others, but, she's mostly on the defensive and mostly taking to both head and body. Older brunette is game, but taking a licking as the singer's getting off lusty for the first two minutes plus. Finally, late in the round, Kelly begins firming up. She's able to hold canvas and fire back. Demi responds by crowding her, working as much body as she possibly can. Last thirty seconds are fought at close quarters, with both brunettes working mostly downstairs. At the bell, it's Demi and wide, and Lovato leads 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Demi keeps up the pressure. She's crowding Minka, working body, forcing the taller brunette to fight in the phone booth. Kelly getting the worst of it early, but, as the round goes on, she begins holding her own. She's hooking Demi's flanks, ripping short hooks into her belly, using hooks and uppercuts upstairs. It's good, two way stuff in there, with both fighters showing plenty of defense as well, blocking, slipping, catching punches with the arms and the shoulders. Down the stretch, there's more clinching, but still plenty of hard shot landing, including a nice short uppie from Lovato that backs Kelly up a step. Minka shakes it off, though, and works out the fourth in close quarters, giving as good as she gets. Early advantage plays for Lovato, though. At the bell, she's won it close and extended her lead to 39-37.

ROUND FIVE:

Right back in close. Lovato forcing the issue, crowding Kelly, working that chassis. Minka firing back in kind, landing hard shot to both head and body. It's not quite a brawl in there, since, again, both fighters are playing good defense, but there's plenty of heavy leather thumping hom...BOOM! Short right hook from Minka and DOWN GOES DEMI! Lovato dropped to all fours by a BRUTAL hook from the older brunette. Minka to a neutral corner. Ref begins counting over Demi. Lovato shaking it off in time to get to her feet at eight. She takes the mandatory and ON COMES MINKA! Kelly BLITZING Demi, hammering her back into the ropes and giving her a thorough going over. Younger woman hanging on in a high guard as the referee looks in closely. He's on a hair-trigger, but Demi does enough to keep him at bay to the bell. When it rings, it's Minka, 10-8 and Kelly's evened things at 47.

ROUND SIX:

Minka rampant. Demi's still buzzed and Kelly knows it. And, the veteran is determined to finish, and, failing that, to at least effect a complete and thorough clean up. That begins in the opening seconds, with Minka on her terms, walking forward behind the jab, backing Lovato up with hard follow-on right hands. Demi countering in spots, but that's all she can manage, as Kelly establishes full control. Minka committing on everything, reefing hard shot at the younger woman, punishing her to both head and body. Lovato ends up backed to the ropes in the final thirty seconds, and things get even worse. Minka goes to TOWN, reefing flurry after flurry at the singer as Lovato hangs on in a tight guard. At the bell, it's Minka wide and Kelly pulls in front 57-56.

ROUND SEVEN:

Kelly keeps coming and Demi continues giving ground. Lovato unable to stabilize her front in the face of Minka's continues onslaught. Singer trying desperately to hold canvas, but unable to do it. Instead, Kelly backs her up again and again with hard shot, taking territory at will. Lovato game, but clearly getting the worst of it. She's firing back when she can, but spending way too much time covering up as Minka gets off lusty. BOOM! Short right hook and MINKA'S HURT TO THE BODY AGAIN! Lovato buries one just below the rib cage and doubles over the older brunette. Lovato goes right to work, backing up Kelly with hard shot to the head before DROPPING HER TO ALL FOURS with another NASTY shot to the chassis! Demi quickly to a neutral corner. Kelly on her knees, left hand on the canvas, right cradling her belly as the referee begins the count. At six, she attempts to rise but crumples to the canvas, where she remains, both hands around her midsection now as the count passes her by. It's OVER! And your winner by KO7 is Demi Lovato!

AFTER:

Demi looking quite a sight in the post-fight. Lumped up with blood still trickling from a cut above the left eye, but she manages a smile. "Heck of a fight," she admits. "She can hit, no doubt about it, but, I knew coming in that I was sturdier and if I could get to her body, I could make it quit. It took awhile, but that's what I did."
