Gemma Atkinson vs. Ana Beatriz Barros
Gemma Atkinson: 34 years old, 5’9”, 19-25 with 17 KO since 2008, Beever’s Babes
Ana Beatriz Barros: 37 years old, 5’11”, 1-2 with 1 KO since 2019, Fates
Before:
Both of these women desperately need wins. Atkinson has gone a combined 2-7 in 2018 and 2019 and Barros got her lone win over the winless Erin Heatherton. One of them will walk out with a win tonight and hopefully start a string of successes, although how much more these two women have left in the tank for fighting is anyone’s guess.
Neither woman is particularly talkative to the press. Atkinson notes Barros’ win came against Heatherton and Barros notes that Atkinson is two of her last nine.
Atkinson dressed in a green top with matching trunks and gloves, her hair up in a braid. Barros is dressed in a red sports bra with matching spandex bottoms and white gloves, her hair in a bun.
The two women stare at each other as the bell goes off and the fight begins.
Round 1:
Ana Beatriz goes for the obvious opening of jabbing at Gemma from distance and abusing her two inch height advantage. The Brazilian lands some solid punches early on, but Atkinson is more experienced and naturally works her way into closer range and starts connecting with shots to Barros’ breasts and belly. A slight look of discomfort makes its way onto Ana Beatriz’s face as she takes the punishment to her body, although she strikes back at Atkinson and makes good contact, forcing the Brit to change her strategy. The two women go to circling at the end of the second minute, but this time Atkinson keeps away from Barros and forcing Ana to approach close enough to get struck back. Several trades happen in the third with Atkinson making better contact overall as the bell dings to end the round. Atkinson takes the opening round by points, close.
Round 2:
Barros again opens by jabbing at Atkinson and lands several punches on the busty Brit, but Atkinson trades back fairly evenly. Gemma then closes the gap and lines up a pair of punches into Barros’ body but the Brazilian connects with an absolutely massive punch right to Gemma’s mouth and Gemma reels backwards as Ana Beatriz goes on the offensive. Barros slinging lefts and rights at Gemma as the younger woman gets her guard up and Barros targets the body, driving her hands into Gemma’s tummy and pushing her back into the ropes where she lays on the hurt. Atkinson clinches, but by the time the two women are separated, Atkinson’s belly is red from the Brazilian’s beating. Atkinson tries to fight back but Barros keeps on laying on the punishment until the Brit is forced to keep her distance for the remainder of the round. At the bell, Barros goes back to her corner smiling, taking the second on points, wide.
Round 3:
The third round begins with the two women circling each other, jabbing at each other from a distance. Barros takes advantage of her extra reach early, tagging Atkinson’s head with some jabs. Atkinson quickly adjusts though and closes the distance between herself and Barros and starts targeting the body of the older model. Gemma pounds Ana Beatriz’s body as she closes the distance and Barros counterpunches, trying to fend off the Brit. Barros connects with a solid left into the smaller model’s body and Atkinson backs off to avoid further offense from the Brazilian. The two women begin to circle again, but this time Gemma plays with her distance from Ana Beatriz, forcing Barros to react to Gemma’s moves. Atkinson lands a solid trio of punches in the final minute, but Barros answers back. The bell rings and Atkinson takes the round on points, close.
Round 4:
The two women open the fourth by circling again and Barros is keen to keep Atkinson at a comfortable striking distance. Atkinson tries to close the distance between the two women but is met with a solid jab right to the nose from Barros and Atkinson is forced backwards. Ana Beatriz follows up to the Brit’s belly, punishing her opponent’s body, but the more experienced Gemma counterpunches back quite nicely, going after the Brazilian’s breasts and belly. Ana Beatriz drops back a few steps before setting her feet and smashing a left across Gemma’s chin. Now it’s Atkinson who gives up ground and Barros pursues her around the ring until Atkinson lands some solid punches on the older model to discourage her from pursuing too aggressively. The bell rings and Ana Beatriz wins the round on points, close.
Round 5:
Barros emerges confidently from her corner to start the fifth and immediately starts throwing out jabs that connect with Atkinson. Gemma tries to counterpunch but Barros whacks a solid one-two across the Brit’s chin and Atkinson retreats. Ana Beatriz quickly goes after Gemma and dodges out of the way and plugs leather into the younger woman’s belly, drawing out a groan from Gemma. Atkinson lunges to try and drive the Brazilian away but Barros crashes a hook into Atkinson’s jaw and drives a right into her solar plexus AND ATKINSON GOES DOWN! Barros quickly to a neutral corner as the ref begins counting over a moaning Atkinson. Gemma rolls around on the canvas, trying to get herself in a position to get up, but the ref is already at six. By seven, she has her arms underneath her. At eight, she tries to push herself up BUT COLLAPSES BACK TO THE MAT! The ref counts to ten and calls for the bell, it’s over. Your winner by KO5, Ana Beatriz Barros!
After:
Barros ecstatic as she is declared the victor, raising her arms up into the air while strutting around the ring. After parading around for a bit, Barros goes over to Atkinson to check in on her. The two embrace before going their separate ways.
“Gemma fought really well, but I’m finally getting comfortable, and once that happens, nobody can stop me.” Barros emphatically tells the press. “On to the next one – and I’ll put whoever she is on her back too.”
“Brazilian got lucky, and she’s already on borrowed time,” Atkinson whines in her post-fight. “Mark my words, she’d be lucky to get another couple of wins this year.” |
