Odette Yustman vs Taylor Cole
(Lioness Club of America vs The Fighting Academy)
(39-21-1, 32 KO vs 41-40-2, 32 KO)
Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago

BEFORE: This is a classic battle between two perenially underrated elite talents even though Taylor Cole's comeback against Miranda Kerr ended in a rough KO defeat earlier this year. Meanwhile Odette continues to struggle for proper exposure in a very crowded division but remains a Top 10 talent regardless of being dismissed as the 'quiet girl' on the Lioness Club roster. She prefers to have her gloves do all the talking and that's not a popular route to emerge as an everyday contender.

Odette Yustman wears a light blue bikini set & black gloves. Long black hair tied in a high ponytail. Taylor Cole wears a red bikini set & silver gloves. Long black hair tied in a curled ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.

Round 1:
Taylor tries to use her power-oriented style from the opening bell but has Odette bouncing around on her toes in a smart counter-plan the older brunette struggles to embrace. Not many strikes find the target and Cole looks a little too desperate in execution while Yustman sticks to her effective ideas which might not sit well with some of the fans but have worked in her favor over the years. Taylor realizes she's being made look silly here and settles down into a mid-range heave before Odette triggers a rare punch-happy attack in the final minute and nails the oder woman a couple of times on the chin; she then adds a belting hook on the ribcage and has Cole gasping for air at the bell.

Round 2:
More aggression from Cole in the early stages but Odette gets caught out by a couple of nasty hooks in there and struggles to use her mobility like she did in the opener. This opens some holes that Taylor finds suitable for a steady head-hunting attack alas Yustman finds the quick feet to avoid getting swamped into a trap wholesale. She clips Taylor's temples in a back & forth exchange but the proper power supply remains missing and one must wonder whether Cole is still struggling with her fitness as she doesn't carry her weight around enough to really punish the smaller opponent physically.

Round 3:
More of the same in the third, Taylor lands more punches but lacks the outright power and has Odette looping a promising response as both women get sucked into a mid-range dispute that slowly but surely intensifies as the time passes by. Taylor is glued into the head-hunting plan but Odette dances around and underneath the majority of the attacks before dropping low to the fellow brunette's body to shut her down along the ropes come the final minute. The struggle becomes messy but Odette keeps plugging more leather into Taylor's ribcage and spins her against the turnbuckle when she delivers a brutal uppercut right at the bell.

Round 4:
Taylor tries to move a little quicker now but she just can't match Odette's pace and gets carried away too much in her aggressive routes so the Lioness brunette counters her repeatedly from mid-distance. Cole barks in anger when she bounces off the forearms one time too many but eats another scything cross on the jaw and tails off on the spot while Odette drills her midriff and wobbles on the heels in the process. Taylor can't find her range at all and gets bumped into the ropes where Yustman beats her for pace again and slams a left/right combo on the nose that makes the older woman gurgle in pain. Ugh! Taylor wobbles into a crushing uppercut on the jaw moments later and almost goes down on the spot only for the bell to rescue her pride a split second later!

Round 5:
Yustman takes full advantage of Cole's leaky high guard early in the fifth and thumps her up the middle before dropping the mighty harpoon on the exposed liver area when Taylor couldn't stay off her heels. Ugh! She bends forward with a loud yelp only to find Yustman's right hook tearing a bloody patch across the nose and sending her into shimmy shake mode. Her feet remain well behind her so she just can't adjust when Odette SLAMS a drilling hook on the mouth that sends the gumshield flying off into the stands! AND DOWN GOES COLE!!! She crashes on her left side with eyes closed and fails to stay off the boards when the count reaches ten! KO5 Odette Yustman!!!

AFTER: That was too easy for Odette which begs the question what is going on with Taylor Cole right now? Has she reached the Jessica Alba fallen cometh status already? Second fight back in 2019 and she gets knocked out of her senses again! This could spell the end of her contenders' career! Meanwhile Odette keeps it strictly business post-fight and barely ackonwledges her success when talking to Tess Valmore: "Look, I still have a long way to go! Too many random names make all the buzz so why should I bother calling them out? It's not like anyone other than Mary Elizabeth or Vonnie actually matter! They will flame out in like four months while I'm gonna occupy that Top 10 spot until the day I decide to hang 'em up!" (laughs).

Official result: Odette Yustman def. Taylor Cole KO5.
